  • You Tube will not let me link to the Facebook shot of NW6, with at least one greaser hair style, and not in costumes.

It is on the Chicago 60s band site.

  • NEVER BE LONELY is one of my all-time favorite songs. I wish you guys would sing it at Bob Stroud's parties. Maybe if you'd sing it, there would be some interest in it. "Never be lonely, there's always someone waiting for you." Words to live by!

  • Bill seemed so calm in some other videos.I love to watch him move, and he looks so cute when he shakes his hair!

  • the NC6 are timeless, introduced my kids to them sometime ago and are big fans also, shows true talent never goes out of style, keep at it Ray

  • Great work , they were in an era where you had to be good , no phonies like today, rap and other useless garbage

  • Last time I saw these guys was back at the old band shell in front of the Field Museum. They did Mr Your a Better Man than I and it was very psychedelic and awesome.

  • Glad to see these guys still can put on a performance....wow!

  • Wow. This group is up there with the Moody Blues in terms of getting better with age.

I mean, literally better! Ya'll rock.

I still have all my pinkish 45's, too!

  • Ray, I've enjoyed the NC6 at all of the Rock N Roll Roots parties at Borders for years. You guys are really good. I've wanted to ask you a question--why isn't Never Be Lonely on any of your compilation CDs? I love that song.

  • Good question - may well be one of licensing. Since it took Bob Stroud 10 years to finally license "Sweets for My Sweet" by the Riddles, it could be the same deal with our later singles. If I ever find out and remember, I'll come back and post a second reply, but, as of this writing, your guess is as good as mine. Thanks for the many years of your support at the charity CD parties and, of course, for the decades of your continued love of New Colony Six songs! Peace...

  • Hey, When are they coming around the Norfolk, Virgina area. I'd love to see them again.

  • You guys still rock..I saw you at The Wild Goose in Waukegan as a kid back around 1968 or so..

  • Didn't NCS have a connection to Chicago? Love the Farfisa!

  • All of us who founded the band were Chicagoans; all the current line-up is too, although you now have to include suburbs!

  • According to numerous sources on the Internet, PR&R began wearing the costumes in 1963.

I saw NC6 on Chicago's Channel 26's "Up Tempo" promoting "I Confess". I believe that they wore suits, and they looked like greasers.

  • If the Raiders did indeed begin wearing their outfits in '63, they did precede us since we did not exist as a band. However, shortly after we formed in '64, and before we even knew PR&R existed, we decided upon our wardrobe on our own. These outfits can be seen on the '65 pirated video of us on Kiddie-A-Go-Go, all over youtube. We never wore suits and as to being greasers, call us whatever you want, but from my memory of what that meant growing up where I lived, none of us fit that profile.

  • It would be nice if some feature film makers used some NC6 and Shames and Buckinghams and Ides etc. on a soundtrack. I think a lot of younguns would like the music.

I never get tired of it regardless of what people are wearing.

My first concert was Little Boy Blues, Ides, PR&R at the old Arie Crown, summer 1966.

  • Great music but lose the costumes. Paul Rever did it first.

  • Both bands independently & concurrently decided upon the colonial look, hence your supposition is incorrect. Further, long story, but mini version: Back in the mid-60s, we shared a two-flat for several months with PR&R, before either of us had success - neither knew the other's outfits until one day we were returning from a gig without having changed & they were about to head off to one in costume. Needless to say, lots of jaws dropped - only significant difference = their 3-cornered hats. True!

  • Grew up in the SF bay area. You had two songs that charted locally. "Love You So Much" reached 27 on the KYA top 40 in late April of '67, and of course "Things...." which peaked much higher, #5 or 6. I think you got some better airplay in the Sacramento area, which had some good stations I would tune in from time to time.

NC6 - good band. Glad to hear you are still doing something with it.

  • Wrote and sang LYSM for a girl I was dating at the time. She will have been my wife for 41 years later in 2008, God willing! Did not know that song reached the Coast (knew that TILTS did) but glad to hear about it, albeit 40+ years after the fact. Maybe one of these days we can land a gig or three near enough to shake your hand - or if you are now in the Midwest, perhaps this summer. Peace...

