I think nbc would have been smart to save another world over starting passions, or made passions 30 mins starting at 12:30 days at 1:00 and another world at 2pm

I used to love the NBC soaps. Especially when each was UNIQUE! I loved the over the topness that was DAYS, the seriousness of AW, and the foolishness of SuBe. We were for sure an NBC family growing up

Talk about 2 different soaps! I never watched "Sunset Beach", hardly seems fair to even have it paired with AW at all. Another World was true soap at it's soapiest, extensive character and storyline development, so luxurious and elegant, likable good/bad characters, and their amazing Friday afternoon cliffhangers that had you begging for Monday!!

Another World was and remains one of the best quality programs to ever hit the airwaves, day or night time. Performances like Victoria Wyndham's and Charles Keating's, Douglass Watson's or Beverlee Mckinsey's are one of a kind and stand as a hallmark to this outstanding and consistantly produced program.

It's been over 10 years and I'm STILL pissed NBC cancelled Another World. I stopped watching Days too when AW got cancelled. I started watching it off and on again about 3 years ago, but I still look for AW to come on right after. It's like a missing limb.

I did the same exact thing. June 25, 1999 was the last day of NBC PERIOD for me with 2 minor exceptions ("Friends" and "Will & Grace"). And until "The Office" and "30 Rock", NBC was really tanking all over the place after FRIENDS and W&G bowed out --- I'm just sayin'...

The only thing is, Sunset Beach wasn't supposed to be a soap parody; it was supposed to be the real thing, but its campiness and over-the-top acting made it an unintentional parody. At least Passions knew what it was from the very beginning.

Sunset Beach knew it was a pardoy. It had:

pop ups

breaking the fourth wall

fantasies

talking to themselves

all of which passions copied!

Sunset Beach was the original and was a hit outside of the USA. Passions was a flop in the U.S. and was consistently near the bottom of the soap rankings and never made a hit outside the U.S.

It didn't start off as a parody but after they knew they had to do something different to attract fans and after it got campier etc fan reaction was great so they ran with it. The show was the greatest and no other tv soap holds a candle to it. ANd if anyone says it isn't a parody they should check out the scene with Annie in a whipped cream bikini

Sunset Beach was actually a lot of fun. It was more like a cheap, vaudeville comedy showcasing freaks. A wonderful parody of soap operas, with some great actors. Sarah Buxton was a great comedienne.

I knew so many people who loved Another World. Several of them watched faithfully from the late 1970s to the very end. I remember one friend's mom telling me that she couldn't believe her favorite show ended for "some crap that was created for 12 year olds", meaning Passions.

Damned if this still doesn't make me tear up!!! NBC probably made their worst decision EVER cancelling "Another World". Losing "Sunset Beach" was kind of stupid too. I was hooked on all 3 NBC soaps in college. They SHOULD have aired them like this:

DAYS - 1:00

SUNSET - 2:00

AW - 3:00

They may all have lasted...

why oh why did nbc get rid of another world? i started watching that show religiosly about a month before it was cancelled and i was hooked!!! darn soapnet for stop rerunning episodes. i wish all 8891 episodes had been preserved. i am crossing my fingers and hoping another channel will pick this beloved classic up.

I *THINK* DAYS aired at noon at some point in my childhood where I live, but I swear they shuffled it around so much I got dizzy! Here's just a brief recap of Puget Sound listings for NBC soaps:

GEN - 12:30

AW - 1:00

SB- 2:00

DAYS - 3:00 -- this would have worked better had GENERATIONS not gone up against AMC at #2.

DAYS - 9 a.m. (!!!)

AW - 1:00

SB - 2:00 - I guess I need to finish this in another post...

The scheduling basically varies from affiliate to affiliate. For instance right now, CBS airs Guiding Light at 3:00 pm, however, here in the Pittsburgh area, KDKA airs it at 10:00 am.

I can't agree with all of you. Passions sucked. But Another World was an amazing soap. The clip made me weep a bit. As for Days, it has seen its' best days. (lol) and needs to go. Guiding Light on cbs however, is getting better. And as the longest running tv program EVER, it is reinventing itself and continues to have a great cast with decent writing.

i feel the weep too wheni watch the aw clip. another world has always gotten the short end of the stick from the beginning. even after the show ended the show still had the short end of the stick with soapnet not being able to rerun the show from beginning to soapnet cancelling the show before rerunning all the episodes. another woorld i live you and you will always be in my heart

If you mean in this clip, the song was sung by Barbra Streisand. I think the album it's from is still in print if you're looking for it. I've heard that the Peacock didn't want this (or any) clip montage to air but SOD put their foot down. Should have been *longer* than 2 minutes but we were lucky to get that. This was the first time in 19 years that the full 1967-1981 logo animation aired on the network.

Passions is a great soap opera but it likes to repeat itself, and they don't show a whole lot magic stuff like they did in the begining, but the dumbass at nbc should not have cancel sunset beach and another world! Nbc daytime has gone down hill. They need to renew sunset beach and another world and put it on the soapnet (another world was on soapnet but not any more)or something, and port charles need to come back to! What really needs to go off the air is Days of our lives and guiding light.
