  • I watched Boogie Nights and thought it was a great movie. I watched this and PT became my fucking hero.

  • this guy isn't arrogant. he is a cinematic genius and he has passion and energy for his art.

  • It's 12:33 am, it's a school night and instead of sleeping I'm watching Paul Thomas Anderson talk about pornography. Awesome!

  • @JesusCristo2002 it's 5.08 am and instead of sleeping in preparation for my days schedule of university lectures, I like you were one week ago, am watching the legend PT Anderson talk about pornography! lol

  • shit motherfucker! i'm a film student and i'm 27... p t anderson is 28 here! what the fuck am i doing with my life??? someone give me a shit load of money to make a movie! quickly!!! =)

  • @migol1984 that can be quite frustrating. You're anywhere between 20-30 and you're like..."The guy who wrote and directed my favourite movie was 27 at the time :o"

  • I would've liked to see that scene in the movie.

  • PT Anderson is my favorite director, but I hate when people put PT Anderson on the same level as Kubrick, or when they say PT is the next Kubrick. One Kubrick film is worth more and says more artistically than all of Anderson's films combined. Kubrick is almost untouchable because of his incredible body of work, and I'm sure Anderson would admit to this.

  • Munching so hard on pizza during an interview.

Not a single fuck was given that day.

  • He's so funny in this interview. He kind of reminds me of Tarantino but a little more laid back and humble.

  • "How does Forrest Gump have sex?" hahaha

  • I would love to hang with PTA; I can only imagine that it would be a great time.

  • PTA = KUBRICK with a more accepting sense of Humanity

  • "Not even good mono" lol

  • He is just high on life. And its fucking beautiful

  • this guy is hilarious. love it

  • i would fucking love to meet this guy

  • is anyone else's audio off?

  • @gangstalee713 waaay off!

  • @haribo687 man, if someone could only separate the audio and video and sync them together then this great video would be even better

  • Ya think he wants a milkshake with that pizza?

  • wtf is with the pizza every interview?! AND WHO MAKES IT!?

  • Comment removed

  • Watching PTA's movies, I expected to see a pretentious guy who takes himself too seriously. However after watching this interview, This guy could be my older brother. And the pizza is brilliant...

  • All writer directors have similar manorisms and ways of speaking. He is no exception.

  • This guy is PASSIONATE. He reminds me of another passionate, talkative director: Quentin Tarantino.

It just goes to show how passion leads to perfection, and ultimately success. You have to be passionate about what you do.

  • "Get your pizza man" Love this interview.

  • 1:13

    killed it.

  • @crinjfilm Why?

  • @hanshotfirst1138 i think crinjfilm was using "it" to mean the pizza. as in, he devoured that massive piece of it in one go lol

  • I'm sure optical flow would have worked for that 1 frame....

  • @ginjah2 It might now. Don't know if between the money PTA didn't have and the technology available at the time, he could have don it then.

  • every time i watch this video , i eat pizza

pta enthusiasm is the reason i guess

  • the ending to this video!!!!!! pizzaaa

  • pta straight up hatin' on fuji

  • best fucking director in us right now

  • I love his passion for film and his knowledge of it.

  • COCAINE

  • haha dude i bet he's so stoned in this interview

  • Brilliant director. He's so focussed on character development.

  • He's so fuckin' cool. And he's devouring that pizza!

  • Hard Eight is underrated, well-acted, has a fun story, and has great dialogue.

Boogie Nights is his best movie, has an all-star cast, and has a story of it's own.

Magnolia is an epic with great acting all-around, with strong emotion.

Punch-Drunk Love is Sandler's best work, is short and sweet, and is underrated too.

There will be Blood is a modern-day masterpiece with Daniel Day-Lewis giving his best performance.

Watch his movies. You won't regret it.

  • We need more directors this candid. So far we've only really got PTA and Tarantino.

  • @jakespick fucking A man!

  • David Fincher is cool as hell as well. Listen to his commentaries on his films.

  • the only director who could manage a marilyn monroe biopic.

  • haha i love his straightforward comments about sex!

  • damn never heard of this guy but mannn, he's fucking awesome. so down and real haha

  • please immediately seek out his movies, hard eight, boogie nights, magnolia, punch-drunk love, and there will be blood. he is the greatest filmmaker of the current generation, you will not be disappointed

  • watch his movies now

  • Hypnotic.. could watch him talk forever.

  • This guy's fuckin awesome. His movies are epic.

  • His take on film genres are epic as well.

  • He's eating pizza.... I love this fucking guy !!!!

  • @dan564891 Its impossible not to love this guy, seriously, no homo lol

  • There's a difference between being arrogant and being excited about life. He falls into the latter category.

  • "Get your pizza, man."

    "Oh shit!"

  • Amazing director. There Will Be Blood is his best work. Boogie Nights too.

  • Magnolia is his best work in my opinion. Havn't seen hard Eight (Sydne) yet but I really would like too.

  • He seems like the exact opposite of arrogant to me.

I think there should be more directors like him.

  • haha, I saw that you wrote, "whats wrong with something about mary?" on the third part of this video. That should be enough for anyone to write you off.

And i don't see how he's arrogant. HE is being interview about HIMself and HIS movie and he barely talks about it or himself, at least from what we're shown. Not too arrogant.

  • not really.. the interviewer seems like he has a way of getting people to open up. if you have a problem with people making themselves vulnerable then ... i dont know.

he does say some awesome stuff here and its endearing to see him yacked out. or just excited.. cant tell which.

  • All I see is a filmmaker in love with his craft. You don't get PTA honesty out of most filmmakers, which makes his interviews so damn interesting.

