Solos are generally improvised to some extent. Even on recordings. Too hard to remember the notes exactly. Also this one is pretty much the same as the recording or maybe better...
I reckon that the solo on this live version is close enough to the album version not to get confusing, but different enough to keep it interesting if you were at the gig and knew the tune inside and out. I've only seen NIN once and that was way back in 1994. I remember that I wanted them to play "Ruiner," and they didn't do it. Bastards! "Get Down, Make Love," was F'in' amazing though.
It's not meant to be exact to the record. The point of the solo on the record is to sound improvised anyway, which it probably was when it was recorded for the first time.
you can tell the guitarist was trying to get in some input but it sucked so they went back to the song. should have just played it the way trent wrote it and just be glad you were even on stage.
Because, without those people you wouldn't be bitching like you are now. And this is by far one of their best songs which I've yet to see. Thanks to this person I'm able to watch them perform it. And jizz as well.
oh fuck i was at this fucking gig omfg didn't see them at all cuz of all the smoke and was really pissed and singing off key and i fell over and was fucking awesome best gig of my life!!! thanks for posting this cos all my vids you can't hear them just my drunken slurring!! thank you so much!!!

One of the best works in the history of sound. Loved the raw quality of the solo, in this performance.

He played it pretty damn close to the record. He certainly didn't try to change the song or take it in a different direction.

they played it the same length as on the record, so ... what are you talking about?

Your version gets the mood better than the [more] professional footage from the concert.
