An easier to use additive that doesn't reguire any special eductors and stops fire in its tracks....look at FireIce.com. We are moving away from any foam except Class "B" and are now using FireIce in all PWC (water extinguishers on all trucks). FireIce is safe, biodegradeable, non-corrosive and cleans up with plain water. You can bulk mix it in a fire tank! This isn't as impressive as the FireIce!
@NukeUrNeighbors but how much fireice do you need to make it effective? and wouldn't you need a special eductor since you would be mixing a powder opposed to a liquid?
@barticus04 FDNY demonstrated a fully involved interior car fire and put it out with 2.5 gallons of FireIce in a 10:1 ratio (water to FireIce) in a PWC (Pressurized Water Canister). The PWC had the straight nozzle replaced with a FireIce 15 degree fan tip. A 2.5 gallon PWC is extremely effective on small fires up to a fully involved interior car fire. The product is extremely effective in a 10:1 ratio as a medium term fire retardant and 20:1 - 25:1 ratio for direct suppression.
@NukeUrNeighbors But the UEF works at 200:1 or 0.5% and you wouldn't have to use any special nozzle apart from a standard foam nozzle! And good application helps!!
@barticus04 No special eductors needed, except its highly recommended to "Batch" mix the truck. Once its mixed in the fire apparatus...its good for a very long time (months). The product will start to dehydrate at some point in time and then you would just add water and recirculate the tank to mix the water with the gel.
