  • ...and... is it easy to bend?

  • Nice show! Is the bridge tunable? Is the string action possibly to set lower? Does it stay in tune? What is the scale length?

  • the action can be set how ever you like i have had mine for three years almost four and i have played gibsons and fender but this guitar is the best in the world to me you should get one you wont regret it :)

  • I admit it, I'm here because of page. How is the action on the guitar. I do like the tone of the guitar though. Especially with the switch up.

  • okay, play it already!

  • I BEEN FLYING...NO DENYING...

  • @iamjustachineseguy yeah, there's no denying, most of us are here because of Jimmy Page xD

  • Very helpful review. Thank you.

  • nice guitar...just play

  • play kashmir

  • "Aloominium"...I love English accents! :D

  • insted of makeing the brige higher make the neck pick-up lower

  • Nice review; very helpful. Thanks for posting, and nice playing!

  • got mine this morning...first impressions

    very strange

    it's definitely a cheapy but it's very endearing.due to it's uniqueness...

it does'nt let you get away with mistakes much and the neck is a tad thicker than usual, but once you get used to it it's loads of fun.

and as he says overdrive doesn't go down too well but that does'nt matter because i play punk...

  • just has a more mysterious clean tone on this

  • in the middle position the pickups are wired in series ( one into the other) intentionally by Danelectro which is why the middle position of the toggle switch gives a louder output.

  • dude what's that song you start playing at 2:55 ????? it's driving me mad!

    \

  • @fenderlover99 Its the intro from ten years gone by led zeppelin.

  • @fenderlover99 "ten years gone"

  • @fenderlover99 Maybe you've figured it out in three months but the answer is Led Zeppelin's Ten Years Gone. Page used a Danelectro 59 on a number of songs like this, White Summer and In My Time of Dying (possibly others like When the Levee Breaks as well).

  • what amp you use?great tone

  • I'd get a Danelctro 50 DC reissue if they went for the $99 that they are worth. However, for the $350 they sell for in the U.S., I wouldn't consider it. You can get a lot more guitar that that for $350 nowadays... Thanks, China!

  • i want one

  • led zeppelin 10 years gone yay. zeppelin ftw. greatest band ever

  • what kind of pickups are that?

  • @eduardo0796 i believe their called lipstick pickups

  • good review. gave me a really good idea of what this gtr sounds like. thanks.

  • does anyone know to change the goddamn string on this guitar?

  • I'm thinking about getting this guitar, would you recommend it for 60's rock?

  • @scotplane These are perfect for 60's rock. That's what they're most associated with too.

  • Thanks for the demo. I want one because Syd Barrett played one at the UFO.

  • Awesome video, great guitar, im thinking about buying one of these. Might sell my Fender mexican strat, I prefer this guitar.

  • Nice guitar, I just picked up a DC-3, I noticed that the pickups are quite noisy.

Ever have that problem with yours?

I think that the pick - up cavity might not be shielded.

  • @hakkerxxx , No noise from the pickups really nothin more than you expect to get with cheap single coils

  • @jaydee600 What is the action like?

  • You get a lot of noise from these pickups?

  • Coming from east london, i don't get the whole accent thing. Great demo though mate.

  • 2.55 ten years gone

  • Some people talk to much on demos. Your accent makes this a WIN.

  • May I just say, I respect what the man has to say about his guitar, If you don't "smadonna89" go somewere else.

  • @smadonna89 And a merry christmas to you too !!

  • @smadonna89 Kid... cant you be polite? noone forced you to watch this video... guy talks about his guitar and he is proud of it... 100 573 views say that he doesnt need comments like yours... go to your room and learn to control your filthy mouth before coming to youtube next time... BTW nice guitar! and playing!

  • @tkudelj1 very well put thanx

  • @tkudelj1 very well put thanx

  • @smadonna89 Hey nut job. Click on another video if hes talking too much. jaydee600-Nice review.

  • @nickyfzr cheers mate , yes I think the guy needs to get laid :)

  • i want it!!!

