  • Wonderful..... from the Netherlands

  • @Hanssoppie Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.

  • I never knew they renumbered the 3985 and put those things beside her face once.

  • Comment removed

  • that is cool!

  • Also they should have brought out the other challenger that is in a museum. I forget the number but it is a grey hound with smoke deflectors

  • that must have been fun for you guys

  • love the video.................could do without the music tho

  • @kdredman844 Try turning the volume down, people with a lack of appreciation for fine music fiknd that that helps.

  • It just brings tears to my eyes when I see a video of my favorite love story.

  • Hey, there's a Gremlin among the chase cars!

  • Ah sure do reckon we got us a convoy....

  • its like those old western movies, only in color

  • Since I saw you had video from 1953, do you have footage of the 1953 3967 trip?????

  • No, we didn't live in Colorado then, just visiting.

  • No, sorry, the 3967 was scrapped out many years ago. That's actually the 3985 made over as the 3967 for this particular event, a reenactment of the RMRC's first excursion which was powered by the real 3967.

  • Last I heard it was in for a major overhaul. Last time I saw it was on the doubleheader in 2005 when they had to take it off the train due to hot bearings. I should check on that.

  • My (just turned) 8 year old and I loved the video. Thanks so much! He just received a 3967 AHM Challenger (HO) for his b'day and we needed to experience the real thing! You done

    good!

  • who cares if the earth temp rises a degree lol bring steam back.we got enough coal for 3 hundred years any way

  • The last place where the train was filmed at was the place where the challengers, big boys & northerns all would fill up with water on the climb over sherman hill. The water tank still survives but the water spout & coal tower are now gone.

  • could do without the harmonica

  • You totally missed the point. Its about the harmonica. I just put those choo-choo train movies in there to provide visual interest and fill the void (;-)).

  • right! hurts my ears.

  • Fantastic video. There's nothing like a steam locomotive going flat out.

  • This is a great video. I had no idea UP did this. I've seen pictures of Challengers with elephant ears but never seen one in operation till now.

I wonder if they used 844's "ears" of if they had some in the shop in Cheyenne fit for a Challenger.

    Thanks for posting!

  • It can't be the 844's ears because they have a different shape

  • Amazing video, never seen a steam locomotive in person sadly.
