I did not surf for 3 months after that incident. Felt sandpaper like skin brush across me and it turned a 4-5 ft. spinner shark. First time back out in water shark hit a bat fish right next to me bit it in half...I turned around and paddled to shore. Still surf but lost most of confidence. This all took place at Ponce Inlet, Florida which is the North sized of New Smyrna...plenty sharks and rash of about 6 bites that week...mine almost the first. Moved to Cali and now surf with old "Whitey"

Hit me directly from below, hitting my right foot and tossed me off of my board to the left (sitting on board waiting for a set)...hopped back on board on my belly feet up arms up and shark's dorsal breached the surface..heading away from me, it circled back and was going to bite. I was perpendicular to the shark and leaned the opposite way to put my board between me and it and swam at me and went below me and just swam away.
