I'm a Nazi war criminal living in Argentine and I wish more Nazi war criminals listened to Television and Richard Hell instead of all this modern day Flamenco.
Lars Ulrich QUOTE: "With Television,I got the sense that here was a real band who were really connecting with each other...Some of the songs on that first album, like 'Friction',are just so intricate. That one's actually like this real hard rock track too.Don’t tell anyone this but 'Marquee Moon' is one of my secret tracks for Metallica to play.I'm gonna try and sneak that one in there without anyone noticing!"
The whole record is THE best album ever made. This one is totally spaced out. The guitar solo - probably the weirdest thing I have ever heard. The lyrics are great, throughout the whole record. I have spent a lot of nights in my life, drinking loads of wine trying to understand the meaning of them, haha.
@MrSKINFLICK Just to elucidate a fact about Richard Lloyd: "... in his middle teens he met a scrawny black kid from Brooklyn named Velvert Turner who knew Jimi Hendrix. Jimi considered Velvert his "little brother", and took him on as his protégé... teaching him guitar from Jimi's apartment on W12thSt. As Velvert and Richard Lloyd were best friends, Velvert asked for permission to teach Lloyd ... and so Lloyd and Velvert began practicing together under the teaching auspice of Hendrix" Cool Pupil
@offisk Yeah - and not like "zombies" as someone wrote here... exactly they look like kouros on drugs. So intense, look at Verlaine, and Richard L staring. Brilliant.
I've loved tis band from day 1 1977 still have my original copy MINT well kept in great shape! I think the original shrink wrap is still on it ---- they should have gotte more recognition!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@bruce369able Well, if it's really "mint" it must mean you didn't play it very much. Much-loved LPs eventually got worn out by overplaying! I foresaw this potential problem & in the '70s bought several vinyl copies each of Marquee Moon & Adventure. One of my '70s copies of Adventure not only has the shrink wrap on it, the shrink wrap was never opened. Now that's mint!
Friction - Television [New York] - 1977 - "Guitar HOOKS. Catchy punk vocals. Good first impression." - Marquee Moon [Bonus Tracks] (Rhino)-2003. NOTE: Another band used their guitar riffs on youtube: The Stems-Leave you way behind
boy this brings back memories... the bad 'ol dope days in new york. my husband ( a musician too of course) would go out every day with tom verlaine, richard hell, and cheetah chrome searching for the longest dope lines (that was always a good indicator that the dope was good) Crazy times, great music, good dope...... ahhh nostalgia!
Lloyd burns, but please don't forget Verlaine's playing! It's all over this, and it's stunning. They are both playing on this, as they do on all TV tracks
@neve1073 I prefer Lloyd as a guitarist but then, on the other hand, this is my favourite guitar solo on the record and it's by Verlaine... It sounds like an electric snake, fantastic
The more I listen the more I hear, few records are complete perfection, this is one of the few, a progressive record in the absolute best possible way.

2:39 and 3:50 - i wonder what Hendrix would have said to this....
Marquee Moon is clearly underproduced though, in my opinion !

I always wondered why the guy 2nd from right was doing the John Fogerty look, and then you hear the guitar in the left channel.

In my mind the band looks like Greek Kouros statues. Fantastic record!

@Megajosh2 Nice, I've never made that connection, but this should have been a new era of psychedelic!

@Megajosh2 I can see the resemblance to the guitar solo in You're Gonna Miss Me here.
