  • ccooooool , thks.

  • 6:16 when he is placing the bucket on the table, that sound gives me chills.. what a horrible sound..!

  • Very helpful videos. Thank you so much for taking the time to assist others.

  • awesome videos! very eloquent and erudite.

plus, the speaker reminds me of what Humphrey Bogart and Peter Lorre's bastard child would look like

  • @103213able I usually get Nicholas Cage, but I'll take that.

  • @chasnsx Haha, I totally hear that

  • so you don't cut the roots? I read in many books that it's better to do it, what do you think about this? awesome tree anyway!

  • @theanswer00 You only cut the roots if it is necessary to fit the tree into the pot. In a situation such as this, where a lot of growth is needed, and surface rootage needs to be improved, and the rootball is small, you do not cut the roots.

  • Where do you live ?

(Winter time)- Do you bring in the plants under 40 degrees ?

  • @drychalice I live in an inland part of Southern California, and we get winter temps as low as the high 20s' sometimes. My house is poorly insulated, so in winter I move the tropical trees in next to the house, and they are kept warm by the heat leaking out of the house at night.

  • who video tapes ur son

  • My wife, actually. She's Japanese/Filipino, and she owns the ficus, bouganvillea and other tropical bonsais that I work on. The pines and junipers are mine.

  • What is the soil mixture that you used on this?

  • I used about 40% organic potting soil, and the remaining 60% was equal parts decomposed granite, builder's sand, and agricultural pumice. As I write this the tree is dormant for the winter, but has filled the entire pot with roots and has pushed roots through the surface in several places. I will do a follow up video in March after the winter weather eases.

  • Wow what a change it underwent. It came out really nice.

  • thanks for sharing

  • cool, thanks, from watching your videos i feel like i know a lot more about bonsai growing in general.

  • Nice video Chas.

  • How about a video showing your bonsai collection...Very informative...

  • Future plans include a video tour of the yard, but we need to pull some weeds and do a lot of prep first.

  • Love it! Love it! Love it! Cant wait to see it in six weeks. I see you have ALOT of trees in the background. I would love to see all of them sometime in the future. Keep em coming! Great job!!

  • My wife wants to shoot a guided tour of the yard. We have just over 100 bonsais, and my big concern will be making sure they are all free of weeds before the shoot -- a full day of weeding to shoot ten minutes of video.

  • Rubber Mallet? Im guessing you hit it lightly?

  • Hold the tree's trunk base in one hand, and tap the rim of the pot lightly with the mallet, and it slides right out. It is much safer for the tree than trying to yank it out of the pot, and in any event I'm not going to risk a tree I paid $65 for to save a $3 flowerpot.

  • I gotcha. The tree looks great by the way. I can't wait to see it in a month.
