  • I fail to see why there are so many dislikes. A man climbs into a truck and drives it around. Am I supposed to be offended?

  • I could ride a BMX Bicycle up those unsteep hills, get real! Very nice truck though!

  • does that have the 250 cummins motor in it

  • Support our troops?.. What troops? Why do they need "my" support? They are not "defending" us from anyone, but fighting the same "evil" doers that were created by "us." I can't believe people have those stickers on their cars... brainwash...

steep and slick hills - I don't see much mud on the tires for it to be "slick."

In America (for now) it's fun to "mud." In Russia - it's an everyday reality.

    Strange...

  • @rushin2 it doesnt matter who they are fighting or why.....all that matters is you support them. most of them dont want to be overseas in this make believe war either but they dont get to choose what wars they fight, if you have a problem with the war take it up with the "authorities" that sent them there in the first place!

  • @cgspeeddemon1

Wars by nature are aggression. And are fought by The People for The Governments (and their ideology)... Always has been the case...

First "we" create terrorists such as Taliban, al qaeda, PKK... Than "we" fight them. Go figure...

Meanwhile - millions of civilians get slaughtered...

    What is your point?

Lets stick to 6x6 or 4x4 - less painful and requires less facts to discuss... Doesn't require to strain brain cells...

  • @rushin2 i would have to agree with sticking to offroading......however as someone with friends and famlie overseas i know that most soldigers dont want to be there but have no choice and dont deserve the ridicule because they went..............if it wasnt for the american army the whole world be living by hitlers ideals right now. so regardless of wether or not you support the war, support the TROOPS!

  • @cgspeeddemon1 "it doesnt matter who they are fighting or why.....all that matters is you support them" What happens if Marshal law is enacted and they are fighting us will you still support them?

  • is that a 5 or 10 ton

  • @manisdrillingcompany, thats a 5 ton, 5 ton off road 10 ton on, the ten ton is 10 off 20 er 22 on road, the ten tons were mack m123 and mack m125

  • @NathansBackwoods okay check some of my army truck videos out i have a 2 kaiser 2 1/2 ton 6x6, and a 5 ton 6x6 Mack

  • They aren't steep OR slick!

  • 88M-10 here, drove most all of our military's heavy wheeled equipment, anyone who has, has to love them! I was at NTC running the 5ton, same truck (issue tires), talk about the pucker effect! No, never left state-side. SUPPORT OUT TROOPS!!! and please do respect all our men in uniform, pray they do not abuse their authority.

  • definitely SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!

    definitely Pucker Effect at times.

  • awesome but with Detroit lockers in all 3 axles, it must be a bear to turn.

  • ! Power!!

    But, my Scania is better!

  • Iwas issued an "M54" on okinawa japan in 1979 while serving with the marine corps, then when i rotated back i was issued an upgrade to the "newly" redesigned M813" ...Hell I thought i had a monster of a truck that was almost indestrucable, i was right, the "813" could handle any "field operation", high water , mud snow , sand , ice....it really didn't really care for ice that much.

  • You probably had stock issue dual tires on the rear which are about a foot shorter too. Drifting 27000 pounds on ice or a muddy side hill has rewards all of it's own. Pucker factor kicks in and off you go. I does pretty much go where you point it though with those few exceptions.

  • my grandpa got one of these, except a water one, same tho, for his fire dept, the tires are over 4 feet tall!

  • These are 52 inches tall.

  • still huge man, ahaha

  • how long is the bed?

  • That is such a beast.

  • I've been bad not taking some more video of it. It has a full firefighting set up on the back and currently is sitting in the drive with 10K pounds of water on it's back. Made it ride a little better. Can't even see the springs sag. I must remember to bring the camera along for the first wildland grass fire of the season. It has 10 good fires under it's belt already. Glad you liked it.

  • I don't recognize the name Marshall Jones but my memory isn't what it used to be. Check out the Clark Truck Parts Co. as they are a great source for trucks. Your brother is not nuts. He is a progressive thinker :-)

  • Great truck! I just read all the comments. I like your attitude!

My brother just bought a Deuce. I thought he was nuts, but now I'd kinda like one too! Interesting to hear the make up of the truck, and to hear of its duty. Vids of it in action would be neat. My niece just moved out there to teach - Boseman (sp) I think. Any chance you know a childhood friend of mine - Marshall Jones? He is somewhere out there, and it sounds like you two are cut from the same cloth.

    Thanks, and Happy days.

  • We converted the original hydraulic system to all air. Tricky to get used to at first but much safer as if you don't have air pressure, you aren't going anywhere. Parking on a steep hill is not a problem, just let out the air. A standard air release knob in the cab sets the brakes. I still have to armor the air tank under the drivers top step from injury from below. I already covered the air lines with heat resistant aluminized tubing because of this trucks fire duty.

  • Thats pretty cool, Yes I know the big benafit of having air brakes verses Hydraulic, Was it hard to convert?

  • Not hard, just expensive. I had Clark Truck in WVa do it before the truck was delivered to me.

