@bdvaly Well... If a tkd fighter hits you with a simple but fast and powerful kick in the stomach and simply beats the hell out of you when you're down, I think it's pretty effective

@jagekurd hi how high do you want to kick, side splits will help all of your kicks to head area, however as will practise.. Try front split right leg in front and back leg moving out till both legs on the ground. Also whilst doing splits , my masters push my legs out with their feet and pull on my arms or belt. The most important thing though is to get your hamstrings in your legs to be strong and flexiable.. Good luck :)
Taekwondo is a joke, kicking is such a small fraction of an actual fight. I have had no problem at all beating every Taekwondo black belt that sifu brings to train our kicks.
Taekwondo is ridiculously one dimensional, fun to watch but incredibly impractical.

TKD is the best, hands are to valuable to be used in combat. Plus Kicks are always the most powerful weapon. Even bruce lee admitts that in his book, and no one is better at kicking then TKD.TKD all the way!!!!!
@ChronosNAME0600 the average olympic roundhouse kick generates 700 pounds of pressure, the average tornado kick is about 700 as well, back kicks in the olympics are typically 900-1400 lbs or force, and spin kicks and air kicks like it usually are 500-700 lbs....and in taekwondo, when u go for the head, u go all out, all or nothing, generally why they fall after a miss at a head kick
I agree with you in TKD there isn't any sort of greater defencive moves, it relies on quickness, leg muscles and of course my favorite reflex:D.But in my opinion it is a valorous style that I respect

In a real battle he would defend with hands also, why i think taeqwondo is the best martial art is because kicks= long range, you always have the advantage if you know how to use the legs.

It's because in sparring, you can't really score with your hands, so there's really no point in keeping them up. You basically use your legs for everything.

@Munx2k7 pretty much, there is little more to it than that. tae kwon do is a sport, not an art of fighting although those kicks hit with extreme power. the emphasize leg techniques because it's their belief that it makes it more of an athletic sport, and to some degree that's true

@Munx2k7 your welcome. everything i said was directly from my gfs mouth. she is an expert on martial arts holding a blackbelt in a couple different styles, one of them is i very closely related to tae kwon do called tang soo do. she teaches me whatever i want to know and is more than happy to dispel any martial arts myths for anyone that wants to listen. too many practitioners like all the misinformation out there because it makes them look more cool, so it brings more people to their school

there are some good dollyo golcho chagi (spinning hook kicks) and naeryo chagi (axe kick) and some effective ap chagi (front kick)

TKD is the best, hands are to valuable to be used in combat. Plus Kicks are always the most powerful weapon. Even bruce lee admitts that in his book, and no one is better at kicking then TKD.TKD all the way!!!!!

@ChronosNAME0600 the average olympic roundhouse kick generates 700 pounds of pressure, the average tornado kick is about 700 as well, back kicks in the olympics are typically 900-1400 lbs or force, and spin kicks and air kicks like it usually are 500-700 lbs....and in taekwondo, when u go for the head, u go all out, all or nothing, generally why they fall after a miss at a head kick

I agree with you in TKD there isn't any sort of greater defencive moves, it relies on quickness, leg muscles and of course my favorite reflex:D.But in my opinion it is a valorous style that I respect

In a real battle he would defend with hands also, why i think taeqwondo is the best martial art is because kicks= long range, you always have the advantage if you know how to use the legs.

It's because in sparring, you can't really score with your hands, so there's really no point in keeping them up. You basically use your legs for everything.
