  • Audie Murphy was a legend and Irish American what would america have achieved without Irish going over there. Loved the video always loved Audie the legend.tk

  • Audie Murphy is a great American hero.

  • He was American born but of Irish ancestry. Makes me proud that an Irishman fought so tenaciously to stop the Armies of Darkness overruning the world in 1939-45

  • He was too cute to be a good guy. It would've been much better since he was so cute and boyish and a national hero to make him into an evil villain at in the movies

  • If you ever get into a debate with your friends about who the toughest actor in Hollywood history is, you just saw him.

    Great tribute Basil, well done.

  • He had an extrordinary/tormented life. Raised dirt poor he watched his ill mother die. Orphaned, the state had to seperate his family. He was rejected by the navy and entered the army underweight. His service record is the stuff of legend. After losing close friends he was badly wounded. Postwar he was an actor but Hollywood never took him serioulsy despite his success. He suffered war related nightmares and had a gambling problem until he died in a 1971 plane crash in Virginia at age 46.

  • I think Audie is absolutely "Gorgeous" I have loved him since I first saw him when I was a teenager. And I still have a crush on him even today at age 56yrs. I was so sad when he died. But Still Have his picture next to my computer, He is SO handsome!!........ Patricia

  • To my beloved fellow Texan, RIP /o

  • Audi was a classic action seeking warrior who demonstrated

unthinkably brave acts of courage that would

shatter even the most disciplined Nazi soldiers, he fired an Browning

MG on top of a burning vehicle, he tricked larger units into surrender,

he went on a rampage with an MG 42 and called in some of the best artillery strikes.

To top it off he kept fighting while infected with MALARIA, Audi Murphy uber alles

  • He was the most decorated soilder

  • Pamela Murphy, widow of WWII hero and actor, Audie Murphy, died peacefully at her home on April 8, 2010. She was the widow of the most decorated WWII hero and actor, Audie Murphy, and established her own distinctive 35 year career working as a patient liaison at the Sepulveda Veterans Administration hospital, treating every veteran who visited the facility as if they were a VIP.

She remained working full time at the VA until 2007 when she was 87.

  • My father was born in Farmersville, TX and fought in WWII. A couple of weeks ago my dad participated in the Audie Murphy Day parade in Farmersville. This year, unlike previous years, there was no military flyover. "Pentagon cut-backs" was the excuse. Last weekend we attended a similar tribute in Greenville, TX at the Audie Murphy Museum, and I told the museum's director that Obama would have detested a hero such as Audie.. love of country is a concept alien to the alien in the White House.

  • Am I the only one who seems alarmed at the number of views (or lack of views) on all Audie Murphy videos on you tube? Not one breaks 100,000. I mean This is Audie F_ _ _ing Murphy. Real heros are always forgotten. God bless Audie Murphy.

  • @mindeloman well its youtube, and America is not exactly a country that celebrates warriors, this ain't Asia now, American heroes are Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga, i have studied American culture as a child up to now, they're very easy to read.

  • Another great thing about murphy was he always downplayed his medals; he said thousands of soldiers who deserved medals but never got them were left dead on the battlefields.

  • @frank47hammer An interesting fact is that every other (I think every) gravestone of recipients of the Medal of Honor have gold stars, while Audie's does not. the family issued a statement saying that this was because he was always so humble, and would not want them.

  • @ninjakiwi65 Yes, was he was a very humble man. He once said about his acting that he was working with a handicap: "no talent."

  • @frank47hammer It's funny when you think about it because he was an amazing actor; he starred in several western movies and then his own documentary. Not to mention he did very well in those.

  • @ninjakiwi65 My favorite of his was "No Name on the Bullet." And The Red Badge of Courage.

  • hm... okay thankx, bro.

  • I love that Western type song... bro... what's the name... its fits good with this video.

  • @NeilThe83 The title of the track is 'The Ecstasy of Gold' and is played by Hugo Montegro and his Orchestra.

  • @basilnelson I mean the one at around 1:13... that's Ectasy of Gold as you say, right?

  • @NeilThe83 That is correct my friend.

  • @basilnelson

Actually it's "Ecstasy of Gold" composed and played by Ennio Morricone from Sergio Leone's OST for "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly" movie.

  • also he is my great uncle

  • lier audie murphy never had any kids

  • @levi1136 Audie Murphy did have children two boys Terry micheal murphy and james shannon murphy look it up obvisouly you no very little about Audie but Audies children never had any kids

  • im 14 and i was just told that he was my great granpa a year ago, its pretty cool learning about him

  • one of my favorite actors and the finest soldier for all time. love him and miss him.

  • His best film is "The Quiet American"

  • Very nice. It almost brought tears to my eyes.

