@ENDtheFED2012 Your average is probably somewhere around 145. IQ is a stable characteristic that does not differentiate with age. It's the potential of a person. Probably just different versions gave you different answers.

Intelligence is not just a measure of how much knowledge you possess. It's a measure of how efficiently your brain works. People with higher IQs require less brain activity to solve problems. For example, can you solve a math problem quicker than others? Can you do complex math in your head? Can you learn foreign languages quicker than others? Can you solve a chess problem quicker than others? And, so on...

What's more interesting is why that is though, why does it take one person a lot longer than another to solve a problem- some people never solve the problem, they simply lack the analytical equipment to do so

Perhaps it is just a simple matter of how fast a person's brain can make connections.

@theporksicle - Yes. Their brains have more neural pathways for faster connections. You can train yourself to increase your intelligence by forcing yourself to do what you normally don't do. For example, if you always brush your teeth with your right hand, do it with the left. This will force your brain to build new neural pathways. Learning a foreign language will do the same (and also a defense against Alzheimer's).

@kamariegrosz In my teens I took a job in Italy which posted me to Africa. Until this time I 'assumed' for some reason that although some people were poor at analytical tasks that this was just lazyness or they had no interest.

But Ghana was an eye opener. Most of the people I talked to (probably 90%) were a disaster at anything where they were required to reason or calculate things.

Later on in my 30's I wasn't surprised to find that Ghana has a national IQ level of just 71 percentile!

@sman1592 I suppose after reading that you could hypothesise that the reverse is also true... if one can train memory and improve intelligence through training...then refusing to do so entirely would lower memory and intelligence.

If that were true then it wouldn't be great news for people who have ideologies which makes them 'fear' learning.

Anyway I suppose it would be an unstable world if everyone was really bright.... so we are better off with a bell curve rather than a plateau!

@GunzFTW99 the point of IQ testes is to indicate how fast your brain is, higher IQ does not necessarily mean filled with knowledge! you may get the "uh..dunno" and other stupid responses but when it comes to solving problems he may put you to shame!

@Dirtfire You just have bad problem solving skills, and no. You can't tell how smart someone is by how they write. Perhaps how studious they are. For example, someone with an IQ of 75 could write in perfect, sophisticated grammar and have great writing flow. Then, someone who lives in the hood, could have an IQ of 160. Just they have no idea what the hell proper grammar is. Plus, IQ tests can't FULLY test you. There are to many aspects of intelligence for a 5 hours test to calculate. Don't fret.

I have a question anyone can answer. If IQ is a measure of intelligence why is that so many people with high IQs work collecting garbage, work at minium wage jobs. While some people with low IQs become doctors and lawyers. Not all people with college degrees and advance degrees have high IQs. How is an IQ test a measure of intelligence.

Intelligence isn't everything...There are some other factors such as studying hard to succeed and having luck sometimes....Being smart is something very important, but you will never accomplish something unique with just being smart and do nothing more. Hard work is everything. That's why you often see successful people with just an average IQ.

yup just like beret said , a friend had an uncle who didnt know english only spanish and he learned by himself at age of 3 english just by reading books, but he never did anything he was just to lazy and his wife supports him while he just stays sitting...it just inst being smart it's hard work

Society doesn't work on the basis of intelligent people because there are more average IQ people than Geniuses. We tend to subconsciously side with people of similar intelligence as to banish those with exceptionally high, and low IQs out of the "group". That is why the "outcasts" are usually of high intelligence or low intelligence. Those people are a threat to the wellbeing and prosperity of the "average" majority. That is why presidents need to act less smart than they really are.

My IQ is not 150 but im saying that if i would have scored that high iq i wouldn't write it on youtube where your score doesnt really matter much cuz of all little kids who want to show off.But maybe your score is 150 i dont really care any more.If you want to know I tested my iq on several tests and got defferent result but mine is around 130.But these internet tests are not that precise.I read somewhere that real iq is a few points lower.

Update: I payed a trip to a local psychologist and was administered an IQ test. I scored a 170. The reason is probably because I have been taking IQ tests for adults. Q.E.D. .

I took International High IQ societies test as well.

I scored 142 IQ and was in the top 2 percentile according to the result and subsequently could be a member.

Now, they want me to pay $75 which leads me to believe that it might be bogus.

I mean , wow I am almost a genius according to them so why not pay money to show how smart I am.
