I am tired already of these candidates claiming "clean coal" and nuclear as legitimate alternative energy sources. Stop saying "clean, alternative energy" and talk about something real. Solar? Wind? That is what we need. The only thing that will halt global warming and really put us on the path to sustainable self-sufficient future is truly renewable energies - solar, wind, plug-in hybrid vehicles. What about a cap on carbon emissions? Come on Hillary, don't take us for fools...
Your policy on Global Warming is brave and motivating!! I'd like to see the U.S. become the leader in the use of alternative energy and boost our economy through environmental responsibility!
Get specific about WHAT KIND OF ALTERNATIVE ENERGY?? You need to look into HEMP!!! It's already been researched. HEMP IS THE ANSWER! Have the guts to talk about it...
Forcing oil companies to invest or contribute to the strategic energy fund will force them to pass the cost on to the consumers, raising gas prices. So instead of our money going directly to the fund through taxation, it will pass through the oil companies first. The point is that the money will still be coming out of our pockets into the fund. Sounds like a tax to me.
if i was american i'd vote for you. i think that british people should be able to vote in the US elections, your policies affect us soooo much we should have a say
Hillary as an expert in the Renewable Energy Field, I have found that 99% of the folks you talk to have no idea what Renewable or Alternative Energy is. So at this point education, not higher ed. but all the way down to the lowest level possible is extremely critical. Promote Science Fairs, and teach our younger kids early and continue to do so at each grade level. Want some help, I am available, So right now we need to start developing younger minds to think and Renewable Energy.
Don't be ridiculous. The energy companies will claim they are working on such technologies and just drag their feet. Of course, you know this, which explains why you would put that loophole in there in the first place. Just demand an extra tax from the energy corporations and be done with it.
This sounds like moving money from the oil companies to government pork barrel projects. We don't need to reward efforts towards progress, we need to penalize lack of progress.I wont be convinced until she introduces a bill that increases the minimum MPG a fossil fuel-burning vehicle gets until we hit 40mpg by the end of 2017(the next 10yrs).This shouldn't be hard, diesel VW jettas already get 45-50mpg.Necessity is the mother of innovation, not throwing money at people that want to be innovators.
We have choices on how much we spend on everything EXCEPT gas prices. WE the consumer have NO say in how much we pay and unfortunately, most of us can't afford to buy the higher mpg cars being sold and we also can't afford to not drive. Our hands are forced. We are all slaves to oil, so I say to Hillary, let's go for it! It's time the focus is brought back to the working American family and our kids' futures.
I personally would like to see incentives for people who drive hybrid cars, because right now there are no incentives if you lease one, and very little incentive if you buy one, even taking into account higher MPG. You still end up having to pay more than for an equivalent pure gas car.
We spend more money on garbage bags in this country than 90 other countries spend on everything. What we need is a change in attitude and heart before most people will even consider doing anything about global warming or accepting alternative fuels. The people in this country have been spoiled by technology and convenience changing that can't be legislated. What do garbage bags have to do with this? If everyone cared about the Earth they would know the answer to that.
I'm not sure clean coal is the answer. What other technologies are to be included in this search for alternative energy besides clean coal and ethenol? What are you thoughts about ANWR?
I agree with you exactly. If the oil companies aren't going to contribute to an effort to endorce alternative fuel sources, then they need to be hurt financially.
This is not simply oil companies hurting our economy or disagreeing with our goals, it is the oil companies destroying our planet, and that is something that just can't be forwarded.
Hello! I Would like to know if this really is Hilary Clinton. Or just the people she hires to post videos. If this is Hilary Clinton, i would like to as you say "have a conversation" Because you would like to represent the people if you are elected correct? I would love to receive a reply! God bless.
Yes, it is really her. Check out her "Let the Conversation Begin" series. She spent 1.5 hours (3 1/2 hour videos) answering emails. You can find it in her videos. To Mrs. Clinton, great job and keep up the great work. I love to the compliments being made by you about Barak Obama. The American people need unity to put our country back on the right track.
Diverse voices talking together can help deliver good policy. Posting to an open discussion forum is evidence that Hill and team value and trust citizens to engage in civil discourse.
Perhaps you can suggest what tweaks in Federal energy policy might help YOUR state economy and health best, so the rest of us inthe conversation - and the Clinton/Obama team when they are able to review our content - can help the Congress authorize something to approximate your solution?
