  • I'm familiar with the works and debates of 'Hitch' but this is the first I've seen of M.R.Lennox. May I say what a lovely, peaceful, and quietly considered man John Lennox seems to be. Also nice to see the apparent respect between the two men. Delightful to listen to something that doesn't descend into the gutter and a tirade of personal insults and 'point scoring' rhetoric as is so often the case. Why can't we have more politicians of their character (naive notion I know but I need to say it)?

  • @MegaBanjaluka Well said sir. I have great respect for them both as well.

  • Hitchens is clearly thrilled to be there

  • The mindset of world class debaters very similar to world class athletes.....Competitive and a willingness to win the battle to a point of having to dislike your opponent on the big stage, but a true respect and friendship away from the stage of competition.

  • two brilliant minds

  • Thought I'd mention one more thing. "They either want to fuck them or fleece them." Hilarious!

  • Ha-ha, Hitch gets in his first words in exactly one minute. Love him, always and forever. Loved the stories and I never dreamed anyone could ever be beaten for defacing a swastika in this day and age. R.I.P. Mr. Hitchens. I also quite liked listening to Mr. Lennox's stories as well. Very interesting video, thank you. Why couldn't they have had them in some nice, soft chairs instead of those hard wood chairs though? They both look pretty hot from the lights and uncomfortable.

  • "Oh blow, I haven't cleaned my teeth". LOL! Classic stuff....

  • How have they got Hitchens three times?

  • and now one of these is dead.

  • Two fascinating men!

  • Hey as for these two who debate, the showing is good for all of us since they are good thinkers: For 'All ' of us, atheist & theist alike, both men have a lot to teach each side-

  • no ammont of information or debating could save christopher's soul from eternal damnation now. hes in denial until the end. the only thing that could humble him is some simple pure love.

  • @mamainmancj So do you have proof of your claims are you merely pretending to know about eternal damnation? Please enlighten us how you have come to know the truth of the afterlife & the existence of a soul. Such a discovery would advanced science by eons. Go on...

  • @utubepunk

It is funny to see people talking about eternal damnation, etc, which aren't even Biblical teachings. In the Bible, eternal life is *only* a gift to the faithful. Death itself is the wage of sin, no more. No hell. No torture. No such nonsense. So, I too would be interested to know where mamainmancj gets his thinking.

  • @Mentat1231 Odd. I recall Jesus teaching of great suffering, gnashing of teeth, a lake of fire for denying him / god. But this goes onto another point I make about xtians- each one has their own beliefs. When 1 xtian does something, another claims that they aren't a "real" xtian.I hear this so many times, I'm beginning to think there are no real xtians!

  • @utubepunk He's correct.

Jesus never spoke of Hell. If you read what he said, he was actually speaking a parable: "Where the worm doth not die, and the fire is not put out." The Jews would not have understood Hell, as it is not mentioned in the Old Testament.

Hell was populated by Paul, and the Catholics, after Jesus' death.

  • @Seracinfinity look up gehenna thats the erlyist mention short of egyptian culture of the idear of a hell

  • @kingpharaohtsar Gehenna is a place...

  • @Seracinfinity i see it cant b real theres orthers if thats a problum for ur use in finding the first hell try sheol its still older i thought gehenna wud work coz the image it gives is hellish hel if u didnt know is a norse goddes im celt an we have no idear of hell so i use hades an tartarus myself coz there probily the oldist idear of bad places to go but its outside of christian mythology so i dont know if that covers ur use or not an u may allready know much of these things

  • @kingpharaohtsar

Gehenna was a garbage dump outside of Jerusalem, where there was a constant fire burning to dispose of waste. No living person was ever tossed there; just the bodies of people deemed unfit for proper burial (criminals and such). When Jesus spoke of "body and soul" being "pitched into Gehenna", he was referring to those who would be unfit of memorial, and would not be resurrected. All those inhabiting "Sheol" or "Hades" (which refer to the common grave of Man) would be.

