LOL I can't find any argument against that, You're right about it being an inequivalent parody thing like you explained. However, that is just a name to represent himself on youtube and even if the name is flawed it does not invalidate the messages he brought in his videos.
@Cubelarooso no need to apologize for what others have done, anyway appreciate the in general empathy. TimJmorrison I had answered that question from a previous user, basically admitting atheist can be in a religion defeats the purpose of what NSC was trying to argue, that atheism isn't a religion. Either that or it's like saying a non hubbyiest who still does have a hubby, which doens't make much sense.
You don't think you're being just a little bit anal here? Your point could be made in 30 seconds, or even just a comment left on his channel. Instead you make a 3 minute video and clutter the screen with what you're already saying in the video anyway. Is NSC's name REALLY worth making a VIDEO over? It's not even a point in any of his vids, it's just his user name. If you make a response to a video, it is customary to adress the points made in that video. What you are doing is simply odd.
@Gilmaris well I made another video refining my points, I scripted it to tackle the main problems right away. You can watch it if you want I'll send a link. It also explains why it was important to me to point out his flawed name.

@NonStampCollector What a man of integrity, instead of acknowledging you error, or humbling admitting your name is flawed, you spin this into I don't know how to take a joke. @TimJMorrison admiting atheist are still part of a religion defeats the purpose of saying atheism isn't a religion, because you are saying they are which is what NSC was trying to distance himself from. You'll argue Buddahist or Janist don't have to believe in a God to follow the philiosophy, that's like someone who says he's in a bowling team, but he's no bowler he isn't any good at it, he just does it to for the social aspects

P.S., the name "NonHobbyEnthusiast" is a pretty shit channel name. The only other channel name I thought of using was "NonParticipantInCertainCulturallyPopularActivities" but it was a bit too long.
@NonStampCollector hey genius when a joke doesn't make sense, say told by someone who is mentally retarded & they get the punchline wrong, no I don't think it's funny to laugh at them. In the same way, I don't think it's funny to laugh at you because of your learning disability, that would be mean. I think you have missed the point of the title Non-Stamp Collector. It isn't a question of rejecting one or all hobbies but rather the fact that everyone is born a non stamp collector by default. This is analogous to 'weak' agnostic atheism which is a default position brought about by lack of acceptable evidence for any god.
@magrpe his name tag is part of his gimmick, I think it faulty so of coarse I'd mention it, i think his name should be NonHobbyEnthusiast to be accurate at the point he was making. He should say NonHobbyEnthusiast is a hobby, becaue I could be a non Jew & still be religious by being a Hindu

@miking193 Instead of actually dealing with any of the points he's made you went after his name, which is completely logical. Why did you over analyze it to the degree that you did? Is it even possible to get into an argument about how you missed the point of his name? It's more than nit picky, it's ass backwards.
Wow... that was a complete waste of my time. I think you're trying a little too hard to find a nit to pick on this one, and if you're honest with yourself, I hope you'll see it too. Atheism is not a world view. It is only a component. Yes, most Atheists tend to believe in evolution, secularism, and other ideas. However, Atheism simply describes one thing: a lack of a belief in any deity.
Atheists tend to not have the hierarchal, authority based world view that religious theists have. Atheists tend to from their beliefs from logical methodologies, and observation rather than having them implanted by religious authority. Don't project your cognitive view of the world on us.
@evildude220 ok what does that have to with NSC & his bad name. Agreed their are different types of atheist, just like their are different denominations of Christians. Everything else i disagree with you on, if atheist don't become atheist because of authority, why do so many atheist quote academic authority such as Dawkins, Sagan, etc.. A true skeptic would be also skeptical of the academic authority we have a video in our favorites about this, by the way the guy who made it is not a Christian
@miking193 The point I was trying to make was that Atheists tend to form their world view from observations, and reasoned logic rather than authority.I believe in things that are can be measured, observed, and tested by a strict methodology.
Many adherents of religion from their beliefs simply because an authority figure told them it was so.
Religion is based on authority. Science(upon much most atheists base their beliefs) is based observation and reason.
