  • wel done man! im goin to the maguire programme on wednesday in cork and i cant wait!

  • Good man, you were sounding great during your farewell speech, It looks to me as though the technique clicked very easliy with you. Best of luck in the future.

  • I'm doing speech therapy at the moment, the things I have found effective is taking my time..also if I feel that I'm approaching a word that is gonna be difficult to say I'll try to find another with the same meaning but easier to say...I'm doing alot of phone call stuff at the moment coz its my main problem, I find if you read stuff aloud from, like a book its fluent...so I write quite alot of stuff down...anyhoo hope some of this helps.

  • guys my stammer is the worst. at my speech therapy the other people can control it but i cant. i just want to get on with my life any advice? btw is their any treatment for stammering physical treatment?

  • Are you on the McGuire programme?

  • i tried the mcguire programme, finished it and was fluent. then i lost a member of family and it came back. i don't think its a long term solution.

i'm now in college with a boyfriend despite still having a stammer.

well done for getting over it, but i've accepted my stammer is a part of my life.

  • the mcguire programme is not about making you fluent. Your stammer came back because you seeked fluency instead of eloquence.

  • Your stamnmer came back probably because you became sloppy and didnt put the work in or didnt keep using your technique

If you put the work in then the McGurie programme works

  • no i wasn't sloppy, even the people workin with me said i should leave it, i just wasn't for me. now i'm with working with different techniques and a different speech therapist and virtually have no stutter.

even stutter is different and some need just different methods

  • You're not using technique by the sounds of it..

  • eh i was, every stammer is different and some just need other ways to keep it other control. i have a new programme now and i'm doin better with it then the mcguire programme

  • You must have been doing something wrong but gl.

  • i didn't do it wrong, it just didn't work for my personal. the technique didn't work for me and if it worked for you great, but not one technique is gonna work for very tpye of stammer out there.

  • It's not just 'one technique', 'the technique' encompasses a variety of different techniques, for example, deep & breathy tone, assertive first sound, deliberate dysfluency and so on. 'The technique' also encompasses getting over the psychological fear of stammering via doing contacts & disclosing etc. It has the potential to work for any type of stammer.

  • well i didn't for mine and other people i know in ireland who have have stammers and tried it. a stammer is a neurological defect carried on by genetics at times, this alone can cause many varies of stammer.

i'm just speaking from my experience, i tried it, it worked for a while, then it came back. now i work with a speech therapist on different techniques which work beautifully for me.

  • Did you think to question why your stammer came back or just assume the technique wasn't working.

  • Well done, mate.

  • I'm hoping to do the Maguire Programme this year, i can't wait to meet people like myself

  • Well done mate. I did the programme in Ireland last August. I have my next course this week in Dublin

  • WELL DONE, I hope it makes ure life a little easier.....for me personally im 28 I have lived with it all my life, im use to it, so I am not to bother about making it better, but if I was your ages I would certainly of given it a go

  • Well done. I'm also a McGuire grad. I personally have never liked the hit and hold that the question person is using to ask the questions in the first part of the video, as I feel it leads to a stutter more. From what I've heard its a big focus on the UK courses. Keep moving forward, no holding back and RESIST time pressure :)

  • Lewis,

    Well done mate

  • go you! :) Keep moving forward x
