James Taylor was learning guitar in Edinburgh at the same time my father was a folk musician and James sang Sweet Baby James to me while I was in my pram, it became my lullaby. Great musician and song writer.
"Karen she's a silver sun, ya best walk her way and watch it shinin', watch her watch the mornin' come.........hey babe, a silver tear appearin', now, I'm crying, aint I, gone to Carolina in my mind.....aint no doubt in no one's mind that love's the finest thing around, whisper something soft and kind, hey babe, the sky's on fire, I'm dyin' aint I, aint I gone to Carolina in my mind...." I do believe Karen was a sister of James as I referred to in the other post. Not sure but I think so.
I grew up from a tot with his songs.....I think he wrote this with his family in mind....I remember reading about a homestead his family had in 'Carolina', and a sister who was mentally ill (or just walked the tune of a different drummer), she's the one who he sings about in most of the versions of this song...."Karen, she's a silver spoon, ya best walk her way and watch it shinin'......." .........it's 2:30 am right now & I can't remember it rightly. Great version though! Thanks.
I too grew up with James Taylor in my ears. At home, in the car and everywhere else. Love this song, but also Fire & Rain (which I can closely relate to) and Sweet Baby James...The chap is a master.
@teraniel11 well then your wise beyond your years, as they say. The old stuff is human variance, like beauty inside errors or acidents. Now a days. everythings digital and overprocessed . To cookie cutter. Good to hear young ppl still listen, thanks to your parents im sure.
@teraniel11 ---Good for you! Always follow your heart! Don't ever change! James Taylor was like my invisible friend when I was just out of high school, not knowing what to do with my life and very lonesome. God Bless you!
@teraniel11 i am only 2 years old, and I love old music. i dont listen to that rap music that other kids my age listen to. i listen to old music, because I am sooo cool. i am only 2 years old.
@teraniel11 That's cuz this music is the best! They don't make songs like this anymore. I like some of today's music but it's not like the music of this time.

When you're homesick, this is one of the only songs that works to lift the heavy mood. Trust me, I've just experienced it.

Ummm, it's Carolina IN my Mind, not "on" my mind. Georgia is the one that's "on my mind".