@evildude220 their plenty of atheist in authority, many college professor's are atheist & wield some merit of authority, & they teach you should believe " in things that are can be measured, observed, and tested by a strict methodology. just what you typed. I don't believe in God because some priest or pastor told me too. I believe in God. If you like we did a 10 part series on the evidence for God
@wecaan non Christian is to Christian as non-stamp-collecting is to stamp collecting, however atheist is to God/religious belief as non stamp collecting is to no hobby Enthusiast
WOW! You've some how managed to take a simple YouTube users piss-take on a typical bullshit religious argument (Atheism is a religion) in which they (NSC) used as a channel name [note: intently ironic], and somehow 'snowball' it, into arriving at the conclusion of them using 'poor-thinking' ? Creditability, is that it?
...is this all they have left? Critiquing user names? Talk about clutching at straws lol
@phedreall what a typical lying atheist move, avoid when your wrong, go "so what we're wrong here, I don't care you are an idiot, you still believe in a sky daddy, who cares if you are right in this point, I'm intellectual I am never wrong, you always are"... why can't you just be a man and say you know what NSC is wrong here
@phedreall his name tag is part of his gimmick, I think it faulty so of coarse I'd mention it, i think his name should be NonHobbyEnthusiast to be accurate at the point he was making. He should say NonHobbyEnthusiast is a hobby, because I could be a non Jew & still be religious by being a Hindu
@miking193 : You are repeating stock quotes here.... Accusing a genuinely orginal and entertaining Youtuber as being gimmicky makes you look quite churlish. Why don't you produce something as whitty and well informed in response and then we might take you seriously as well... just an idea... :o)
@phedreall what a joke, instead of admitting it's his big stick his name, & it's flawed, you tip toe around to the point, of it doesn't matter if I was correct because it's a minor point. So what I'm still right his name is flawed. Thanks for the feedback, I'm being sarcastic.
jesus fucking christ, you have the worst sense of humor or irony ever. I bet you're one of those assholes that picks apart every minute detail of a movie just to annoy people who like it.
@qtzlctl2012 it's sad to see someone who can't admit when they're wrong. If I were an atheist picking apart a Christian you'd probably love it, however... This isn't just about taking apart a joke but showing how a supposed intellectual, with a clever gimmick really isn't that thoughtful
@miking193 I'm not admitting anything because I don't agree with you. If this is about anything, it's about how you missed the whole point and are rattling on about nonsense. It's like you're at a debate and your opponent challenges your very world view and you bitch about his nametag.
@qtzlctl2012 his name tag is part of his gimmick, I think it faulty so of coarse I'd mention it, i think his name should be NonHobbyEnthusiast to be accurate at the point he was making. He should say NonHobbyEnthusiast is a hobby, becaue I could be a non Jew & still be religious by being a Hindu
@miking193 I still disagree with you. The original quote "saying atheism is a religion is like saying not collecting stamps is a hobby" is perfectly valid.
@qtzlctl2012 have no hobby would fit better that was my point, MY faith isn't I am a non Muslim, it's I am a Christian. Your's is neither, the best fit would be no hobbies.
@miking193 This is why it's wrong: You're saying it should say "saying atheism is a religion is like saying having no hobby is a hobby." That's wrong, because it's putting the same term in the comparison but theism is not the same as religion.
@qtzlctl2012 atheism is a lack of belief in God right, well then not being a hobby enthusiast is lacking what it takes to have a hobby. See how it fits. If atheism is so unreligious then it should be NonHobbyEnthusiast
@miking193 But theism is only one PART of religion. So the phrase names a part and a whole. Atheism and religion, stamp collecting (one hobby) and hobby (the term as a whole). What your suggestion does not fit the scheme.
Besides, your term "hobby enthusiast" makes no sense. Who's a hobby enthusiast? Who likes "hobbies" as a thing. Hobbies are not things. People have hobbies about specific things. using the term so generally makes no sense.
@qtzlctl2012 theism is the central theme to a religion, if not that you allowing atheism to be a religion. Someone who doesn't believe in God is comparable to someone who doesn't want to have a hobby
@miking193 theism does not have to be a central theme. There are religions that do not have gods. That's why atheism, in and of itself, cannot be called a religion. Because lacking that belief, is like lacking any ACTIVITY that can be called a hobby. The key word there is activity. Stamp Collecting is just the place holder for the activity. Can you honestly say it is clever or even makes sense to say "saying atheism is a religion is like saying having no hobby is a hobby."?