Hilary, how do you propose to make alternative energy affordable? Ethanol is cleaner, but it costs more. Isn't it rue that without the government subsidies that Ethanol would be double or triple to cost of gasoline? Are these costs only in start up, or is it simply the cost of production. Do we have the water and reservoirs to grow enough grain and corn to make Ethanol a truly viable alternative? Please, lets have alternatives, but lets make it so they can stand on their own.
Good point, and as always it is the citizen experts in each area who need to take the lead to demonstrate solutions, that the Feds empower on a largr scale. Emerging solutions could use MUCH more start-up biz and R & D Funding, that protects intellectual property.
Regarding Bio-Fuels, have you seen the new Canola based fuel? Made from the bean (not from oil) it, can mix w/reguar gas to 50%. A BIG new power plant in LA, is planned.
Isn't it wrong to take someone's profits? They earned it. In addition, the technology for alternative fuel is already here; "we" just choose to ignore it.
Yes - it is wrong for the big western Oil Companies to continuously manipulate/violate laws to expolit so many countries - and WORKERS around the world, when so few profit. Even Shareholders have been royally ripped off. Workers and natural resources create the wealth, and deserve decent treatment, and a fair share of return. That is the democratic policy for which Hillary stands.
IMO, as a Consultant working with Renewables technology inventors, the best is yet to come!
Much of this sounds good, but please Hill, NO COAL. And I hope we can do better than 50 billion over the next ten years, Iraq is costing us that much every month.
Sure wish I'd be old enough to vote in 2008. First comment!
Anyway, good luck running for president. My advice (although I'm not an expert) would be to make a lot more noise. Obama has more than 3 times your pageviews. You both have a shot, though, so keep it up.
I have been waiting for someone who has a chance to do something to say the things you are saying about energy. We also need to require autos be able to run on this new energy. Flex fuel vehicles and ethanol only vehicles would be the obvious choice. I am not sure about electric or hybrids because eventually we will have a battery waste problem that will be very challenging.
Bush supports alternative energy. this is nothing new. proposing new legislation? why can't she do this while she's still a senator. people doing their job are more likely to get my vote than those campaigning instead of doing it.
Energy is a great global issue. The US unfaltering problems with oil and global warming must be treated right now before they reach a point in the exponential increase of problems where they become unsolvable. The new technological advancements can also (indirectly) prevent future wars regarding coal, oil, and other natural resources.
where do you stand on the people in the USA, who live in the streets, I know a lot of USA citizens who struggle to make ends meet, what you going to do there,
Mrs. Clinton-- I agree that there are some really plausible ideas in your suggestion, and I completely agree with most of them. One question, though: How exactly do you plan to get oil companies, greedy bastards that they are, to give up excess profits to fund what would basically, one day, put them out of business?
very nice strategy you have for the smart use of renewable sources of energy, thats very nice using other sources is the call of the hour in the present scenario when oil prices are rocketing sky high.thats why the strategy suggested by you is very nice, that should be done.creating jobs also, very smart plan.
a very nice innovative plan to make the country energy independent and utilising the alternative resources of energy, well madam you are right, thats the call for the current scenario when oil prices are reaching sky high limits.this is a very nice policy,i must say that you are a true visionary, have a nice day madam.looking forward to see you as the president.
If you want a moon sized program how about solar cells at open areas around the earth with large 1 sq mile mirrors in stationary orbit to light the solar arrays at night. Getting that much material in orbit will be hard but there is nothing else that looks promising for providing the world energy in the next 100 years. I had thought Nuclear Fusion would provide our energy in 50 to 75 years but right now that does not seem possable.
One of the better ways, in the short term, would be nuclear power plants. With current technology they can be safe and clean. The waste is smaller in volume and a percentage of that waste could be recycled.
Ethanol? Coal? These are not the answers to global warming. Ethanol, the way the US makes it, uses more energy to produce it than it provides. That excess energy comes from coal and diesel. The major component of a coal power plant waste gases is carbon dioxide. The only scheme I have heard of to remove the CO2 from the power plant exhaust gas is by liquefying the CO2 and storing it underground. This requires a lot of energy that also has to be supplied by the power plant.
I probably won't vote for you Hillary, but you are absolutely right on this issue. Push hard on this one, make this your main issue, and I think you will win. Thanks.
I find it very unamusing that the american public in general has no real concern for global warming, or for implementing an alternative to our energy problems. Maybe when you become president, you can push these issues into the limelight by endorsing short documentaries about the environmental hazards that are contributing to global warming, and the truth behind what truly fuels our country. Good luck. You have my vote.
