@ttmarlene "Childhood Memories!" Did anybody catch the last soft drink order from the nasaly "Arnold Stang-like voice"; for a "two cents plain?". New Yorkese for seltzer water. Still makes me laugh, and you can't help but sing along with the song.
That cowpunk's a blatant clone of YOSEMITE SAM!! The studio headcheese probably put the pressure on the animators to do so.....cuz they were always after them to do Bugs Bunny ripoffs.
I have this one from a Popeye DVD, this was thrown on as an extra I guess. What a great song, was this recording just for the cartoon. I know Bing Crosby and Sons of the Pioneers recorded it, but of course it is not this version.
Famous Studios used a lot of "standards", as well as tunes from Paramount's "Famous Music" publishing house {and a few others}, for their "Screen Songs", 'Cartoon'- "Little Brown Jug" had been a "standard" years before it was used in a Paramount cartoon {Glenn Miller had a big hit with his version in 1939}.
This was originally released as a Paramount "Noveltoon" in August 1947, and was a forerunner of the second series of "Screen Songs" Famous Studios produced from 1947 through '51...Jackson Beck and Sid Raymond have a few voices here, including one from Arnold Stang at the end. Johnny Mercer wrote "I'm An Old Cowhand" for a 1936 Bing Crosby Paramount musical, "Rhythm On the Range"...
I'm suprised that some children's songs were wrtiten for Paramount Pictures. "Little Brown Jug" was written for a Famous Studios Screen Song in 1948. "I'm an Old Cowhand" was written for a Paramount musical feature in 1936, as fromthesidlines said.
That song in that sing-along seqeunce sounded more like a tune WB would do.
omfggg i've been looking for this forever! i have it on VCR too, a few months i was looking for it on youtube because i actually love the song, i downloaded the bing crosby version :]
Does Jackson Beck do the first Indian or the second Indian? And does Jack Mercer does the first or the second?
