  • I just realized that Digable Planets based their whole rap careers around the lyrical cadence of this song.

    ....wow Qtip is a genius.

  • The Original Version Of This Song Features Afrika Baby Bam From The

    Jungle Brothers.

  • @DnnQns U sure, or was that the remix version??? Now, U got me thinkin' 'cuz I totally forgot 'bout that version...LOL

  • @meechamaka411 yes, i'm sure. it tells you on the b-side of the "can i kick it?" 12 inch.

  • @DnnQns I had the single when I used to spin...the version wit' Baby Bam (JBs) was the remix version...that's Y I was askin'!!!

  • this is the ill lost single from tribe. tip has so much style man whyd he have to fall off

  • He never fell off, the buying public did.

  • "Bonita Applebum blow smoke in Sha's face" Dopeness.

  • i agree

  • are you kids tight in?!

  • *taketh away..

I'm so mad I messed that up!

    lol

  • yo does anyone know if 'If The Papes Come (Remix)' from the album 'Revised Quest for the Seasoned Traveller' is the same as the version in 'The Anthology' album ?

  • no its not

  • i read that the record company put out the anthology because tribe split and the company needed money. is that true? if so should i get it?

  • @daryl2280 Jive Records didn't need money, they WANTED more money. Normal label practices, they were trying to bleed them for everything. My man ran into Phife in a store and he said they don't get paid for this here anthology that they NEVER officially authorized. Download it and buy future Tribe merch and attend shows.

  • Anybody recall the version with Afrika Baby Bam of the Jungle Brothers?

"...peace to Sweet Daddy & also Mike G,

hard as they come is as hard as we be..."

  • WORD! That version is on a 12". To me, that's the best version of this track. I almost wanna say that Afrika stole the show with his verse... Almost. The shit he spit was straight fire regardless! I wonder why they never put that on CD.

Glad to know that somebody else out there remembers that joint!

  • Oh yes Mono, I recall 'cause I'm straight out the jungle...

  • I still have this record!

  • i remember riding through brooklyn at 3 in the morning wit my man turbo when this came out.

  • original sample: lou donaldson - pot belly

  • Whenever I hear this track, it reminds me of Ice Cube's classic "Horny Lil' Devil". I love how both tracks kinda contrast each other in a way. Both classic.

  • Love their jazz infused beats, their lyrics, and the act that they were so unique. Had imitators, but no one could duplicate what they did. Love ATCQ!

  • @jarbon5 ...good call

  • the beginning is so powerful. i don't know why, it just is. love this song.

  • Yo I always said the same-thing. I love that intro.

'The lord giveth and the lord taketh but not Hip hop, Yo!'

    BIG up the TRIBE!!!

  • I AGREE MAN THE INTRO IS TIGHT YO

  • Tip kills it. Love this dude.. Its sooooo serious for me.

    I miss this shit!

  • The main sample on here is Lou Donaldson's "Pot Belly". Tribe and Pete Rock always picked samples that were perfect for their style.

  • showin no mercy on the symbol, you don't here phat tracks like this on the radio!

  • Nice Peaceove U should all of tribe's songs cuz there all good

  • I wish i can hear the original mix

  • Friendly Game of Baseball....................

  • This version is pretty tight....

But the original version is much much Tighter!!!!!!!!

The original version is on the B-side of the "Can I Kick It" single...and it also includes a verse featuring Baby Huey from Jungle Brothers....

  • Baby Huey or Baby Afrika? I think it's the latter but I can't hate on you for preferring that version better being that it most definitely is.

  • Man, I WISH there was an Instrumental 2 this track.

  • Classical,Modern day Mozart...

  • this song makes me wanna light a joint. tip is undeniably one of the sickest lyricists of our time.

  • OH GOD! I still got this record!!!!!!!

"we Quest for the future, not for the fame"

  • Tribe Called Quest.... Hip Hop's best kept secret! Can anyone deny that theses brothas kept it "HIP HOP"!

  • Big up to Peacove for postin dis classic hip hop joint.. Q Tip is one of the tightest lyracist ever; he maintains his own amongst all hip hop heavy weights! Tribe was too slept on even until this day. Long live Tribe and True Hip Hop headz out there preserving the culture, peace!!

  • TIP IS THE SHIT

  • my goodnesss !!! memories

hip hop was great!!! and this was a bside!!! go figure!!

  • I'm not a fan of rap/hiphop, whatever it is called but this song is great, reminds me of that US3 song, Cantaloop. Any other songs in mind to explore this kind of music? thanks.

  • All good this song was actually the B-Side to Bonita Applebum but you can also hear it on their Anthology CD but then you might have already known that
