Racism and segregation were hallmarks of the democrats. Look up George Wallace and segregation. Republicans was the first party to have blacks, since it began. Blacks weren't allowed to attend Democrat conventions until 1924.

No, I haven't been to a Tea Party rally. I would probabably be photographed and tagged for retribution. Why else take a picture of someone suspected of "variant thinking?" You may not be racist, but saying you pay your bills implies that the other side doesn't. No one is saying that anyone who opposes Obama is a bigot, but let's be real; much of the vitriol is race based. When tea party people show up at rallies with signs that say "go back to Kenya," or impose his face on a monkey, what other motivation can you think of? Most teapartiers are exclusionist; they believe in a society composed only of people like them.

The Tea party agaenda must be obscured so it won't be discovered for what it is. If they said that they oppose the legitimacy of a president because he is black, or that they don't want their taxes supporting blacks on welfare, they would be dismissed as a hate group. But that is the reason for them coming into being. So they deny the underlying truth in order to gain credibility. These people have been around forever. What I don't get about American politics (I'm live in Oslo) is this: why is "liberal" and "progressive" considered profanity? The word "liberal" implies freedom or liberty, and America is, as we all know, supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave. Progress is development, am I right? What's so bad about development? And what the point of conserving (as in "conservative") a state of affairs to which there is a better option? Isn't that why society progresses, for the better?
