My junior year at ECU . . . and the most fun I've ever had as a sports fan. The Pirates lost that first game at the Carrier Dome, setting moderate expectations for the season, and then ran the table. Week after week, upset after upset. My personal favorite was the Pitt game. We were sitting behind the most obnoxious, condescending Panther fan, who I made a point to hug, yelling and jumping up and down, while Ficklen went nuts after we stopped them right at the very end. Thanks for the upload!
I was a sophomore that year. I remember Bill Lewis saying post Peach Bowl game he wanted to stick around and build something at ECU. Next day, gone to Ga Tech. Maybe he should have stuck around, although Logan had a few good years.
I was 3 years old during this season. The first ECU game I went to was in 1989 when I was 1 year old and we beat Virginia Tech 14-10. My dad (ECU '82) took me to the Akron game where we blew them out bad. He still talks about this season, for example, before the BONEYARD (2010, my year), before the upper deck (1998), before the Murphy Center (2001), majority of the GOLD parking lot behind upperdeck side (1997)....he STILL says the last moment of the PITT game was the loudest he has ever Dowdy!!!
This was my senior yr @ ECU. I was at the game on a cold Atlanta day....a little hung over 2 boot.
My father (ECU-65) and sister (ECU 2002) also attended ECU all from Dutchess County NY............ My NY plates read IM4 ECU
I'm headin' down to DC 4 the game against the Terps. I stormed the field many times that year and I hope to be out on the grass @ RFK next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice story.....I was on the field that year in Atlanta and DF when we played Pitt. I graduated in the Spring of 91' and was automatically given a membership to the Pirate Club. Because of that, I was able to get tickets for the Peach Bowl.......memories I'll never forget.
The greatest year of my football life! The measuring stick for our program. I brings tear to my eyes as well ! May God Bless MY ECU Pirates. We are starting to turn the corner to greatest as a program under the leadership of Terry Holland.
i hope we can use this as an example to play through the whole season and finish like we did that year. one game at a time. no cockiness just blue collar football!! I BELIEVE
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the tribute. You're right, that first game was one most people don't remember. The head official later said that the last call was a mistake.
No, that was standard operating procedure for Big Ten officials back in those days. You make a completely horrible call that costs the non-Big Ten team the game...apologize for it publically, but privately everyone knows its just more BOHICA...Bend Over, Here It Comes Again.

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the great music that year!!!
For me, it was the Fall after I graduated in the Spring of 91'. I went to most of the home games, most notably the Pitt game.

Great tribute to a great team. A lot of people don't remember that only a bunch of Big Ten refs kept the Pirates from finishing undefeated that year.

@derkommissar1917 ACC refs tried pulling that on us this year against State. We still prevailed, though. :-)

@dcbandnerd 3 interceptions called back on "penalties", still couldn't keep us from winning!
