  • Sorry, but the piece is written for Choir a cappella and with a pulse of 40. But who cares...

  • Ele vai nas alturas , sublime. Muito lindo .Deus seja louvado

  • hehe we have to sing this in chorus

  • Pärt's work is of such a supernatural beauty! He has the gift of conveying very much in just a few musical notes :)

  • I think religion has nothing to do with it. Arvo part is an extremely gifted composer, being a believer doesn't mean there is a god, it is merely his muse. God wishes he could write music like this.

  • There is something in the music of Arvo Pärt that you could never put in notes ... It is the expression of his devoutness and faith ... This music is meant to be heard not only by the visible audience, but also by a special, invisible being ... God ... I think that is what makes his music so special among all the contemporary composers.

  • I'm sorry to tell you this, but this is from "Lamentate", not "In Principio".

    You should make the correction.

  • @amorsse - I'm sorry but you make a mistake. It is correct. This performance, this clip, is indeed from the album 'In Principio'. On 'Lamentate' you'll find a different version, a cappella performed by the Hilliard Ensemble.

  • I wish I worked there..fml

  • "I know a big secret, but I know it only in music and only through the music can I express it. How do I get to it?"

    - Arvo Part c.1978

  • Bravo Arvo ! En Ecuador te apreciamos mucho ! Viva la musica !

  • oh my god ... goosebumps!

its one of the most spiritual things i ever heard!

somehow i dont even know how to describe it ... it moves me so much!

  • I find it similar in some ways to the organ on Part's 'Pari Intervallo'. Very beautiful! I love Part's choral. Particularly 'Nunc Dimittis' and his 'Seven Magnficat Antiphones'. This ranks up there too, though!

  • molto, molto bello.

  • This music comes from far away out of another dimension which we cannot know, but it touches our lives in a miracolous way.

  • @RedFrostIndustries: well it´s quite hard to describe actually, because it has that tricky "õ" in it. If you´re interested, Google "õ pronounciation" and click on the first link that comes up (everything2). You should find a pretty useful short account on Estonian pronounciation, including that infamous õ.

  • Great video. One small remark though: the conductor´s first name is spelled "Tõnu", not "Tonu". These small signs on the vowels make quite a big difference in the Estonian language:)

  • @uusdivisjon how do you pronounce his first name BTW...Thanks

  • My soul wonders away from my body every time I listen to Maestro Pärt

  • Beautiful! Where in NYC was this performed? It's an interesting space...

  • brilliant composer.

  • omigosh it sounds so pretty... i wonder what it would be like if i could listen to it it real lifee.. it would be so amazingg ^^

  • This music gives me shivers

  • i love this music...it's so beautiful... so beautiful....

  • Thanks for input. Am I alright to mention God, etc if it is obviously "spiritual" such as Russian Orthodox chants...or is it still better to steer clear of that wording? Is there site giving suggestions such as yours so I do not trip over myself?

  • @jonaggod The title actually translates as "Give peace, O Lord".

  • this sounds so beautiful! great job! our choir is singing 'a da pacem domine' but in a different arrangement.

  • excelente !!! gracias amigo por compartir..y por hacerme descrubir esto !!

  • Arvo Pärt is a genius of sacred minimalism, and one of my favorite contemporary composers. 5 stars for this video =)

  • ¡Thank you very much!

    ¡Excellent!

  • Se peueden conseguir mas videos de esta presentacion???

  • As gregorio66 hints, this piece is actually Da Pacem Domine, not In Principio. And the performers are the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and (I think) the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. But THANK YOU for adding this to YouTube! Love it.

  • simplemente hermoso

  • Pretty emo view of the beginning of the universe... (I'm kidding)

  • First time I heard Part I felt almost hynotized, this sense remains with many of his work. He is a sort of Bach: our era's Bach.

  • This sounds just a little bit like

    Bach, doesn't it?

  • Profound

  • @nexus667 No he's not...... NO WAY. Arvo Part is actually musical.

  • very Karamanovesque...impressive

  • Da pacem, Domine, in diebus nostris

    Quia non est alius

    Qui pugnet pro nobis

    Nisi tu Deus noster.

  • Deus noster, pugnationem nostram sine spe vincitur.

  • Sublime! The Great Mystic Composer of our Times!
