@ZeDuBreju Hard to show you here since you can't post links, but Penhold blades are just shorter handle while the handle is thicker.. sometimes possibly the blade is larger by a small amount, no wood on the side though.

@ZeDuBreju yep usually the japanese penhold bat is square but there are j-pen bats that are rounded it is up to your preference..... and yes the japanese penhold has a weak backhand.... :)

@yobmas722 Well! I live in Brazil, here we call shakehand by classic, japanese penhold by pen, and penhold like Ma Lin by classpen(classic + pen), in our language is classineta (classic=classica, pen=caneta).

Awesome! I live in the United States and play penhold. I have never played against another penhold player here and when I play someone for the first time it almost feels like it has a shock effect that works to my advantage.

first time i ever touched table tennis bat i held it using pen grip, not even knowing it was a proper grip, it just felt natural way to handle it for a table tennis game. i never learned how to use any other grips, pen grip is pwnage :)

Japanese penhold (J pen) uses a square racket and the player only uses one side of the racket even on backhand (such as Ryu Seung Min). Chinese penhold (C pen) uses a similar racket to a shakehand (the handle is a little shorter though it is still very possible to use either grip on either racket) and when playing, uses a technique called reverse penhold backhand where the player will switch to the opposite side of the racket on his backhand side (such as Wang Hao).

thank you! i dont know how anyone could try using J-Pen, C-Pens seems so much more deadly and definitely more fun.  I am currently trying to get the hang of C-Pen, i hope i catch on and can use it as my primary grip.
