I may be out on a limb here, but I half suspect that a constant diet of this type of music could easily drive an ambitious type A mongol to leave his native land and conquer the known world
I have been throat singing for over six months now and it is an incredible to produce these sounds. Everyone can do it, it's just being dedicated to making sounds that at first may seem strange. I'm not as good as the man in this video. He has years of experience behind creating these sounds. Fortunately, I'm only 18 and hope to continue to make them. Being as good as him is simply being dedicated to make funny sounds with your throat. It's beautifully and it's make me smile when I do it.
I like the overtones but goddammit I feel dizzy when I listen to throat singing because of that UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Throatsinging is always amazing and beautiful... but I have to say, I feel bad for the sound check guys in the US who probably took a while to figure out it was this guy singing and not the mic going crazy.
You know before Genghis Khan would invade, people in villages would hear the death chants just before the invasion to know when to flee and that they were close by. Just imagine listening to over 100 thousand people throat singing. Eerie. Check out the movie "Mongol" soundtrack to see what i refer to
this music blows my mind. some of the throat singers can make a variety of sounds and they all mean something, like a tone for the wind 1 for the alti mountains and so on. all comes from gengis khan witch they pronounce gengis han.
@wesharris6 I think it depends from language to language. We write it as "Genghis Khan" (with "we", I mean Belgium.), but I've seen a LOT of other ways to write it.
Je les ais vu une fois dans une petite ville en France, y avait 700 personnes dans la salle, entraînés à entendre de la musique de qualité et de bon niveau, qui en sont littéralement restés sur le cul! Moi le premier!
it remainds me of Demetrio Stratos, wich I never fully appreciated in his vocal experimentation. but I guess tis good to listen to something out of the ordinary every once in a while.
@tantsev Well yes and no. He isn't responsible for the extra notes. Sound always has more than one pitch when produced by singing or any instrument, really; these are called overtones. He is "simply" (it is far from simple) manipulating his throat, vocal folds, and mouth cavity to increase the volume and resonance of these overtones.
its more that he uses his tongue to filter out the overtones,he is singing one note, and he keeps doing that, then he uses his tongue (and mouth) for the overtones. u can hear that at 1:36. nobody can do 2 notes in his throat, would be cool though
@tantsev Well, actually, no. The whistle sound doesn't come from the throat. The technique consists basically in positioning your mouth and toungue in such a way that the air coming from your lungs combines with the tone of your voice and produces something called harmonics (high-pitched-whistle-like sound). To put it in perspective, it's similar to blowing air into a pen tube. But anyway, it's amazing! It takes a lot of practice to be able to do that.
