  • Exquisite. ;-)

  • Me acabo de enamorar...

  • This would be completely lovely if it were played a little slower. The setting has the majesty and depth required, I'm sure Purcell would be proud to hear this interpretation of his lovely piece. Colline.

  • Pride & Prejudice! <3 Love it.

  • this is the same as the young person's guide to orchestra?

  • @LordBazaar Well, the maine theme of that was this dance tune by Henry Purcell. The Young Perso's guide to the Orchestra, the subtitle is "Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Purcell", so it was based on this :D

  • @LordBazaar yeah young person's guide to the orchestra is based on this :)

  • where can i get this version of the piece?

  • It's just so wonderful!

  • Watch The Moor's Pavane, Jose Limon's storydance of Othello to hear another version. And to see some historic modern dance :)

  • This is the faster and lighter version. Britten's version is the slower and grander version. Both are alright though.

  • I prefer this slower myself,

But I do love this piece <3

  • If you're wondering, the chord progression at the beginning is [i, III, VII,VI].

  • I tap my foot to this.

  • I'm playing this for school :) It's so fun to play.. this version is kind of fast though :S

  • leuk stuk

    lekker vrolijk

  • It's supposed to be fast. It's supposed to sound like The First Churchill's theme, so even too fast is better than too slow in this case.

  • it's music- IMO, you play this piece fast when you have a small chamber group for a dance, but slow when you have, like, the London Symphony Orchestra or a massive pipe organ and want this piece for a huge battle scene. Music is largely subjective, but I think it is fair to say that works of art are most beautiful that can be subtly changed for different purposes, and have the quality that all the variations you can think of remain beautiful: Star Wars' best songs are good either fast or slow.

  • Purcell also wrote "Dido's lament" a Great aria. I reccomend everyone to listen to it. Its opera in English which many people aren't used to.

  • this is the original song which they based a postcard for Henry purcell which plays in pride and prejudice

  • This was used in an old PBS show called The First Churhills

  • this inspired me to a play.

  • A touch too fast for my taste but then it always sounds great this score, I like the pictures

  • yeah, it would sound much better if it were slower in my opinion ...

but this is so brilliant !!!

  • Totally disagree about it needing to be a slower tempo. This is a dance!

  • @HARMONICO101 That may be the case, and I am sure you are right about the tempo, but it would be nice if there were a slower version available to compare. The single instrument versions i have heard, to me, at least, bring out so much more feeling, that makes me think there is a richness in this music that is being overlooked by the tempo

  • @cheerleaderluver11

Britten did a slow, heavy version as the first part to The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Both have their merits, but I prefer the light and transparent original.

  • I only just learned of this song today and I must say it's not only as beautiful as I could have imagined but it's interesting that I first heard the main part of this song through an old video game I used to play that I loved the music of. I can see why they used this song as inspiration. The intro theme of Wizardry V.

  • Indeed it's like a moor kicking a dude in the balls because he wouldn't pay the moor back. What if I can make a video on that and have Purcell's track come on as a theme.

  • i love this piece!

  • My favorite piece by Purcell...extraordinary!!

  • really beautiful and classy! it's incredible how easily you can move from one extreme to the other with the same vibe and dedication!!!

  • benjamin britten used this theme too in the "young person's guide to orchestra"! music and pictures are very beautiful!