"theism is the central theme to a religion" - It isn't, Buddhism is a religion and is atheistic.
"Someone who doesn't believe in God is comparable to someone who doesn't want to have a hobby" - No, more like "Someone who doesn't believe in God is comparable to someone who DOESN"T HAVE a hobby"
@miking193 no im not you asked for something general and i gave you something general running is a sport shared around the world that has effected our culture and has been here a long time is not running a sport?
@onlythefacts999 i think his name should be NonHobbyEnthusiast to be accurate at the point he was making. He should say NonHobbyEnthusiast is a hobby, because I could be a non Jew & still be religious by being a Hindu
...*Continued from last comment* If you don't like it then use these, they make the same point: "bald is a type of hair", "standing still is a type of walking", "holding your breath is a way of breathing", "fasting is a way of eating", "being awake is a type of sleeping", "not watching what you eat is a type of dieting", "spending your money recklessly is a type of budgeting", "going out to eat is a way of cooking".
@mikerodeman you really missed the point non Christian is to Christian as non-stamp-collecting is to stamp collecting, you can be a non Christian & still believe in God (Muslim deist Hindu New Age Jewish Sikh Satan Native American Spirituality etc...) however atheist is to God/religious belief as non stamp collecting is to non hobby Enthusiast are
...*Continued from last comment* And anything that fulfills the statement "if X lacks Y then X isn't a Y" is logically equivalent to "atheism lacks a belief so atheism isn't a belief". NSC is illustrating the point that the statement "atheism is a religion" is logically inaccurate by the fact that it says the XY statement is false and non-stamp collecting being a hobby is logically inaccurate in exactly the same way and that's it. *Comment continued*...
...*Continued from last comment* And to your point, "NonStampCollector" (NSC) is used to illustrate a point. The point is if X lacks Y then X isn't a Y and it is false to claim that X is a Y. In our case, X=atheism and Y=belief (in a god), i.e. atheism lacks a belief so atheism isn't a belief (atheists don't believe there is no god, they merely just lack a belief in a god and this belief in a god is the only thing that atheism addresses). *Comment continued*...
In the beginning of your video you were appealing to popularity, a common logical fallacy. For example, everyone used to believe Earth was flat, but just because everyone agreed that was so didn't make it was true. You equate Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism to hobbies. They're a religion just as much as Christianity and their followers view your religion as being just as silly as you do theirs. *Comment continued*...
@mikerodeman Look I know what trying to show that I used a fallacy, & all so you can then not listen the rest of the video, but here's where you made a mistake. Hobbies don't equate the same kind of merit in one's life like a religious or non religious world view would, that's why I brought it up not to appeal to popularity, to show the weight of a religious world view or atheistic is much heavier then a hobby or lack their of
your argument falls apart when you claim atheists answer religion's similiar questions with science...
being atheist doesn't automatically mean you follow science/reason. there are plenty of unreasonable atheists out there, it's definitely not a prerequisite.
but the name bit is just something short and easy to remember, shouldn't be analyzed too seriously.
@MNSDaz this line discredit's you "but the name bit is just something short and easy to remember, shouldn't be analyzed too seriously.
MNSDaz" so if you are not going be critical of his name which is his major trick,& what made him stand out, even though his name & trick is inaccurate what are you going to analyze seriously, to me it just seems you'll drink the atheism kool aid, with out thinking deeply about it, that's what I get from your own words
@miking193 do you really think i care bout his name? he makes interesting, funny, and relevant videos. his username could be "stampcollector" and i wouldn't care.
And how does his argument fall apart? Scientists have answered Similar questions that religions had, for instance "How old is the Earth?" The bible says it is 6000 year old (lol) while Science answers the same question with Evidence, over Millions of years old. The bible is not true scripture and as most Christians who back down from an argument say "It shouldn't be taken literally, BUT only when God is nice and giving should it be taken literally".
