  • way fun! this trip was well worth the travels. i've seen dozens of launches but the spirit was a trip in itself. the only regret i have is never seeing both a night launch and a landing : ( i would have shared my own shaky footage but my crappy iphone took a dump before i could sync(oh well). btw, don't get mad about the retirement of the shuttles just take a look at this..nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/shuttlemissions/sts135/multimedia/gallery/opf2.html

  • I witnessed this from the Causeway viewing area. It was an awesome experience I will remember the rest of my life.

  • if u think a porche sounds good :P

  • I have a lego version on my channel

  • this video is very important to me because i was one of the people that saw discovery blast into orbit FOR THE LAST TIME check my vid of it.

  • i saw this launch on the plane :D

  • Discovery was a good ship I hate to see her retire. Farewell Discovery and we thank you.

  • Now America has to thumb a ride into space from Russia on a piece of their failed lunar mission, Soyuz...

Thanks for letting our last great achievement slide into the toilet, baby boomers.

  • I think I will shed at least one tear during the last launch.

  • I was at the Kenedy Space Center in April 2009, and it was awsome =O

    Discovery YOU ROCK!!!

  • STS had unique capabilities, unlike stop their missions.

  • the 3 dislikers are conspiracy theorists.........

    no offense please!

  • The bottom of the external fuel tank looked red hot, alot of fire between the shuttle and the tank. There was alot going on here, scary launch.Glad it made it home safe!

  • Hopefully my taxes will go down now?? What a waste of money.

  • @bigbob10611 Yep, you will pay 6 cents less a year now.

  • We were there, no big deal.

  • Eric Boe! Go At Thottle Up Chek! Right Way..Dick Scobee Roger,...Go At Thottle Up.

  • Happy retirement you well traveled son-of-a bitch, you made America proud. I cant wait to visit you in the Smithsonian.

  • Thank God it did not blow up this time! Shuttle is by fare the world mosts DANGEROUS rocket EVER created for people to fly in!

  • @ti994apc In thirty years of shuttle missions, there have been two accidents, and one was on re-entry. So, out of 133 launches so far, 132 have been successful. That's a decent safety record.

  • @ti994apc 2 failures in 133 launches. 1.5% rate. Not bad.

  • @ti994apc i don't know about that.....only 2 failures in 133 missions is a pretty damn good record. any rocket is dangerous and i'm pretty sure the Ares I, Early Soyuz, and even the Saturn V's were more dangerous......

  • still 2 left to go :) Hope everything goes as smooth (not taking the range clearance issue at launch into consideration) as with this mission.

  • Goodbye Discovery, and thank you! :')

  • The like button is on the left, not on the right. In 720p 42''HD, best show on earth. Shame. End of an era. Or at the very least the end of big show lauches like this. Awed is the word. As allways.

  • Love you Discovery and will miss these spectacular launches, missions and landings.

  • I watched it live and it was amazing, wish I could be there. This is one of the mankind's greatest achievement. Looking foward to watch reentry!

  • Discovery and the Shuttles may be retiring this year but they are at no means over. Think about what the space shuttle is: simply that, a shuttle to space, where you can bring cargo and people into orbit. This simple fact reaches far as a shuttle is the only design of a spacecraft that we can sustain for cargo and passengers. Expect more space shuttles in the future. New space shuttles.

  • @tlages I think we'll have something new. Probably a single-stage-to-orbit vehicle. I doubt it would be called a shuttle though. The shuttles were extremely expensive to launch and a single stage would be a lot cheaper. I had hoped Venture Star would be it.

  • I was there for the launch. It being my first manned rocket launch, it was almost surreal. Sad that they are going to retire the shuttle. Space travel is one of the best things we do!

  • @Bronkema24

It is the best things we do.

  • to quote the hunt for red october

    "CMON BIG D FLY!"

  • some guy films it from an airplane and gets over 3,000,000 views in the first week.......go figure

  • Goodbye, Discovery

    We Will Miss you

  • Goodbye, Discovery

  • to infinity...AND BEYOND!!

  • They land in the ocean via parachute.. where they are picked up and reused.

  • ...soo, where does the twin rockets land?

