the moment that bitch opened her mouth thats when I knew she was an idiot. it's not even an issue with their 'opinions' not aligning with mine, it's that they trash it because they "don't get" the film, and the people that obviously did. and then they go on reviewing insignificant moments like him making a 'chair' - fuck you what the flick, fuck you up your stupid asses.
I really wonder if these critics have ever felt love? Like that insane, not understood, crazy kind of love? The director even says the point of the film is from a voyeuristic view point. It's not a "on the edge of your seat" thriller... it is a simple, subtle love story about young love. SIMPLICITY.
This people have never been in love before... How unprofessional it is to criticize the plot of the movie... That's the way it is just deal with that... If you would be a little bit more open to learning about the film and its director, this is based on his real and PERSONAL experience... So there's no point on criticizing it.. I think your opinions were actually really subjective and rude.
Okay, honestly, it's scary how much I keep agreeing with Christy. I definitely preferred Anton Yelchin with Jennifer Lawrence much more. She was way better.
The movie won at sundance for a reason. You guys are supposed to be movie reviewers but...have you ever even SEEN a movie? It doesn't seem like you do, because you're criticising the character's choice to overstay her visa. Characters in movies make stupid choices ALL THE TIME (eg: girl in horror movie goes to check out a suspicious noise instead of running for her life) but that is how the PLOT ADVANCES! You could argue that characters in ANY film make dumb mistakes, thats just how movies work.
@LINDSAYLIKEOMG You can't compare this to a popcorn horror flick. Those characters always make bad choices because it's part of the fun. This is supposed to b a realistic film about a relationship. And to make a decision like overstaying the visa is a very ignorant decision. I wasn't that annoyed, but it did fail miserably.
To everyone who thinks the critics are losers who don't understand love: We do. What we don't understand is how the twits in this movie have zero ability to reconcile love and common sense.
I haven't seen this movie but couldn't they both go to toronto? Us Canadians are part of the common wealth so it's easy for her to get here and it's even easier for americans to come here.
i for one loved it. i thought it was very realistic and i liked that they didnt make it seem all fairy tale like. i thought it was a very sweet love story that had the typical ups and downs in a relationship that involves such desire and passion. I loved it especially because i can relate.
@FinalConflict99 "Fucking people who can't take opinions from professional critics who analyze movies because its there job, i hate people who cant go into mature debate in this world, these people are a disease that needs to be wiped out of existence, fucking immaturity".
fuck these "critics" lol i loved the movie. they're criticizing the character's decisions.. no shit, that's the way the movie is making it to be. if these asshole critics want to be REALISTIC, what about the FUCKING INTERNET. those characters did not have facebook or skype? LOL WTF. BESIDES the obvious, the way the PLOT went, it makes sense how these characters panned out. i don't want to spoil shit, but SPOILER ALERT
it's a fucking tragic romance, but brilliant how it turns out to be.
This movie is great because it captures such a genuine relationship between two people. Something you rarely get to see these days. People love it because they can relate to it. You may not have experienced something like this, but there are people who have.
Fucking critics have nothing better to do but to shit on movies,i hate this world so much, we are a disease that needs to be wiped out of existence, fucking hipsters.
There's some American bigotry here- of course it's near-impossible to get into our country! Like they've completely internalised it. This might be one of those times when the fact that a successful movie critic is a successful movie critic gets in the way of them relating to the people they're critiquing for, unable to understand us lesser mortals.
This movie is fantastic, you clearly did not understand this movie at all. As a 17 year old who is in love with a girl who i only get to see around once every 2 weeks, I can honestly say that this movie was tremendous and very accurately and smarty depicted what it is to be in their situation. The rollercoaster of emotions were displayed brilliantly through some awesome direction and great acting. It's really not pretentious bullshit, it's simply an emotion that these 3 are incapable of grasping
@DouglasKellock Perhaps there is something about young love. But I see my girlfriend once a month. She's in Taiwan and I'm in the US. Her student visa actually ran out and had to return to Taiwan, but she comes here sometimes and I go back there sometimes. I just find this "conflict" to be really dumb just like these three have said.
I usually love your reviews, guys, but this time you're really missed the mark. You don't seem to have understood the film, which is FAR more cynical than you give it credit for. It almost feels like you're talking about a completely different movie. It's like you're describing The Graduate as an overly sweet, sentimental romance. There's actually a reason Yelchin isn't dropping everything to move closer to her, which should be clear given that the idea is brought up to him in the film.
My fiancee` is from Mexico and I can tell you right now -- no intelligent person fucks with immigration at any point. It's not a game, if anyone needs information about traveling abroad let me know.
@Couz89 No no dude, when she said that every one of them were not in love or married she was just being sarcastic, I know that Matt for one recently got married, sorry to bust your bubble, I wanted to get in there too
it looks to me like a movie about this new age youth, who is used to have everything thrown at them an not use their brains in the process. anyway. not a movie I would watch.
@troglodyte3344 Well, first... a protagonist generally can't be evil unless the film is trying to get the audience to root for evil. I know there are some examples, but they are rare. Generally main protagonist and evil are in direct opposition.
Second... you are complaining that in American films British actors are always villains? I thought you meant characters who are specifically British. Are you serious?!! British actors portray good characters in American films far more than the reverse.
@TheHobgoblyn First, since a protagonist means main character in the English language a protagonist certainly can be evil so I don't know where you are coming from on that one.
Second, Most British actors are portrayed as bad people and If you know otherwise then I suggest you prove it seeing as I made the statement and u c fit to rhetort to it.
thirdly, what is this fucking first and second bollocks? Is that how homosexuals communicate with the rest of the world or are you just a retard?
@troglodyte3344 Protagonist means THE main character-- as in the person the events unfold around. Not "main character" as in a character with a large part. For a work to be successful, such a character needs to be sympathetic. While there are cases of the primary figure of the play doing evil things, their acts tend to be mitigated.
Go look at the term "antagonist" then shoot yourself in shame-- in case showing yourself to be a filthy, ignorant, loud-mouthed slut wasn't enough.
@TheHobgoblyn On an irrelevant note, I agree with your definition and thus think Al Pacino being nominated for best "supporting" actor in the Godfather was bullshit as his character was clearly the protagonist.
@TheHobgoblyn seriously dude are you really 30 and saying shit like first, second and third? Do you know what a nerd you sound like? Please lose your virginity as soon as possible even if it means sleeping with a prostitute. Even if your mother is a prostitute, I suggest you sleep with her just so you can stop being such a dick head.
@jaluck Word, Sundance is full of pretentious bullshit people voting for pretentious bullshit movies. It's one large circle jerk that closes off the movie complex to people with real talent.