  • Audie Murphy is the most decorated soldier in American History! Why do all the good die young?

  • @Wildkkat1: Actually, my understanding is that the great Polish-American, Matt Urban, is the most decorated soldier in American history. Look him up on google and see for yourself .

  • @TheBeerNut1: Murphy had 7 awards from France and Belgium in 27 months of combat. David Hackworth and Matt Urban after Vietnam. Special Forces did not publish much info. because a lot of missions were covert. The fact is the service that all of our military folks put their lives on the line for our country, makes us proud and we should all be grateful!

  • @Wildkkat1 : I meant to write that Matt Urban was the most decorated soldier during WWII. David Hackworth took part in WWII (1945), Korean War and Vietnam........according to WIKI.

  • @TheBeerNut1 It is my understanding that Audie L. Murphy, if you count the awards from the other countries that decorated him, was the most decorated soldier of WWII. He was a crack shot and was credited for dispatching 275 enemy soldiers. Awards for heroism beyond the call of duty aka ( Silver Star, CMH, etc. ) Is what they called most decorated.

  • @Wildkkat1 yep

  • In a day when the Hollywood "greats" can't seem to do enough to dishonor our Military, and this our Great Nation of the United States of America, here we have a most humble and gracious TRUE HERO, A TRUE GREAT, honoring our Armed forces with his VALOR!

What a marvelous photographic compilation of Audie Murphy's life! Thank you, basilnelson, for posting this tribute!!

  • Funny how boyishly handsome Audie was--not at all the Hollywood stereotype (John Wayne, etc.) of the bold war hero. He became a very credible actor too, indicating that he took on every challenge with gusto and courage.

  • To sign a Petition requesting that Audie Murphy be posthumously bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom go to Google and type in "Audie Murphy Medal of Freedom" to get to the site.

    Audie Murphy deserves this recongnition.

    Thanks

    Dave

  • SALUDOS.....AUDIE FUE,MAS BIEN ES UNO DE MIS GRANDES ARTISTAS QUE ADMIRE Y A LA VEZ LO SIGO ADMIRANDO. YO ME DI CUENTA YA ESTANDO ( YO MAYOR) GRANDE QUE EL ERA UN GRAN HEROE DE LA SEGUNDA GRERRA MUNDIAL., Y TUBO FANS, SIEMPRE VIVIRA EN EL RECUERDO.Sinceramente etorimani1 desde EL SALVADOR CENTRO AMERICA. 16.09.09 GRACIAS MUCHAS GRACIAS .

  • Audie Murphy .................UnPitt

  • British Army Sergeant majors use the line ' YEW ...WHOOOO DOOO YOOOO THINK YOOOO ARE????? AUDIE BLOODY MURPHY????" Thats when you pull a doozy spectacular out of the ord move. LOL He was great.... was Audie Murphy.

  • I saw combat as an infantryman in the 1st year of the Korean War. Anybody who has actually experienced it will be blown away by Audie Murphy. He was absolutely incredible.

  • actually he was 5'7 and weighed 145 when he left the military...

He grew during his time of service.

  • This guy was 5'5'' and weighed 110 pounds, which makes him even more of a badass.

  • In New Zealand we had a guy called Charles Upham.

He won the Victoria Cross twice in WW2. The only combat soldier in the history of the British Commonwealth to do so (2 others won 2 VC's. They were both medical doctors).

I would have loved to see him and Murphy having a chat about their experiences.

America should be very proud of all the guys that served. You saved our arses!!

  • Whilst both men did such brave acts.. i doubt they'd ever want to talk about it.. true heroes are entirely selfless.. and most of the time don't believe they've even done that much. Its sad that such men have to go through so much. Especially in a time where Post traumatic stress disorder was not recognised as a real problem. Both cases deserve the highest respect! And should be remembered through the ages.

  • That's true. I know that Audie Murphy struggled to deal with his PTSD (they didn't have a name for it then). Upham became a bit of a recluse, staying on his isolated farm.

But I disagree that they wouldn't have wanted to speak together.

In fact, the ONLY people they wanted to speak to about their experiences were guys who had been through the same thing - people who had 'seen the elephant', as they say.

  • kiwi. The Medal of Honor could only be won once in WW2 and later. It is true that some won two Medals of Honor, but this was in the 19th Century. The VC is probably equal to the Medal of Honor.

  • Really? I didn't know that. I do know that there was a huge debate about wether to award the VC twice in WW2. It went all the way to the King before it was approved. Upham was probably eligable for a THIRD VC, but that would have been perceived as rather 'over egging the pudding'.

  • U.S. Marines Dan Daly and Smedley Butler both received two MOH.