@Kazuya412 read my comment again: because not all atheists immediately turn to science. you can be atheist and still believe in ridiculous supernatural claims. being reasonable is NOT a prerequisite to being atheist. an atheist could not believe in god for stupid reasons, just as a theist could believe in god for stupid reasons.
How can you be an atheist and still believe in supernatural claims? Atheism is a non belief. If you are an atheist you don't believe in anything supernatural.
This clever observation (that no one seems to have pointed out before) will turn me away from ever watching NSC videos again... This fallacy alone embodies the entire work of NSC. You make an honest-to-god, good pointless point.
The "Non stamp collecting" comment is cute. But, it is silly... nobody identifies themselves or bases their worldview on non-stamp collecting. Plenty of folks identify themselves and base their worldview on their atheism.
@LiftAloft No they don't. Atheists have one thing and one thing only in common with each other and that is they lack a belief in any god. Apart from that any Atheist can view the world differently from any other Atheist. Some atheists are pro-choice, some are pro-life. Some atheists believe in an afterlife, some do not. Some atheists are Republicans, some are Democrats. Some Atheists are even Buddhists. Atheism alone is not the basis for any type of worldview.
You are using the Ad Populum fallacy through the first minute or so. As for a better example... calling someone who dislikes sports a Yankee fan or an athlete. Hail Science.
@spikesmth if science is what you hail, you make science look bad, because you don't address the main point religion is to atheism isn't equivalent of hobbies is to stamp collecting rather atheism is to religion as non hobby enthusiast is to a hobby, thanks for the comment
@miking193 hmmm well in that case we can accept that christian is to religion is as stamp collector is to a hobby. So non-christian is to religion is as non stamp collector is to a hobby is valid.
@incoherentPropaganda non Christian is to Christian as non-stamp-collecting is to stamp collecting, you can be a non Christian & still believe in God (Muslim deist Hindu New Age Jewish Sikh Satan Native American Spirituality etc...) however atheist is to God/religious belief as non stamp collecting is to non hobby Enthusiast
@miking193 maybe that's not the intended analogy, but the point is that atheism isn't a religion, his example may need a bit of work, but it's still valid since "non hobby enthusiast isn't a hobby"
@incoherentPropaganda I agree his point needs work, however i disagree it's not valid here's why non Christian is to Christian as non-stamp-collecting is to stamp collecting, you can be a non Christian & still believe in God (Muslim deist Hindu New Age Jewish Sikh Satan Native American Spirituality etc...) however atheist is to God/religious belief as non stamp collecting is to non hobby Enthusiast
Collecting stamps is the one true hobby.

Talk about clutching at straws lol
phedreall 1 year ago 18
@phedreall what a typical lying atheist move, avoid when your wrong, go "so what we're wrong here, I don't care you are an idiot, you still believe in a sky daddy, who cares if you are right in this point, I'm intellectual I am never wrong, you always are"... why can't you just be a man and say you know what NSC is wrong here
miking193 1 year ago
@phedreall his name tag is part of his gimmick, I think it faulty so of coarse I'd mention it, i think his name should be NonHobbyEnthusiast to be accurate at the point he was making. He should say NonHobbyEnthusiast is a hobby, because I could be a non Jew & still be religious by being a Hindu
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 : You are repeating stock quotes here.... Accusing a genuinely orginal and entertaining Youtuber as being gimmicky makes you look quite churlish. Why don't you produce something as whitty and well informed in response and then we might take you seriously as well... just an idea... :o)
magrpe 1 year ago
@phedreall what a joke, instead of admitting it's his big stick his name, & it's flawed, you tip toe around to the point, of it doesn't matter if I was correct because it's a minor point. So what I'm still right his name is flawed. Thanks for the feedback, I'm being sarcastic.
miking193 1 year ago
jesus fucking christ, you have the worst sense of humor or irony ever. I bet you're one of those assholes that picks apart every minute detail of a movie just to annoy people who like it.
qtzlctl2012 1 year ago
@qtzlctl2012 it's sad to see someone who can't admit when they're wrong. If I were an atheist picking apart a Christian you'd probably love it, however... This isn't just about taking apart a joke but showing how a supposed intellectual, with a clever gimmick really isn't that thoughtful
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 I'm not admitting anything because I don't agree with you. If this is about anything, it's about how you missed the whole point and are rattling on about nonsense. It's like you're at a debate and your opponent challenges your very world view and you bitch about his nametag.
