  • Gardner power! listen to that noise! nice bit of typical gardner clag as well

  • Yepp, hear that ? Gardner - no drama. Starts very quickly; soon sounding nice and "jangly" :-) Music to my ears ! Unlike noisy old Leylands; snarling, growling and howling, in that hollow, mournful way :-P Miss 'em all :-(

  • @symesjwall The old gardners were always the first to start, so much better than any leyland engine in every aspect

  • Yes, the white smoke is only unburnt fuel becuase of the cold engine. You waited at least a minute before revving it to help it on its way, good stuff. Sounds lovely.

  • Thats a loveley noise!!!

I do miss my bus rides on the VR!!!

  • Are you sure thats a VR & not the BH&D K-Type hehehehe.

  • That's such a good noise!

  • She sounds so beautiful, the VR was one of the best sounding beasts around. I used to own a VRT, ex Plymouth/Isle of Wight bus, and she sounded amazing.

One thing....I hate hearing a cold engine reved!

  • In this case, he did at least let the oil pressure build up before he umm, cleared its throat. I work at first bristol, and back in 1995 we had 150 bristol VR, and 75 olympians all with Gardner LXB engines....all of which were abused daily. They very rarely went bang...

Now, axles and gearboxes are annother matter!

  • Don't Big, Old Diesel's Sound Fantastic!

  • Sweat sounding Bristol!

  • Love that idle sound