  • I am going to fuzz the crap out of that guitar o.O

  • is it semi acoustic ?

  • I've tried it with a Big Muff Pi set on 11 and this thing rocked like a monkey. I do agree the pickups are a bit weak, but just put more fuzz/distortion into the signal and it'll sound great.

  • how much did u pay for it

  • Why dont you cut of the remaining strings on the head, it gets scrathed by what your are doing there... :)

  • you said aluminum wrong

  • @biochemisttriple9 its said like that in the UK and Ireland

  • At i guess i would say the Reissue means Danelectro are making guitars again but Nathan passed away a long time ago...

I'm Reverend Pickles, i'm the owner and protector of the first amplifier Nathan ever made.

enjoyed the video my friend, you take care now

    REV.I.Pickles

  • i think the two pickups may be wired in series in the middle position (vs fenders, etc which mostly use parallel wiring)--that would result in the volume discrepancy that you were mentioning, as the signals from the two pickups would constructively interfere, sort of like in a humbucker. which would also explain the sort of bass boost you mentioned.

i'm not sure, but i'm pretty sure that's what's going on--dano often does that w/ their guitars.

  • They must have changed it a bit since i bought the 59-DC reissue. Mine has the rosewood/chrome bridge and the cable input is in the front. Both of which are the same as the original. question is where Can i find a new double stack potentiometer and know set. the entire thing got jacked up on me and I cannot find a replacement for the life of me. However, This guitar has a unique sound and to be honest is a great guitar as basic as it is.

  • wow i left at 1:40 just talking..... i hope it sounded good.

  • @LesediLoFi You can skip....

  • Just bought me one of these, cheap as chips too! Your vid put a smile on my face mate, nice one! What amp you using there?

  • what the hell, all of em I've seen have the plug in in the front, I like it better on this one but cant find any...

  • great video mate

  • what about syd barret?

  • ... Aluminium nut

  • I just ordered one from ebay exactly like yours. Unfortunately I realized after that Jimmy Page's had white nobs....

  • 05:42 Back In Black :)

  • beautiful great sounding & simple configuration, small, light classic vintage guitar! =0]

  • Cool guitar. What music is at 5:03 ?

  • @TheKaiserChamp Are u kidding me? It is Rush- Limelight.

  • @TheKaiserChamp a kind of poor virsion of limelight by rush

  • What song is that around 2:56?

  • Hi its ten years gone by led zep

  • @jaydee600 Lol duh, thanks man, can't believe I forgot that one...

  • you sound a bit like rodney from only fools and horses (:

  • do u recomend (bad spelling) one? cuz i realy always wanted one becuz of Beck and Jimmy Page, but now theyre on sale at musiciansfriend and im really considering it

  • where are you from? im wondering what accent you have lol

  • @OMGxHAX south london

  • nice pick scrape

  • You talk like the little big planet guy

  • You talk like the little big planet guy

  • JUST SHUT UP AND PLAY !!

  • @mask57000 shut up and listen! :)

  • @jaydee600 you win ;)

  • All Danelectros are wired in series as opposed to parallel so that the middle position is meant as a lead boost. It's supposed to be louder.

  • 2:55 where is this riff from, im sure i heard it in it might get loud

  • @jonathanatack its Ten years gone

  • @jonathanatack great movie!

  • I used a 10mm wood drill bit to drill three shallow holes in a line, in the body below the neck pocket, just big enough to get the allen key/wrench in to adjust the truss rod. Now I can adjust it without loosening the neck, I just have to make a nice little truss rod cover for it! Go to FAQS at DANGUITARS fullstop COM for correct measurements for set up.

  • I`ve just bought a 12 string version of this guitar, the strings were a mile from the fretboard, after slackening the strings and loosening the neck i found that the truss rod was`nt adjusted, it was completely slack! Also the neck pocket was really rough and had wood slivers in it to adjust the neck pitch ( I find that metal washers do a better job) so after sanding the neck pocket slightly and tightening the truss rod , things were much better. sounded better too!

  • Hmmm...

How is it to live without an ajustable truss rod?

