Yeah but I hated when Alex was in his electronic drums phase.Here he had his Ludwig Dynamo acoustic kit with Tama Techstar pads in front of the toms and the old Ddrum triggers all driving those cheesy Tama Techstar drum samples.
He went all electronic except for his snare on 1984. I was so happy when he went back to real drums on 5150.
Pretty much all the artists were blitzed, top prize probably goes to Steve Nicks, but old Dave must have been in top 5 lol......that's part of it. I'm sure the audience was right there with Dave!
I've give anything to travel back in time and see this live....all the greatest rock and pop bands of the time at your near their peak: Judas Priest, Van Halen, a young Motley Crue (although poor Vince's was shot), on the pop side you had Stevie Nicks in all her coke frosted glory and many others..

I don't know what you mean by loaded, they sound amazing. How do you know what these guys do or what substances they take or not take? A lot of you just make assumptions, you can't run all over the stage in the dark or play guitar like that and be too much out of it.

On the album they sing, "runnin with the devil," the actual title of the song and how they sang it on the album....Anyway just an observation. They actually pull a song off their first album better than what were some of there song closer to this time period...props to the mighty VH!

All i remember was it was DARK and DUSTY but when VH went on there was this HUGE rush to the stage. I survived and was 30 ft from the stage. For what the US Festival was at the time....it rocked. I still remember U2/Bono up in the cherry picker hovering out over the audience. Great Memories.

I went to this concert and the 82 us festival. It was a great time to be alive. The first us festival you could stay the three nights at the ground but what they didn't tell you is that you had to share the camp grounds with all the cars. It was crazy! A mix of aging hippies and stoned teens.

I don't think too many people would've been surprised or disappointed at Dave singing wasted. That's half the reason people went to see The Doors. Van Halen represented "party times" back then. With all due respect to Hagar, who is a fine singer, this band lost a lot of it's identity when Roth left (or was kicked out depending on who's side of the argument you take).

Yeah, Dave's singing is definitely not at its live best. He seems to sound out of tune, or a bit off key here......perhaps alcohol related?
And also just considering the fact that this was kind of towards the downward end of it all, as far as his Van Halen days were concerned. So perhaps in this video, we are witnessing the beginning of the very sad ending of one of the best ROCK acts in all of history.
BUT let us all always "envision" Van Halen like in their PANAMA video! Amen

Also a member of the over 40 gang. Saw these guys in the mid 70's as the opening act of a three band show at the Palladium (14th St) NYC. I'd never heard of them. Eddie Van Halen just blew me away. Ronnie Montrose was the second act and was also F'ing great. Journey was he headliner and they sucked. It amazes me to see them playing to a crowd this size.

Dave's uninhibited drinking back then could be a hindrance. In 1980 when I saw VH at the Nassau coliseum on Long Island, he interrupted every song with some little announcement for amusement sake. It took the momentum completely away from the show, But Eddie was good and Mike really held up the backbone of the group.
Yeah, I saw VH in 1981 at Nassau. nassau is a pih gole, echo chamber delux. I have my Garden tickets and ready for a great show. They should blow up Nassau and have Wang spend bucks to build a better new arena, one that doesn't leak!!!
You got it DP; the acoustics there have been a disaster since day 1. Ironically I've read the posts here regarding the shows on this tour and several complained that the sound from up in the rafters has been so bad that they couldn't tell what song VH was playing. Whether Wang will pony up for a new arena remains to be seen. The taxpayers better not get stuck with it. We pay through the nose here. Have a blast at the Garden.

I went to this concert and the 82 us festival. It was a great time to be alive. The first us festival you could stay the three nights at the ground but what they didn't tell you is that you had to share the camp grounds with all the cars. It was crazy! A mix of aging hippies and stoned teens.

I don't think too many people would've been surprised or disappointed at Dave singing wasted. That's half the reason people went to see The Doors. Van Halen represented "party times" back then. With all due respect to Hagar, who is a fine singer, this band lost a lot of it's identity when Roth left (or was kicked out depending on who's side of the argument you take).

Yeah, Dave's singing is definitely not at its live best. He seems to sound out of tune, or a bit off key here......perhaps alcohol related?
And also just considering the fact that this was kind of towards the downward end of it all, as far as his Van Halen days were concerned. So perhaps in this video, we are witnessing the beginning of the very sad ending of one of the best ROCK acts in all of history.
BUT let us all always "envision" Van Halen like in their PANAMA video! Amen

If you mean after drinking a quart of Jack Daniels and an 1/8 of cocaine! yesssss! But I've seen VH 3 times (80 Invasion, Fair Warning Tour and the 08 tour with Wolfgang) and diamond Dave always misses a few notes here and there. But that's VH live! They still are the BEST rock act that I've ever seen live. If you want vocal perfection in Rock then you should see King's X w/Dug Pinnick on VOX!

Also a member of the over 40 gang. Saw these guys in the mid 70's as the opening act of a three band show at the Palladium (14th St) NYC. I'd never heard of them. Eddie Van Halen just blew me away. Ronnie Montrose was the second act and was also F'ing great. Journey was he headliner and they sucked. It amazes me to see them playing to a crowd this size.

40metalhead " - SoCal rocked in the early 80's. Most of these bands played our High School Dances and backyard parties. Remember the rich kids in BH, they threw the craziest parties back then. I saw VH, Motley Crew, Oningo Boingo, S.T. & Sublime at backyard keggers in SoCal.
You need to be over 40 to have witnessed the insane debauchery of '78 to '85.

Gone are the days of running into DLR getting trashed at the Rainbow and having him hit on your girlfriend only to get in a fight with him and have "Steady" at the door throw you both out, then making up in the lot and having him sneak you into "On The Rocks" for last call.

Dave's uninhibited drinking back then could be a hindrance. In 1980 when I saw VH at the Nassau coliseum on Long Island, he interrupted every song with some little announcement for amusement sake. It took the momentum completely away from the show, But Eddie was good and Mike really held up the backbone of the group.

You got it DP; the acoustics there have been a disaster since day 1. Ironically I've read the posts here regarding the shows on this tour and several complained that the sound from up in the rafters has been so bad that they couldn't tell what song VH was playing. Whether Wang will pony up for a new arena remains to be seen. The taxpayers better not get stuck with it. We pay through the nose here. Have a blast at the Garden.