qtzlctl2012 1 year ago
@qtzlctl2012 his name tag is part of his gimmick, I think it faulty so of coarse I'd mention it, i think his name should be NonHobbyEnthusiast to be accurate at the point he was making. He should say NonHobbyEnthusiast is a hobby, becaue I could be a non Jew & still be religious by being a Hindu
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 I still disagree with you. The original quote "saying atheism is a religion is like saying not collecting stamps is a hobby" is perfectly valid.
qtzlctl2012 1 year ago
@qtzlctl2012 have no hobby would fit better that was my point, MY faith isn't I am a non Muslim, it's I am a Christian. Your's is neither, the best fit would be no hobbies.
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 This is why it's wrong: You're saying it should say "saying atheism is a religion is like saying having no hobby is a hobby." That's wrong, because it's putting the same term in the comparison but theism is not the same as religion.
qtzlctl2012 1 year ago
@qtzlctl2012 atheism is a lack of belief in God right, well then not being a hobby enthusiast is lacking what it takes to have a hobby. See how it fits. If atheism is so unreligious then it should be NonHobbyEnthusiast
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 But theism is only one PART of religion. So the phrase names a part and a whole. Atheism and religion, stamp collecting (one hobby) and hobby (the term as a whole). What your suggestion does not fit the scheme.
Besides, your term "hobby enthusiast" makes no sense. Who's a hobby enthusiast? Who likes "hobbies" as a thing. Hobbies are not things. People have hobbies about specific things. using the term so generally makes no sense.
qtzlctl2012 1 year ago
@qtzlctl2012 theism is the central theme to a religion, if not that you allowing atheism to be a religion. Someone who doesn't believe in God is comparable to someone who doesn't want to have a hobby
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 theism does not have to be a central theme. There are religions that do not have gods. That's why atheism, in and of itself, cannot be called a religion. Because lacking that belief, is like lacking any ACTIVITY that can be called a hobby. The key word there is activity. Stamp Collecting is just the place holder for the activity. Can you honestly say it is clever or even makes sense to say "saying atheism is a religion is like saying having no hobby is a hobby."?
qtzlctl2012 1 year ago
@miking193 Just to show I can nitpick too:
"theism is the central theme to a religion" - It isn't, Buddhism is a religion and is atheistic.
"Someone who doesn't believe in God is comparable to someone who doesn't want to have a hobby" - No, more like "Someone who doesn't believe in God is comparable to someone who DOESN"T HAVE a hobby"

athiesm is a religon like not running marathons is a sport
or more general athism is a religon like not having a sport being a sport

@onlythefacts999 you're using the same failed analogy I just exposed NSC with, were you kidding?

@mikerodeman you really missed the point non Christian is to Christian as non-stamp-collecting is to stamp collecting, you can be a non Christian & still believe in God (Muslim deist Hindu New Age Jewish Sikh Satan Native American Spirituality etc...) however atheist is to God/religious belief as non stamp collecting is to non hobby Enthusiast are
miking193 1 year ago
...*Continued from last comment* And anything that fulfills the statement "if X lacks Y then X isn't a Y" is logically equivalent to "atheism lacks a belief so atheism isn't a belief". NSC is illustrating the point that the statement "atheism is a religion" is logically inaccurate by the fact that it says the XY statement is false and non-stamp collecting being a hobby is logically inaccurate in exactly the same way and that's it. *Comment continued*...
mikerodeman 1 year ago
...*Continued from last comment* And to your point, "NonStampCollector" (NSC) is used to illustrate a point. *Comment continued*...
mikerodeman 1 year ago
In the beginning of your video you were appealing to popularity, a common logical fallacy. For example, everyone used to believe Earth was flat, but just because everyone agreed that was so didn't make it was true. You equate Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism to hobbies. They're a religion just as much as Christianity and their followers view your religion as being just as silly as you do theirs. *Comment continued*...
mikerodeman 1 year ago
@mikerodeman Look I know what trying to show that I used a fallacy, & all so you can then not listen the rest of the video, but here's where you made a mistake. Hobbies don't equate the same kind of merit in one's life like a religious or non religious world view would, that's why I brought it up not to appeal to popularity, to show the weight of a religious world view or atheistic is much heavier then a hobby or lack their of
miking193 1 year ago
Atheism and acceptance of the theory of evolution do not go hand in hand. There are atheists that do not accept the theory of evolution.