  • Are the brakes, air brakes, or air over hydralic?

  • I hope you know having the single sets of rear wheels instead of the duals make them tip over easyer...

  • Yup, truck is 8 inches higher with the super singles which is one of the reasons we set up the 8 inch diameter somewhat sturdy roll bar just in case. We also set up a double frame under the bed to hold the 1000 gallons of water it holds now that it is set up for wild fire fighting. We have spent many hundreds of hours in it on various terrain. We don't like sidehills. It will go straight up and down almost anything though. The singles are actually wider than duals gut the truck sits higher.

  • BAD ASS

  • what is the nomenclature on your truck....I drove a 5 ton in the army but it wasnt near as big as your truck...like the video...nothing sounds quite like that engine

  • It is an M813/M812 hybrid. It has the length of the missile carrier with a smaller bed. I wanted to be able to have a spare tire behind the cab and have a roll bar. You may have been driving a 2.5 ton.

  • the tires is what threw me off....I drove a 5 ton with a 2.5 ton engine in germany. Then drove a brand new 5 ton...then at ft hood I had a 813. I liked the newer 5 tons for comfort. But loved the older 5 tons for menacing looks.

  • Awesome rig!

  • my moms car can do that....

  • She must have quite a car since the curb weight of this truck the way it is here is 27000 pounds and the ground is wet bentonite. Those little rocks it is climbing over do look small under those 52 inch tires. I suspect this truck would easily climb over your mothers car if I weren't worried about scratching the paint on the bottom of the truck. I am currently hauling 10 thousand pounds of water with this rig to fight fires in season. Curb weight nearly 40,000 pounds climbing hills. Hey MOM!

  • you have got to love the suspension design in the rear works exactly the way any rock crawler lover wants it too stick the tires to the ground perfect

  • How did you get the rear tires to fit in the back?

  • I have a 67,Kaiser Jeep M715 for sale. What a truck for rough territory! All original ... runs like a beauty. Have it on Craigs list in Fayetteville Ar.

    1967 Jeep Kaiser M715 Truck - $5000

Rare military truck. You will find others NOT RUNNING, for near this price... I am asking $5,000 for one that Runs, Works and Looks great. Everything is in tact, original and working. I have many photos that I can send. It was made for hunting in rough terrain you can't beat it.

  • I respect your price but an original implies a super hurricane motor which needs to be swapped out to drive it over 50.??? Original paint, winch??? What other special features make this vehicle worth more than the average m715 that we can get up here (very clean montana no salt trucks) for around 3K. One would have to swap out the whole drive train to swap out. XL's? Partially restored??

  • I never doubted this for a second. It's great to watch the old workhorse on the move.

  • do you have to have a CDL to drive it? I always wanted to eventually get something similar to your truck one day. Have you taken it through any good mud spots? I think that rig would be fun through some swampy terrain, you could always be help to a friend in need with the winch, haha.

  • No CDL. It weighs over 27K pounds but since it has a farm exemption (here on the ranch) none necessary. Had to license it in Wyoming AND Montana since I have land in both. Been on some slick hillsides. Drifting that much weight is a pucker factor. You would need a tank to winch this to but it does come with a 20K rated PTO winch (probably would pull 100K) New films will be taken this summer in it full fire fighting mode. Not much swampy terrain in Wyoming/Montana BTW.

  • Is that a manual transmision.

  • 5 foward gears and a 2 speed transfer case. The newest trucks have automatics but this one is a mid-80's issue. It has about 400 hours on the driveline since new.

  • Patton's favourite car

  • Hey Im seriously looking into getting one of those, but i want those big a** tires. what are the dimensions (52x??), and where could i find some?

  • They are Michelin 16X20 XZL's. You can get them through your local Michelin Dealer but they are expensive that way. The military sells surplus ones on the internet but they can be dry rotten. I suggest calling Clark Truck Parts Inc. out of Virginia. They are who I got this truck from and I highly recommend them.

  • Thanks for sharing this information, I must say that is one of the nicest 6x6 U.S. military trucks I've seen. Usually they come with such tiny skinny donuts for their size. I'll have to get one of these sometime. Also, what did you do with the bed? It almost looks extended and I see there is plenty of room between it and the cabin. Do you have any tips for someone getting into these trucks on how to pick the first one?

  • I had clark truck put on a shorter bed from a missile hauler on to a bridge hauler frame. Long frame/short bed which gave me enough room to put a roll bar and a spare tire in the space. We had clark put air brakes and a 12 volt conversion (highly recommended). Call clark and ask them what they want to set you one up. Mine wasn't very cheap due to the huge amount of modifications I had done to my specs.

  • Thanks, are there any good places in Florida for these things? I was hoping of maybe purchasing one directly from a government auction or whatever else they do to sell them and working on it myself (since I'm getting into welding and etc).