This is the only question that keeps me from purchasing this axe.

  • @NowJustSue The guitar in this video is a new 2010 reissue; I've got a 1999 reissue, and you can adjust the truss rod on that guitar, unfortunately you have to remove the neck from the guitar to do it. That aside, i've never had problems with mine (which i bought used) and LOVE the guitar. If you're primarily an acoustic player and want to get into electric, Dano is the way to go.

  • Very helpful review. Thanks man.

  • the change of volume is because you raised too much the bridge pickup!

  • what is better? The Dano Pro or the DC59

  • dude can u plz tell me how i can talk like u

i wanna be british so baaaaaad :(

  • the truss rod is a bitch to set on danos, i own this guitar and i'm having a hard time with the action and intonation...

  • you guitar has no problem on volume,

you have just put the pickup on the STRINGS!

  • when you say it doesn't respond well to overdrive, do you mean that you need to roll the gain up more than usual? if anyone knows the answer, please let me know.

  • @foolintherain100 what i mean is , the pick ups don't overdrive that well , there quite weak

  • @jaydee600 how hot are the pickups?like 6.5k ohm?

  • @jaydee600 maybe you should get a boost pedal

  • Nice demo. I like your accent and the Zeppelin playing. I'm interested in these guitars. Been thinking about maybe getting one.

  • ten years gone

  • what a cool british accent! i love danelectro! Great stuff!

  • you should cover a beatles song that would be nice

  • british

  • haha i knew he was a Zeppelin fan!

  • aluminium

  • I always find it strange because it's so different from how I pronounce it here, but at the same time I love it.

  • and in my time of dying live

  • Syd Barrett's Guitar

  • i bet that guitar would sound amazing as a slide guitar.

  • jimmy page used it as a slide guitar live sometimes...

  • hey sounds flippin fabulous. I'd be interested to hear some country/delta blues type sounds on it. thanks

  • Your accent FTW

  • sounds little like Liam Gallagher :)

  • @heyyoitsme123321

Thanks! (it's not me in the vid, but i'm English. Haha)

  • @heyyoitsme123321

    What accent? London?

  • Saw an original '59 original Danelectro refurbished sitting in a music shop about 15 years ago going for $275 U.S. I could kick myself in the bottom for not buying it seeing as how I had the money at the time.

  • I use a Danelectro Distortion pedal as a volume boost

turn the pre-amp all the way up and then turn the distortion up so that it is louder but you dont get much distort.

    good for solo's

  • is the 12 string any good?

ill have to get one but but i think that it only has 6 saddles. if so any1 know where i can get a 12 saddle plate that would match?

  • @metalhead4596 play one. If you like the way it looks, plays, and sounds, then that should tell you if you should buy one not the price.

  • thanks...I'm thinking of getting one of these, and your review was very helpful.

  • He he

    Aluminium

  • i really want one, but jimi page used to have one... i hate that, makes me feel liek others think i onyl bought it cos i admire page, which i dotn realy. how pathetic is that

  • I just fell in love.

  • "errrm"

  • I love your accent.

  • Brummy! :p

  • he doesnt have an accent , its you americans have an accent cause the language is actually called "english"

  • Comment removed

  • @timurlikir yeah but you still have reigonal accents...anyone speaking any language has an accent...northern accent, cockney, american accent...irish...scotish...

    duh.....

  • you talk rubbish

  • @timurlikir no you just dont have the cognitive capacity to understand my rather simple statement....

  • Comment removed

  • Dude, stop being a douchebag.

  • your saying that english people don`t have english accents, it depends where you are, if people are saying the same words but it sounds different, its an accent.

  • God it's ugly ):

  • You must be blind mate!

  • If you go on guitar center's site they have this guitar in a cool Psychedelic paint job from the 60's style!!!

  • Play White Summer then go into Kashmir! Hahaha for an encore-In My Time Of Dying!!!

  • I had one of those for a little while and I loved it. Definitely plan to get another - they are coming out with new reissues of this model this month.

  • Yes but the new 3rd reissues are dodgy.