Kargoneth 1 year ago
your argument falls apart when you claim atheists answer religion's similiar questions with science...
being atheist doesn't automatically mean you follow science/reason. there are plenty of unreasonable atheists out there, it's definitely not a prerequisite.
but the name bit is just something short and easy to remember, shouldn't be analyzed too seriously.
MNSDaz 1 year ago
@MNSDaz this line discredit's you "but the name bit is just something short and easy to remember, shouldn't be analyzed too seriously.
MNSDaz" so if you are not going be critical of his name which is his major trick,& what made him stand out, even though his name & trick is inaccurate what are you going to analyze seriously, to me it just seems you'll drink the atheism kool aid, with out thinking deeply about it, that's what I get from your own words
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 do you really think i care bout his name? he makes interesting, funny, and relevant videos. his username could be "stampcollector" and i wouldn't care.
MNSDaz 1 year ago
@MNSDaz
Kazuya412 1 year ago
@Kazuya412 read my comment again: because not all atheists immediately turn to science. you can be atheist and still believe in ridiculous supernatural claims. being reasonable is NOT a prerequisite to being atheist. an atheist could not believe in god for stupid reasons, just as a theist could believe in god for stupid reasons.
MNSDaz 1 year ago
@MNSDaz
How can you be an atheist and still believe in supernatural claims? Atheism is a non belief. If you are an atheist you don't believe in anything supernatural.
Kazuya412 1 year ago
@Kazuya412 atheist means no belief in a god. an atheist could still believe in silly stuff like ghosts, UFOs, reptoids, whatever.
what you're describing sounds more like secular humanism, which rejects ALL supernatural claims
MNSDaz 1 year ago
@Kazuya412
An atheism doesnt believe in god, what you are claiming to be an atheist is not true.

This clever observation (that no one seems to have pointed out before) will turn me away from ever watching NSC videos again... This fallacy alone embodies the entire work of NSC. You make an honest-to-god, good pointless point.
mku17ra 1 year ago
The "Non stamp collecting" comment is cute. But, it is silly... nobody identifies themselves or bases their worldview on non-stamp collecting. Plenty of folks identify themselves and base their worldview on their atheism.
LiftAloft 1 year ago

Hail Science.
spikesmth 1 year ago
@spikesmth if science is what you hail, you make science look bad, because you don't address the main point religion is to atheism isn't equivalent of hobbies is to stamp collecting rather atheism is to religion as non hobby enthusiast is to a hobby, thanks for the comment
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 but theism is to atheism as stamp collecting is to non stamp collecting
incoherentPropaganda 1 year ago
@incoherentPropaganda nope he said non stamp collecting is to a hobby, so your analogy doesn't work,
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 hmmm well in that case we can accept that christian is to religion is as stamp collector is to a hobby. So non-christian is to religion is as non stamp collector is to a hobby is valid.
incoherentPropaganda 1 year ago
@incoherentPropaganda non Christian is to Christian as non-stamp-collecting is to stamp collecting, you can be a non Christian & still believe in God (Muslim deist Hindu New Age Jewish Sikh Satan Native American Spirituality etc...) however atheist is to God/religious belief as non stamp collecting is to non hobby Enthusiast
miking193 1 year ago
@miking193 maybe that's not the intended analogy, but the point is that atheism isn't a religion, his example may need a bit of work, but it's still valid since "non hobby enthusiast isn't a hobby"
incoherentPropaganda 1 year ago
@incoherentPropaganda I agree his point needs work, however i disagree it's not valid here's why non Christian is to Christian as non-stamp-collecting is to stamp collecting, you can be a non Christian & still believe in God (Muslim deist Hindu New Age Jewish Sikh Satan Native American Spirituality etc...) however atheist is to God/religious belief as non stamp collecting is to non hobby Enthusiast
