not my favorite in the serie, but devil summoner 2 is a good improvement over the 1st one. fighthing the same boss over and over was a bit annoying...but i'd like to see a third game with raidou , nagi...the character are interesting and i think it got some potential.

I found a special edition version in a local game store, with a Jack Frost doll dressed as the MC. I want to get it, but do I have to play the first Devil Summoner to get the second? Despite that the persona games had little to no ties together (Extremely minute), I want to be safe before I drop a good chunk of change on this thing.

My first XP of the Shin Megami Tensei games was Nocturne. You could play as Dante, but keeping him in your team gave you less flexibility on the multitude of endings for the game.
This was the first SMT game released in the UK. When starting, I had no idea it was notorious for being a difficult game even for Atlus, and I started on Hardcore difficulty.
I loved that game, every minute was tense... watching any SMT video always makes me ask the question 'Why did I stop playing?' I wasn't stuck.

While you're talking about how random the demons you fight against are, they really aren't. One of the things about Shin Megami Tensei is that all the monsters are mythical creatures. For example, that "dog thing" is an Inugami, which in Japanese mythology is a vengeful spirit.
The cool thing about Shin Megami Tensei is when you do the research on the demons you find out they're from tons of different sources like Greek, Egyptian, Hindu, and Norse mythology.

@samjoelego13 Speaking of online... There is actually a Shin Megami Tensei MMORPG. It has combat that is more real time than most, since you're actually having to be active, and it has all the Demon Summoning and Fusion from the main series.
The title is Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE. It has an interesting story, as is usual, and fun gameplay. Free to play too.

the only reason i didnt get this one is cause the camera moves around focusing on you too close that you get hit by attacks all the time off screen, while in the first one it was a fixed camera angle that perfectly showed the entire battlefield completely

I got the deluxe version of this game (game and limited edition plushie) for 10 bucks at the BX on the AFB by my house. I love this game!!! But the camera angles are a little hard to get used to.

@solace00assassin They don't ALWAYS develop them. All of their demon-themed games are either official games in or spin-offs of the Megami Tensei series. That's just their most popular series, so you hear about those the most. Most of their other games are one-off things, and don't really get sequels or anything.
atlus is funny al thier shin megami games have deoms and some of them have satan or lucifer as thier final boss . atlus should change thier name to 666 atlus ongoing because you know they kinda demonish
@Bigmcd3 Actally in SMT it's more like Michael or Asura, or Yahweh, or Metatron, usually you recruit Satan or Lucifer. I think only Lucifer was a super secret boss in Nocturne, and Satan is the super boss of DDS 2, Megami Tensei however has you face Lucifer, Satan AND Yahweh at the end of the game, (it was on the NES.)

DA really is a roleplaying game, since you get to choose Raidou's real name as well as choose everything he says. It's almost like you ARE Raidou. That's role playing to me.
Thank god Im not the only one, I thought there was something wrong with me. Ive completed Person: Innocent Sin and Persona 4 and love the whole series concept and atmosphere and so didnt see a reason for me not being able to get into Luficers Call. I still cant, to be honest! Itl have its time eventually. Games are very similar to novels in that sense eh?
For me its mainly the oddball Japanese game and all RPGs that I have a ps2. I still use it, even more so than my ps3 and 360 that sit right next to it.
I dont know why you got thumbs down. I had problems getting into SMT: Lucifers Call. I kept getting 40% through it to only get distracted by something else and put it on hold. I left it for so long I ended up just restarting it when I went to pick it up again. This has happend 3-4 times to me now.
Nocturne/Lucifers call IS hard to pickup to. I'm a fan of smt series and this particular game is least stunning for me. I mean there are many frustrating elements that in order to grind pains your mood. Persona/Devil summoner/digital devil saga = win. Nocturne is win but not as much :)
@DigitalWebOwner Fair enough but I disagree, not only are the Persona/DevilSummoner/DDS games merely spinoffs of the original SMT series which Nocturne is part of but I believe it has the most mature and least pretentious story, and Shoji Meguro really created a unique sound that he takes parts from for each new game, it's really from Nocturne that everything modern spawned.

Try to research your subject extensively before reviewing it so you don't resort to misguided, humorous conjecture. Also, it's terribly apparent you're reading a pre-written review without any flow or inflection in your voice. Try to get a feel for what you want to say before you say it.

yup so really the core elements of this game make it an RPG because there is a leveling system, if anything its an action RPG, because you free roam in battle rather than take turns.

shin megami tensaie's Devil summoner 2 is still an RPG you level your character fight monsters and such, dont know why he saids it isnt. DA really is a roleplaying game, since you get to choose Raidou's real name as well as choose everything he says. It's almost like you ARE Raidou. That's role playing to me.

If it wasnt for ATLUS and shin megami tensei games i wouldnt own a ps2. With my library of smt games PS2 wont get retired for years.

Thank god Im not the only one, I thought there was something wrong with me. Ive completed Person: Innocent Sin and Persona 4 and love the whole series concept and atmosphere and so didnt see a reason for me not being able to get into Luficers Call. I still cant, to be honest! Itl have its time eventually. Games are very similar to novels in that sense eh?

For me its mainly the oddball Japanese game and all RPGs that I have a ps2. I still use it, even more so than my ps3 and 360 that sit right next to it.

only vaguely like DMC because it uses guns and a sword interchangably in battle.
other than that it is quite a unique action rpg that stands entirely on its own.

I dont know why you got thumbs down. I had problems getting into SMT: Lucifers Call. I kept getting 40% through it to only get distracted by something else and put it on hold. I left it for so long I ended up just restarting it when I went to pick it up again. This has happend 3-4 times to me now.

Nocturne/Lucifers call IS hard to pickup to. I'm a fan of smt series and this particular game is least stunning for me. I mean there are many frustrating elements that in order to grind pains your mood. Persona/Devil summoner/digital devil saga = win. Nocturne is win but not as much :)

@DigitalWebOwner Fair enough but I disagree, not only are the Persona/DevilSummoner/DDS games merely spinoffs of the original SMT series which Nocturne is part of but I believe it has the most mature and least pretentious story, and Shoji Meguro really created a unique sound that he takes parts from for each new game, it's really from Nocturne that everything modern spawned.

Well, you do more than I do on here, so I'll give you that, but let me also give you some constructive criticism:
Try to research your subject extensively before reviewing it so you don't resort to misguided, humorous conjecture. Also, it's terribly apparent you're reading a pre-written review without any flow or inflection in your voice. Try to get a feel for what you want to say before you say it.

yup so really the core elements of this game make it an RPG because there is a leveling system, if anything its an action RPG, because you free roam in battle rather than take turns.

shin megami tensaie's Devil summoner 2 is still an RPG you level your character fight monsters and such, dont know why he saids it isnt. If anything it's a real time action RPG! thats like saying Kingdom Hearts isn't an RPG when it is!? lol good review on the Game over all, i just feel he had the not an RPG thing wrong that's all.