  • Seemed like KROY in Sacramento and KSTN in Stockton played your songs more than the bay stations did. But that was kinda the way it was. Whatever was big in the bay tended to be weaker in the San Joaquin Valley and vice versa.

I'm in N. Carolina now. Not sure you cracked through the "beach music" thing here on the eastern seaboard. Although I'm sure "Things" did well.

I also remember you guys in the Sears catalog one year representing Sears guitars, drums and amps.

  • Good band

  • You better bone up on your Rock-n-Roll history.- The New Colony Six wore the Colonial

outfits at the EXACT same time that Paul Revere & The Raiders did.- No bull..Just FACT!

  • your right partner, and the NCS had it all over the Raiders, no doubt, although they played a difernet kind of style "smooth" music & the raiders were all rock right down to the bone. So you really can't compare apple with oranges

  • Hey Ray, there's this guy on YouTube (Not Chocolate Rain)that makes animated videos for 60's bands, most notably Left Banke, i bet he'd get you guys right if he tried. that would be cool.

  • We'd be honored but unless he is a Midwesterner, where our Top Ten hits were abundant and more than 20 singles got airplay, methinks we'll not even get consideration... but that would surely be cool or, more apropos of "the day" --- GROOVY!

  • Groovy, yeah, what's that? you put that on top of mashed potatoes or something? any way i'll hit him up...

  • How can you not have one of my very favorite songs of all time on here though,,,,the present version of THINGS I'D LIKE TO SAY ?

  • Good question - I'll see if we get any decent fan vids from this summer's shows, and, if so, perhaps we can correct the omission! Thanks for viewing this one and asking...

  • What a great find! Of course I remember the NC6! I graduated from Borgia in 1961 and Notre Dame in 1965. I ran into Chris Wolski when I was in college but haven't heard of anyone since the late 60s. I'm so glad to hear that you guys are still around!

  • Great segment. I have always enjoyed the music of NC6. I wonder who sings lead vocals for this band. Are any of the original members of the group left? I know there have been numerous personnel changes over the years. Thanks.

  • Thank you for the compliment. Lead vocals in the current band primarily fall on my shoulders (I am an NC6 founder.) & Bruce Mattey (who has been in the band the last 20 years). Some of the other voices you hear on the records are Ronnie Rice in the later days and Pat McBride in the early days. You have heard Pat and me since the very day we formed New Colony Six; Ronnie was invited to join us in our second year. Hope this covers your questions; thanks for the interest!

  • Thanks so much! I have known "Things I'd Like to Say" and "I Will Always Think About You" for many years. I purchased "Colonized! The Best Of New Colony Six" on Rhino Records back in 1993 and fell in love with the Sentar stuff. Recently I bought "Colonization" on Sundazed Records and "Treat Her Groovy" on El records because someone introduced "Come And Give Your Love To Me", "Free", "Hello Lonely", "Accept My Ring" and I fell in love with them. Thanks for the great stuff!

  • I'll respond to the entire sequence of comments by simply saying how cool it is that you have been so very kind with your words about the band. You absolutely made my Sunday! Hey maybe one day our paths will cross again - in the interim, blessings to you and yours, Rob.

  • Yeah, Rob, Ray here & I am the only founding member but both Rick (drums) and Bruce (guitar/pompadour) were with us in the day. Rick even played drums on the "Roll On" and "Never Be Lonely" singles, so I consider any personnel from the '60s and '70s to be original. Further, the current iteration has now been together 20 years this summer with only one change in the line-up the past 12 years - incredibly longer timeframe than at any point in the band's 44 year history...

  • Rob: Time flies whether or not you're having fun - it took me a month to respond to your note. And, yeah, you are correct, we have aged fairly gracefully, eh? ;o)

  • A+ studio group. And a great show too.

  • Thanks - see you this coming summer?

  • Very cool!Please post more...super vocals...thnx!

  • LOVED THIS!!! Thanks for uploading!!!! NC6 rocks!!