  • @Mentat1231 im not sure what ur point is it the finding the frist hell thing coz it seems to b abit of a grey area i know some people dont like gehenna coz of the being real an that my people have only had this idear of hell for a sort time an iv gota say its all sillyness realy nature dosnt judge why wud a god lions dont think thay just do nature just doz im gona burn in hell lol

  • Hitchens: "Could you shape the question a little more, otherwise I'll just babble."

  • Chris has a shiny forehead.

  • Comment removed

  • Why is Chris always so sweaty!!

  • John Lennox is so adorable! Look at him all happy in blue! I just want to give him a hug!

  • A local event and not universal because a few proverbs mentioned local animals that the local ppl at that time would understand!?,,This makes no sense..lol

Of course,to locals at that time it was explained this way,and upon jesus' instruction to go forth and spread the word,im sure upon coming upon other countrys, the local animals that show herding qualitys could also be used in the explaination of Gods word!...Hardly limited to region is it..lol

Gods word is all expanding and is all

  • Lennox is such a closeted gay. It's sad because he'll never be able to be himself because of his superstition

  • As an Englishman all I can say is fuck Islam. My faggot politicians may appease them but I won't, nor anyone who I know. Where's Churchill when you need him? He wouldn't have stood for their shit. Subhuman scum to the n'th degree.

  • Just wanna say Chris Hitchens knowledge about Bible traslations is off. The Catholic Church did an English translation before the Protestant Churches did.

  • @Ohyewildthong Just wanna say, that's probably wrong; Hitchens is rarely wrong on these types of facts, even if he was/is, Lennox would've corrected him.

  • @MattSingh1 Nope.I see you're appealing to authority. It's a common misconception, probably why Lennox didn't correct him. Plus Lennox is from a Protestant background so would have been taught the myth.

  • @Ohyewildthong I hate to have to say it, because it seems like I'm spelling it out, but I side with Hitchens' intellect over your own, my dear fellow. Sorry to 'offend' you, if that's why you're beaming insecurity. I can see where this is going though, so feel free to masturbate your own ego, while I figuratively wander away, credibility intact. I will not be buying any pencils from your cup, sir.

  • @MattSingh1 What a silly insulting induvidual you are. And nice logical fallacy, an appeal to authority to be exact. Do the research, look up William Tyndall if memory serves me well. Like I said, it's a protestant myth and Htichens, having grown up in the most anti Catholic country in the world, would have been well enforced with such myths.

  • Lennox's stories about being bugged are brilliant!

  • i love how calm Lennox is. i don't think any critical comment or insult could even phase the guy.

  • @lightbrownpoop Yes I think so as well..

  • This was recorded on March 3, 2009 in Birmingham, Ala. at Samford, Univ. Nice conversation. Thanks for the upload.

  • how is Hitchens now, heard he was unwell? looks ok here ...

  • @IDMWEIGHTSIDM Last I heard he was on some experimental drugs for his cancer.

  • @IDMWEIGHTSIDM 7

This is before he got diagnosed with cancer :(

  • @exmuslimNfree really hope he gonig tio be ok would be so bad to lose him...

  • @IDMWEIGHTSIDM Are you telling me that you find it sad for Christopher Hitchens to die, causing his matter to re-arrange itself to form nothing but ash and dust?

  • @OfAeon He's already made out of dust you idiot. We're composed of stardust. Do you know that atoms arranged the way they are in the human composition can NOT cause us to have the capacity to care about one another? No ofcourse you don't have that evidence.

  • @XforeverlongingX You should probably re-examine your position, seeing as you say that people are nothing but star dust(physical) and yet have emotions(immaterial).

  • @OfAeon That's correct. You must re-read what I wrote. Do you know that the composition of material cannot form a brain that is capable of such things as emotion?

  • @OfAeon Yes, in the same way that water is wet, but wetness is immaterial. No need to drag a mystical dimension into the discussion.