  • I am only 31 years old but Audie is someone who I wish I could've met. Even some of us youngan's appreciate Audie.Murphy. He is one of my heros along with my Dad and Dale Earnhardt. I hope to visit his grave at Arlington someday.

  • I was born in 1945 and Audie as my hero when I was growing up and you know what? He still is. I give this every star in the universe. Thumbs up for sure. Good job and Well Done. Thanks

  • James Cagney took a personal interest and helped A. Murphy a lot. I've seen over 2500 westerns and think Audie does a pretty damn good job for someone without any background in acting. I read Murphy had 240 German soldier recorded kills in WWII...

  • Interesting guy. I wonder if he met Major Winters of Easy Company. Winters was the most famous soldier of WW2. I do admire Murphy too. I don't think he fought as Bastogne or any of the other Band of Brothers battles.

  • Comment removed

  • Most famous? I hope you are not serious.

Audie Murphy was world renown for being the most decorated american soldier of all time. Mjr. Winters was brought to light by BOB, or if you read history you knew who he was, but to sompare the two is not even remotely close. You ask if they knew each other or fought the same battles? I guess they do not teach history in schools any longer.

  • Mr. Winters was a very humble hero. He himself would never have compared his own exploits to those of Mr. Murphy. And the truth is, they were not even close.

  • Winters isn't the most famous, Maj. Murphy is. They are both amazing men and to of my hero's I greatly respect them both. I've read Band Of Brothers, but not to hell and back(but I have seen the movie).

  • I wouldn't give a hill of beans to be no fancy pants marine. I'm just a dogface soldier with a rifle on my shoulder.

  • thx4post...I admire this Hero and all his movies. He has a tribute website too. He's the only American to receive the purple heart or something to that affect. I will try to correct myself and find his site.

  • You're incorrect about him being the only recipient of the Purple Heart. But your intent came thru... he was a real hero. Audie received every award for heroism the US had available at the time, and was decorated by France and Belgium as well. He went on to make some 40 movies, and wrote songs recorded by many major Country and Western stars. Sadly, a plane crash cut short his time with us. His grave at Arlington is the most visited after JFK's.

  • Rock Of The Marne.

  • the mnost georgious actor that ever was. i have always loved him and will continue to do so. pity there is not much more information on his private life. did he ever marry or have a family?

  • Check out IMDB He had two sons. His wife and he split over his post war trauma which she could not bare. She attended his funeral. IT is said she openly wept.

  • he also wrote the song shutters and boards

  • This man was a legend to me when i was a young boy i loved his films. But i am completely shocked wow this guy was an amazing soldier highly decorated. What i have just read totally knocked me out. What a hero what a man, and what a tragedy that he died in a plane crash.

  • Audie was one of the greatest!!!!!

  • I always loved his movies and story. When I was a little girl, He was my American Hero. I wish more people would remember him..

  • This tribute makes me feel so patriotic and proud that somebody like Audie Murphy was fighting for our country. I can't believe he received 24 medals!

  • Great Hero, Great American! Thank You.

  • Reading these comments it warms my heart to see that so many remember this hero.

  • 0:25.. RICK ASTLEY...!!!!

  • Superb -

  • Love this video. Audie Murphy was my childhood hero and I have an extensive Audie Murphy collection, to include lots of his personal items.

Additionally, we have a soon to be 3 year old who is named Audie Murphy Phillips.

Great Vid to a true American Patriot and hero, whom sadly, the country has almost forgotten.

  • Thank you. I agree that it is important to continue the memory of a great Star and a true Hero.

  • @basilnelson hmm, i would prefer to remember him as a true american hero who was also a star of hollywood movies. i small difference in word placement, but a huge difference in it's meaning and implication.

  • @Audiesdaddy i wish I had thought to name my son Audie Murphy.

  • An incredible, decent, humble hero. We need more people like Audie today.

  • Audie was a great War Hero, and a teriffic actor, but the dumb Movie Studio people always stuck him in "B" Westerns, I liked all of them but he should have been treated better. I have a Record album and all the songs were written by Audie, It is the only vinyl album I kept when I converted my records to CD. I copied the music to Cd but I will always keep the album. I always wondered if Audie ever sang, since he was a Songwriter.

  • I first learned about Audie Murphy at my church. The Assembly of God church has a program called Royal Ranger and our commander often tied our bible study in with an Audie Murphy story.

  • I love Audie Murphy...the coolest thing about him though...when you saw him in the movies as a tough guy, as the quiet man driven to action, as a killer...you knew he was the real deal! He was all of those things and so much more!

He was not like most of the pussies today who act in movies and don't know the muzzle from the stock of a firearm!!!

The saddest thing is that when he was killed...I understand that he died relatively poor and unknown. Terrible

A terrible end for a real man and hero!!!

  • thank you for this. My late dad named me after Audie after going through basic with him.

