well see the whole battle against grimmjow was so ichigo would become a transcendent being by helping him master his hollow form powers. He already mastered his shimigami powers when he got banki. He then had to overcome his fear of his hollow powers after he faces off with "green eyes (lol)". Spoiler!!!!! He then is able to transcend to a state higher than that of the hogyoku's abilities. For example his final form in the anime books.

I'm taking a random shot in the dark at this but i think it's because their hollow forms seem to be closer to the Ajuukaru level. While Ichigo's doesn't have an exact classification because when he was going through his vizard training he and turned into a hollow with a tail and so on it seemed more of the Ajuukaru while in his latest fight against Ulquiorra he seems to be on the Vastoorodes class