I love There's Something About Mary.

  • Do you know what arrogant means? Because I, as well as many other viewers, don't see it in these videos. It's perfectly fine if you don't like his movies - many people don't - but to blindly call him arrogant?

He's being interviewed about himself, so of course he's going to talk about himself and his opinions. Such is the nature of interviews.

Could you provide examples as to why you think he's a prick?

  • I wasn't really offended, more curious as to why you thought that he was arrogant.

We filmmakers tend to be very opinionated and like to go into detail in terms of our thought process and why we do what we do in our films. So I can see why you think he's arrogant because of that, but I assure you, he's not : )

He's an extremely passionate filmmaker and passionate filmmakers like him (and Quentin Tarantino) talk fast because when they talk film, they get excited because they love it so much.

  • 'how does forrest gump have sex'

    classic line.

  • He needs to work more. I think he is above and away the best writer/director of his generation, but he just doesn't make enough movies. Just imagine a world with a p.t. anderson picture every year!

  • I think working less makes him better.

  • He probably wants to but it is pretty hard to finance films in general. Let alone make his marvelous and ambitious visions.

We should be glad he is able to make them in the first place. So yeah I wish he made more but we are not in the golden age of Hollywood. Marvelous and ambitious stories are not commercial hot spots for corporations

  • Maybe it will be less difficult now because I would say There Will Be Blood was his most ambitious and least commercial film and it actually made quite a bit of money.

  • What's What Pedro Does? Can't see to find info about it when I search.

  • They're talking about Pedro Almodovar. Go watch Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! if you want to know what they're talking about.

  • He looks a little like George Clooney. He's a sexy looking boy here.

  • If he was coked up he definitely wouldn't be hungry enough to eat the pizza.

  • hes not coked out. hes eating pizza

  • there will be blood is best film to come out of amrica in ages

  • I think PTA just has a lot of energy. At that time, he didn't have a baby, so he had a lot more energy to put out. Plus, he was 10 years younger in this interview. I have friends who look just like this when they talk about something they are excited about.

  • Comment removed

  • Whether he's coked out or not, he is a genius and everyone needs to just watch a fucking interview without making it such a big deal. Listen to the man and move on with your life.

  • The movement of his hands are as hypnotic as those of David Lynch.

  • This guy is totally brilliant.

  • PTA should become a porn director

  • lol. This is awesome. Fascinating. I also think he's pretty cute. Most directors are fugly.

  • PTA is twisted, lol.

  • For everyone that thinks P.T.A. is on coke is completely wrong. If he were on drugs we would know about it. He either would've probably had an overdose by now, been in rehab, or a lot of worse things. HE IS NOT ON COKE, OR ANY DRUG. He is just a GENIUS!!! Now everyone who thinks he is on Drugs is wrong, so leave P.T.A. alone

  • No way man, he is on hella coke here, watch his interviews nowadays he has no energy anymore, the kind of energy here isn't just youth it's drugs

  • um... no. if he was on drugs, why would he make a film (Boogie Nights) that expressed blatantly the downside of Cocaine and using generally. Unless he's one of those who are like "just cus i know its wrong doesnt mean i cant do it...", which PTA seems more clever than to do so.

  • why'd someone give you a thumbsdown? I definately agree with ya.

  • thanks man, nice to see someone else with brains here :)

  • That's not how drug addiction works. Some people go on for years and years never ODing or going to rehab or anything like that. I don't think he is on drugs NOW but from this period up through the release of Magnolia I think it's pretty clear.

  • It pisses me off to hear anything about a great filmmaker like P.T.A. doing drugs because it seems to me that what happened to Quentin Tarantino is that he became a burnout after partying throughout the nineties. It's frustrating when someone has awesome talent and they don't recognise drugs will mess up your brain.

  • Depends, Peckinpah was on drugs and still made great films(when they gave him Final Cut). Oliver Stone was partying hard as well, while doing The Doors and JFK.

  • Forrest Gump having sex!

  • I wonder if they will release PT's version of SYDNEY?

  • Is there another version?

  • The DVD release is his version. It's just not called Sydney.

  • mmm pizza

boogie nights came out at least in the u.k january 1998, the u.s a couple months before

  • Oh also at about the end he talks about a bad print boogie nights at some shit theater somewhere. When I seen there will be blood I went to a buget theater that was playing the film, and as you know TWBB won an oscar for best cinematography. But the print they were playing was a very shity one so I could'nt appreciate the film visualy, and the sound was also complete crap. History repeats itself again. Just dont tell him that.

  • This man is an AWESOME Director! But is he off about the time frame for Boogie Nights? I thought it came out in or around January of 1997?

  • Yeah pta would not know when it came out hes only the director(saracsim).Im kidding though it came out about oct 17 97.

  • That was a big pizza bite!

  • The interviewer makes it even funnier. He sounds like a snobby prick, though the interviewee (PTA) is talking about porn the whole time. Haha.

  • that snobby prick wrote (adapted) and directed leaving las vegas.

  • my god i love him.hes my ideal man..

  • Comment removed

  • This is great. All the parts about the editing and hard eight -- the whole fucking thing -- are gold. pure gold.

  • Yeah, he's fascinating to listen to; really knows what he's talking about. Passionate, erudite, funny, and very smart.

  • boy, was he sexy in those days.

  • What's amazing is how he took this appreciation for porn - almost, like it's an art form. Or, at the very least, a genre deserving consideration. Which, okay, people would think - that's strange. Yet, he took that kind of sensibility and gave it a really human and dramatic undercurrent in Boogie Nights. That's just ****ing awesome. He took something filthy, yet so ingrained in culture, and he found heart in it.