  • It's great to hear of your personal connection with this renowned Star. You must be very proud. Glad you enjoyed the video.

  • Audie Murphy was a real man, a man's man. He is my favorite movie star of all time. I have almost all of his movies on VHS. We need more men like him today. We have too many sissy men today. We need more Audie Murphys. I've been a huge fan of him for the past 13 years, and I wrote to one of his sons, and he sent me a picture of Audie, which I still have. I even went around several years ago petitioning to have a commemorative postage stamp of him, which he now has. He was a great man and actor.

  • Is this where Ricky Nelson perhaps got his 'cool' from. The greatest cowboy (after Mr Scott of course). A very underrated movie star. IMHO. Why can I only get two of his dvds in the UK. The States has many more of AM, Mr Scott (and C Bronson). When are these studios going to start putting out the back catalogue on dvd for the UK, does anybody know. We do not want any more John Wayne dvds thank you (he was good but we have enough) ?

  • Audie Murphy, fragile looking, shy, and soft-spoken with a boyish appearance. Starred in 44 films, successful country songwriter, and rancher who raised Thoroughbred and Quarter race horses. Fondly, Hedda

  • knowing his faults, he is still one of the few men that I have an everlasting respect and admiration for. Thank you Lt. Murphy

  • Jerseydogs They dont care anymore, My father was killed a few months before I was born, youtube, diving u boat 218

  • My father first told me about Audie Murphy when I was a kid watching TV at my Grandmother's house. My dad was in WWII and asked if I knew who the actor was. I said no, and he told me "That's Audie Murphy, the most decorated soldier in WWII". As I get older I appreciate more the sacrifices these soldier's made for us. We need to teach the younger generation about these heroes so they appreciate what we have.

  • I am proud that I was one of those who campaigned to have Audie honored with a stamp from the Country he served so well in war times. The U.S. Post Office honored Audie as well as other war heroes like World War I's Sergeant Alvin York. :)

  • He's been my hero since I first saw him in Westerns on reruns as a little girl-imagine my delight as a teen to discover that he was indeed a true-life war hero. The most decorated in his country's history. :)

  • super excellent

  • a very nice tribute to Audie.A great man,a real hero and a super actor. He is missed.God Bless you Audie, I know you are at peace.

  • hes cool...my great great great grandparents were his grandparents in Ireland

  • Great tribute - wonderful post.

  • Corrr, he's the only man i would have commited adultry for. He had it all, looks, charisma, the bleeding lot. oooohhhh

  • A great guy

  • Well done. A true American hero.

  • He used to spend a few weeks in the summer in my hometown(Ruidoso, New Mexico)in the mid 1950's. He rented a cabin down the river from our house. I was in hog heaven.

  • Audie had great presence, and charisma on screen, he should have been starring in "A" Westerns instead of all the "B" movies they put him in, he was underrated. He had good looks and a great voice and could ride like the wind. He was truly a hero. I salute him In my teens I couldn't wait for the next Audie Murphy Movie to come to town.

    barrygio1 from Canada.

  • The Most decorated American Soldier of World War Two, and great actor (I loved his westerns).

A real hero we can be all proud of like we are of all our veterans.

  • Audie Murphy is one of my personal heros. I like going to Dovie's, which is a restaurant in Addison, TX which was once his personal estate. As a fellow Texan, I've always admired him and his fellow soldiers, just as brave as he, who did not make it back home. Even though he had some issues in later life, this only makes him more human and representative of the American spirit.

  • Great Tribute, he has always been my favorite actor, thankyou for posting it.

  • It's hard to belive in such a hero today. But he was real and even in small mesure his acting was there for people to see pure and simple, and honest as courage.

  • I can't imagine the suffering he had from his time in service.. , but , all my family served, and it is not hollywood.. my god, what he must have suffered after the war.. as my 6 uncle's and, 2 great uncle's in ww2..

  • awesome picture of audie and james two ww2 vets.. but the music on mute only....

    ... .

  • Just watched him again in "The Unforgiven" last week on VHS.

    WOW.

He brought a lot of personal pain into his better roles, and in this one he was blessed with a great supporting ensemble and a fine director.

  • CORRECTION: The most decorated soldier in the U.S.A'S Army in WW2. As an Englishman I salute him. Each Country constituting the Allies in WW2 had its great Heroes.

  • Nice Tribute

I have about eight of his films on dvd and there all very entertaining.

I go along with the view that he was a better actor than he was ever given credit.

  • I remember vividly watching TV seeing him

in various western and action movies` he

had a perfect look for certain roles. Perhaps

he became type cast` but he had a special

Energy all his own. Truly a Legend.

Thanks Baz Music is very befitting!

    Pierre
