@JesusCristo2002 it's 5.08 am and instead of sleeping in preparation for my days schedule of university lectures, I like you were one week ago, am watching the legend PT Anderson talk about pornography! lol
shit motherfucker! i'm a film student and i'm 27... p t anderson is 28 here! what the fuck am i doing with my life??? someone give me a shit load of money to make a movie! quickly!!! =)
@migol1984 that can be quite frustrating. You're anywhere between 20-30 and you're like..."The guy who wrote and directed my favourite movie was 27 at the time :o"
PT Anderson is my favorite director, but I hate when people put PT Anderson on the same level as Kubrick, or when they say PT is the next Kubrick. One Kubrick film is worth more and says more artistically than all of Anderson's films combined. Kubrick is almost untouchable because of his incredible body of work, and I'm sure Anderson would admit to this.
Watching PTA's movies, I expected to see a pretentious guy who takes himself too seriously. However after watching this interview, This guy could be my older brother. And the pizza is brilliant...
please immediately seek out his movies, hard eight, boogie nights, magnolia, punch-drunk love, and there will be blood. he is the greatest filmmaker of the current generation, you will not be disappointed
haha, I saw that you wrote, "whats wrong with something about mary?" on the third part of this video. That should be enough for anyone to write you off.
And i don't see how he's arrogant. HE is being interview about HIMself and HIS movie and he barely talks about it or himself, at least from what we're shown. Not too arrogant.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
write me off if you want. I'm right. Theres nothing wrong with Something about Mary, and he comes across as a bit of a rambling arrogant prick. sorry to hurt you feelings.
not really.. the interviewer seems like he has a way of getting people to open up. if you have a problem with people making themselves vulnerable then ... i dont know.
he does say some awesome stuff here and its endearing to see him yacked out. or just excited.. cant tell which.
Do you know what arrogant means? Because I, as well as many other viewers, don't see it in these videos. It's perfectly fine if you don't like his movies - many people don't - but to blindly call him arrogant?
He's being interviewed about himself, so of course he's going to talk about himself and his opinions. Such is the nature of interviews.
Could you provide examples as to why you think he's a prick?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I do like his movie's. He was just dissmissive of certain genre and movies. but it wasnt just that he just seemed arrogant in this interview, a bit too sure of himself. again I like his movies, but he just comes across as slightly hyper here thats all. didnt mean to offend you
I wasn't really offended, more curious as to why you thought that he was arrogant.
We filmmakers tend to be very opinionated and like to go into detail in terms of our thought process and why we do what we do in our films. So I can see why you think he's arrogant because of that, but I assure you, he's not : )
He's an extremely passionate filmmaker and passionate filmmakers like him (and Quentin Tarantino) talk fast because when they talk film, they get excited because they love it so much.
He needs to work more. I think he is above and away the best writer/director of his generation, but he just doesn't make enough movies. Just imagine a world with a p.t. anderson picture every year!
He probably wants to but it is pretty hard to finance films in general. Let alone make his marvelous and ambitious visions.
We should be glad he is able to make them in the first place. So yeah I wish he made more but we are not in the golden age of Hollywood. Marvelous and ambitious stories are not commercial hot spots for corporations
Maybe it will be less difficult now because I would say There Will Be Blood was his most ambitious and least commercial film and it actually made quite a bit of money.
I think PTA just has a lot of energy. At that time, he didn't have a baby, so he had a lot more energy to put out. Plus, he was 10 years younger in this interview. I have friends who look just like this when they talk about something they are excited about.
Whether he's coked out or not, he is a genius and everyone needs to just watch a fucking interview without making it such a big deal. Listen to the man and move on with your life.
For everyone that thinks P.T.A. is on coke is completely wrong. If he were on drugs we would know about it. He either would've probably had an overdose by now, been in rehab, or a lot of worse things. HE IS NOT ON COKE, OR ANY DRUG. He is just a GENIUS!!! Now everyone who thinks he is on Drugs is wrong, so leave P.T.A. alone
um... no. if he was on drugs, why would he make a film (Boogie Nights) that expressed blatantly the downside of Cocaine and using generally. Unless he's one of those who are like "just cus i know its wrong doesnt mean i cant do it...", which PTA seems more clever than to do so.
That's not how drug addiction works. Some people go on for years and years never ODing or going to rehab or anything like that. I don't think he is on drugs NOW but from this period up through the release of Magnolia I think it's pretty clear.
It pisses me off to hear anything about a great filmmaker like P.T.A. doing drugs because it seems to me that what happened to Quentin Tarantino is that he became a burnout after partying throughout the nineties. It's frustrating when someone has awesome talent and they don't recognise drugs will mess up your brain.
Depends, Peckinpah was on drugs and still made great films(when they gave him Final Cut). Oliver Stone was partying hard as well, while doing The Doors and JFK.
Oh also at about the end he talks about a bad print boogie nights at some shit theater somewhere. When I seen there will be blood I went to a buget theater that was playing the film, and as you know TWBB won an oscar for best cinematography. But the print they were playing was a very shity one so I could'nt appreciate the film visualy, and the sound was also complete crap. History repeats itself again. Just dont tell him that.
What's amazing is how he took this appreciation for porn - almost, like it's an art form. Or, at the very least, a genre deserving consideration. Which, okay, people would think - that's strange. Yet, he took that kind of sensibility and gave it a really human and dramatic undercurrent in Boogie Nights. That's just ****ing awesome. He took something filthy, yet so ingrained in culture, and he found heart in it.
I watched Boogie Nights and thought it was a great movie. I watched this and PT became my fucking hero.

Hard Eight is underrated, well-acted, has a fun story, and has great dialogue.
Boogie Nights is his best movie, has an all-star cast, and has a story of it's own.
Magnolia is an epic with great acting all-around, with strong emotion.
Punch-Drunk Love is Sandler's best work, is short and sweet, and is underrated too.
There will be Blood is a modern-day masterpiece with Daniel Day-Lewis giving his best performance.
Watch his movies. You won't regret it.
