I saw the race live on TV and will always remember that announcement coming on screen and the sinking feeling that followed it. A future MotoGP champ lost far too young. Those are the dangers of motorsport and at least he died doing what he loved.
I wasn't able to see this on TV. I saw the crash and everything but it suddenly ended because the channel was following a schedule. I then checked the internet and saw "Marco Simoncelli" trending on Twitter and it showed that he just died. R.I.P. Marco #58
Ciao Supersic. Btw, remarkable gentlemen nature of rest of the riders to agree to race cancellation when officials went to each team's garage & explained all riders of the decision before they officially announced it on screen. I dont quite know the complete FIM MotoGP rules for such outcomes, but my respect for this sport just increased upon seeing it on screen. These bikes are dangerous machines and everyone who rides a gp-bike is a hero, but dont want anyone to go away like him. R.I.P. Marco.
Thanks for not putting up the crash itself. Those other dickheads disgracing his memory by showing it to the masses. RIP SuperSic, you were brilliant.
Marco tried to let the bike go but his right foot got stuck underneath the bike which pushed him towards Rossi and Edwards who risked his life with a 100% brake that throwed him over the bike Rossi just tried to survive can't blame him different instincts from both drivers.
If only the bike does not regained traction and shot him to where colin edwards and rossi is, he would have hit the gravel and survived the horror death
first wheldon then simoncelli unreal tradgedy two young and talented guys at their peak you would have to go back to th 1994 san marino grand prix to find motorsport tradgedy on this scale . :(
if you guys see alvaro bautista's onboard camera, ... Super Sic appeared to be sliding off the track....but how in the world did those tires regain traction all of a sudden and make him come back on track?....damn you bridgestones!
@kay9unit It's not the tires fault. His knee was on the ground going around the corner, and as he was coming out of the corner he couldn't get back upright so the bike kept turning, going into the path of Edwards & Rossi. His father said if he had of let go of the bike he might have survived.
@kay9unit No one really knows. It seems that the bike wanted to stand back up (as if to do a high side) but regained some traction and shot him to the inside of the corner vs going off the track to the outside (where he would have almost certainly survived). Damn that spirit to try and save every slide or out of control time.
Was standing amongst the crowd 2 weeks earlier at Phillip Island when he came second to Casey, was devastated..... RIP Marco