  • None in Florida that I am aware of. (Sorry). Clark has hundreds of trucks in stock and can pick and choose their parts. They have a nice web site at clarktruck(dot)com

    Another company is Oshkosh trucks

  • Thanks for that link. I know of Oshkosh, and some of their trucks are simply amazing like the hemtt. However I can't afford to buy something retail and brand new.

  • Look on steelsoldiers(dot)com too.

    Best

  • Damn, what gear ratio would that be, like 10:1? Awesome.

  • I think 6.443:1 overall. But there is the 2 speed T-case and 4 speed trans. Crawl gear is about 1 mph at idle and will idle up the hills shown here.

  • Cool. I once had a '78 ford van w/a 300 six and 3 speed. I put 4.56 gears in it and if I set the idle at about 900 rpm I could get out and walk it. But it wasn't nearly as cool as this.

  • I have a unimog 404, it has 14:1 first gear and 7.56 gears in the diff :-D thats slow

  • my unimog will crawl in first gear at high RPM about .4 MPH

  • Mogs are very cool. I tried to buy one a few years back but the deal fell through on the other end. This M813 would crawl slower but the 16x20 tires decreased the total gear ratio. We need the bite of the tires more than the low speed because we are fire fighting with this rig and need to handle tough terrain.

  • Oh no dont get me wrong I love American Equipment and I would love to have a 2.5 ton. What mog were you looking into? You can get crawl ratios up to 4000:1 with mogs.

  • It was an MB4/94 with a backhoe on the rear. The bank that foreclosed on it didn't get it's act together in a reasonable amount of time for me to buy it and by the time they did, they forgot to mention it to me. Go figure. I know own a different backhoe.

  • love it, so damn low geared :D

  • weak my ranger could do that in 2whd thats an insult to those military trucks thre unstoppable

  • Of course your ranger doesn't weigh 27000 lbs dry. I fight grass fires with this truck in tough terrain that makes this look sissy too. That 7 foot bank is nothing certainly. I do grass fires with 10000 pounds of water on the bed. More videos later but it is hard to make them when you are driving. It would do this terrain with three rangers on it's back easily.

  • my ranger weighs in at 1800 lbs with my tires but i get what ure saying. the movie title says "steep" hill. so i thaught u were thinking that that was hard to do in that truck but it didnt even bog the motor 1 rpm. its a narly truck i fucking love it. send me more vids when u got the time.

  • Also, the tires are 52 inches tall so those little rocks that you see it going over in the second part of the clip would probably damage a stock trucks rocker panels. And if your ranger weighs in at 1800, the M813's 20000 lb. on road and 10000 lb. off road rating speaks for it self. I will get some more films over time.

  • im heading out tomorrow to test out my 39 inch firestones and ive recentley removed a 1000 lbs so i want to see how it goes and if i get my hands on a camera i will shoot some footage, post it, and let you know,.,., its only got a 3 inch body lift and 1.5 inch leveling coils and it clears 39s completley

  • Amazing clearance. I have a 94 grand cherokee with a 7 inch lift that won't clear 35's. It will articulate pretty well though. My 77 cj7 has 35 BFG Crawlers on it that look small though.

  • thats shit.. i can do all of that with 7er..

  • Not with 5 ton of equipment on your back climbing over rocks.

  • sorry i forgot to say , you have a lovely truck dude please keep it nice and clean . everything oldies is nice and pretty.

  • is this an american made truck ? thanks

  • It was made by American General in 1986 then rebuilt by Clark Truck Parts in 2007. It is better than new now with all modern 12 volt wiring and air brakes. We use it for our main grass fire rig with 1000 gallons of water in the back with 2 professional pumps to drive the deluge up to 100 gallons per minute. Wyoming/Montana grass fires are pretty intense and demand serious medicine to put them out.

  • LOL neat I was also a mse Ops in the military they were fun going off road.. Now I drive big truck in the mountains of Alberta delivering to drill rigs.. Last trip I was grossing 98,000 lbs and needed to chain up going in to rig.. (Sept) durin winter every trip is a chain up trip

  • detroit diesel or cummins, mmmm

  • 850 cubic inch cummins

  • Do these trucks require a CDL or are the under the GVW?

  • They take a CDL unless you have a farm exemption like myself. That limits you to 150 mile circle from your farm/ranch.

  • I was looking at goverment liquidation sites. I see the Am Gen, Kaisers, etc. What are known as dependable and best built for restoring? Like your truck.

  • Because you can't post URL's on this page, I'll put it like this.......... 3 double U's (dot) clarktruck (dot) com If you like autotrans, try the 900 series otherwise the 800 series are a better buy.

  • Awesome truck! Do the m8 series have air/hydraulic brakes or just air brakes?

  • I had this converted to just air brakes. Takes some getting used to. Also a 12 volt conversion for all the accessories that are going on board.

  • Great video, glad to see the truck is working out for you.

  • Great video love the sound of them 813s

  • There will be more of these videos as I get a chance to finish up the truck. It is still a work in progress. It will be a grass fire rig so I will be climbing/crawling terrain with it here on the Montana/Wyoming border. Stay tuned.