D.E. now know people buy these because of Jimmy Page (I prefer Barrett myself) so they're doing a 'Non Signature' Page edition.

Trouble is, these things are NOT like Pages at all. They even have bloody IVORY tuning pegs for christs sake which Page did not have and I'm sure is illegal.

They;re selling them for about 500 dollars so I'd steer well clear of them.

The 2nd reissue like the one here is the one you want, or better still, a circa 59-69.

  • Best review i'v seen in weeks

Nice to know somebody on here actually makes some sense!

    Cheers, Mr headless Man

  • Got mine last week, it rocks!! Bye bye stratocaster!

  • British accent is awesome!

  • i would kill for a british accent (american)

  • No as good as it sounds. (British)

  • I own a Gibson LP Custom, Fender Am Deluxe Fat Strat w/t Locking Tremolo, Fender Telecaster 60' Classic (Japan)... And I bought the same Danelectro 2 weeks ago (180 pounds on Denmark St), and I think it gives a good portion to competetion to everything I have already in terms of vibe, price and, believe it or not, sound.

  • I NEED to know where I can buy one of these guitars! I have not been able to find any anywhere! Please help!

  • I'm really thinking about buying this guitar.

I work at a record store, and everytime I'm finished with working, I walk past a vintage store. I always look through the window to see a nice Danelectro dc 59 reissue, just hanging there. It's a real reissue, so with the non-adjustable bridge made of rosewood. I always thought the guitar there was black, but when I walked in yesterday, and played it a bit, I saw it was a very dark purple sparkle. Odd colour, but very cool!

    It's around 300 euro. :)

  • They are BOTH real re-issues.

The latest version has the adjustable bridge and a different headstock, thats the main difference but the adjustable bridge is actually a welcome one.

Theirs little difference regarding how they perform so whether its the 1st or 2nd re-issue, it makes little difference.

They're not like fender 'Squire', theres no LC version so to speak, just slight differences.

  • They are ALL REAL reissues.

1st one (1997) which is the one you're looking at,then the 2nd reissue, which is the one in this video (2007).

    The main differences are.......

    1. 2nd has tunable bridge (far better than original)

    2. 2nd has tighter wound pickups. Slightly warmer tone though can be adjusted.

    3. 2nd has a slightly different headstock.

    4. 2nd made in China, 1st reissue made in Korea.

    5. Different knobs and tuning pegs.

Horses for courses, both are great.

  • I know they're both real reissues, but what I meant was that the 1st one is more like the real deal back in 59'.

I finally bought the purple sparkle dc 59. It instanly became my favorite guitar.. Wow, what a smooth and comfortable neck! And the sound! I can just listen to it for hours.

The price/quality ratio is great. You're not likely to get another guitar this smooth and nice for the same price (expect if it's another Danelectro :D)

  • By the way: The reissue I've bought wasn't made in Korea, but in Indonesia. (It says on the back of the 'Coke-bottle' style headstock)

  • Yes, my bad, some were made in Indonesia as well as Korea whereas all the 2nd reissues were made in China. Cheers.

  • I think it's unfair to say "because of Page". Many more played these as well. Are the knobs Bakelite? Are the pickups actual lipstick tubes?

  • The main seller IS Page, which is why he is the 1st to be mentioned for all adds and promo's for these guitars.,even though MANY have used them.

Knobs were bakelite, but are not now.

Lipstick tubes were used originally and these are now copies of the original lipstick tubes.

    GREAT guitars.

  • @12stringsforme yes that true , but page was probably the most well known and prominent dano user . he's why I got one !

  • @jaydee600 Syd Barret was probably the most known for it.

  • @jaydee600 syd Barrett played the danelectro too e.g. interstellar Overdrive

  • @jaydee600 i would consider syd barrett to be a bit more well known, considering pink floyd was the most commercially successful rock band of all time.

  • @worldindusa I think it may be that Syd "should" be a bit more well known. Too many people only think of Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and the Wall as Pink Floyd. It's a real shame.

  • @Shplackaplow Your right mate! People should respect Syd more!