  • @TheChocos0 in the ocean

  • @TheChocos0 It usually burns up or sometimes they just calculate it so it will land in the ocean...and dw they dont make it dirty or anything they pick there stuff up

  • @TheChocos0 LOL exactly what i was wondering hahaha!!!

  • @TheChocos0 The solid Rocket boosters land in the Atlantic Ocean were a NASA boats pick them up and tow them back to KSC

  • Bye Bye Space Discoveryx

  • By bye Discovery, thanks for the ride.............

  • martin

  • mauro

  • lol

  • Every time I watch these launches, I'm reminded of what we are capable of as a nation. Hopefully, SpaceX will have their Falcon 9 rockets and Dragon capsule in working order soon so we won't have to get a lift from the Russians.

  • Power. absolute power. awesome.

  • We will never forget you Discovery

  • A swimming pool of fuel burned within 25 seconds ?!?!?

  • I saw this. :D

  • Thank You Discovery

  • Alas - and now we have to hitchhike with the Russians or whoever can go into space. Wow – wow. Think I'll go cry.

  • Down with Obama.

  • i'm gonna miss the shuttle, i heard nasa's doing back to those saturn v type of rockets

  • I want to die and see what happens.

  • A wonderful space shuttle and its a sad last mission. Keep safe all those on board.

  • Discovery is my favourite sapce shuttle,i'm very sad because this is the final voyage for the vehicle......:(:(:(:(=(this is the most responsible shuttle=(

  • What's the CO2-emission on a vehicle like this?

  • @codeweldsweden It uses super cooled Hydrogen gas (basically a liquid then).

  • @codeweldsweden out of the SSME's or the SRB's? Because all you get out of the SSME's are H2O vapor

  • Let's give NASA all the welfare money.

  • so long old friend.. it was a great era

  • Discovery now making one last reach for the stars!

  • @PaleRider626

0.1% of the governments money = NASA. (and cool shit as shown in the video)

~12% of the governments money = welfare.

    Statistics don't lie

  • I must say, that I was very tense throughout this whole launch yesterday, considering all of the problems that Discovery had. I don't think I took a real breath until they got up into orbit! Thank the gods that the launch went so beautifully. :)

  • I wonder which museum it will end up at.

  • a perfect climb out, riding to space like a homesick angel :D

  • I like the different camera's views.

  • they should at least keep discovery my favorite =(

  • So long old friend! Good to know ya went out with a BANG!!

  • It was beautiful weather today. Just a slight, cool breeze and blue sky with some wisps of clouds. Just standing there at the top of the bridge over the intercoastal watching it go and thinking only two left and it's over. Hopefully, enough will ask, "What next," and someone will answer, "Let us show you." It's so sad NASA has to be such a victim of idiotic politicians.

  • @mycroft791

yes it was wonderful. i was on the bridge wit my nephew and niece as well. to inner city kids with no concept of why they should stay in school. as the shuttle went up i told them if they apply themselves one day may be they could do something great like that.

  • Yay, go for main engines start ! It was awesome ! Hope the HD version will be out soon :)

  • Last Time Baby!

    Discovery Tribute, Never forget!

    Godspeed and Good Luck!

  • tres beau lancement, c est toujours aussi imprèssionant !

  • 1 person needed the Robonaut to smack them in the face for disliking this awesome video! : )

  • I've been waiting 4 months to see this launch. It was supposed to launch on the 2nd of November last year. It's sad that it's Discovery's last flight though.

  • im gona miss the shuttle, well at least there are two more missions with Endeavor and Atlantis doing the last one

  • Godspeed, Discovery.

  • Godspeed, Discovery.

  • I dislike the end of this era.

  • @ajpnphoto Me too. :-(

  • @ajpnphoto So let's work to keep it going. Please, just sign here, the entire statement is there for you to read, it's a petition to keep our space program going, and raise NASA's budget from the current LESS THAN HALF OF ONE PERCENT to a modest 2% of federal spending.

    worldwideweb (dot) petitiononline (dot) c o m (slash) afhios (slash) petition (dot) h t m l

It's small now, but they all have to start somewhere. Grow it - one signature at a time, it can make a difference with some cooperation.

  • @ajpnphoto What do you mean?

  • @ajpnphoto 100%
