And by the way, if that indeed is the Zerg logo then they stole that from Blue Bytes' Battle Isle, because that is the Scay'Ger's logo.

And Terran is a demonym used for humans in many titles: W40K, Starship troopers, Wing commander, Star Command, Starfire and the list goes on.

Also, I've never played MAG, but looking it up I see it seems to consist of game modes and thus rounds and instanced combat (Planetside has none of those). It also sounds like it has forced leadership/squadding?

@TechHarv The only console you have a hope of hell in finding this on will be the Playstation 4, but even that's purely speculation. Fortunately they're aiming to have this play on 4-5 year old machines, so even a budget PC when this is released should be able to play it just fine (I'm thinking a rig with AMD's upcoming Trinity APUs.)

Remember how PS1 suffered when they stopped fodderside? :P I really enjoyed having all the level 6's running around with occaisonal 25's. Really fleshed out the combat.

PS ran very strong for many years, unlike most other MMO's. There is no reason to assume that a freemium model will keep PS2 running for longer then PS1.

@thisisnotanick To be honest freemium has evolved a lot, I remember when I started playing mmos f2p was a dirty word, but now devs and publishers are working out how to make it much more appealing, times are changing and I think the subscription mmo's days are numbered. With GW2 about to show what can be done with only box price and various mmos delivering AAA content with a non-intrusive microtransation system, the landscape is very different from a few years ago.

@BroceRee Well they've promised not to sell power, because the second microtransactions were mentioned the entire remnants of Planetside's playerbase yelled "NO POWER"...but even if they were to break their promise, Planetside is an FPS. It's not gear-based enough for a slightly better gun to be able to effect the outcome much.

It's suicide to sell power in a western cash shop, so they don't, and it works very well.

@Isundir Say what? There were three factions in the original Planetside, as well as other games like DAoC. It's only with the rise of WoW that every MMO degenerated into two factions (three generally works better so long as the population isn't fatally low).

@xVancha Indeed 2 factions is ok for lazy devs on a pve game, in a pvp game you NEED more than 2 factions or the game dies quickly, neocron for example a almost all pvp MMO had about 12 factions all allied / neutral / enemy to each other.

The funny thing is, it doesn't play like any of the games being mentioned (Halo, Brink, Starcraft, Tabula Rasa). The closest thing it comes to is probably Battlefield, but with a hell of a lot more depth and on a much, much larger scale.

GW2 and The Secret World look to be departing from the typical mold slightly, but they've dented boundaries rather than breaking them.

Nah, that doesn't even fit as well as the halo comparisons. The NC and Zerg certainly have nothing in common and while the protoss and VS may both be technologically advanced and use "energy weapons", that's where the similarities end.
