At a tournament I was at the jr black belts were as young 12... and some were damn good... all depends on how early you get in and some kids are that natural to learn fast and the school you are at.

where have they been succesful against BJJ guys? Currently in the UFC all the Champs hold a black belt in Jiu Jitsu.
You cant even think about fighting now a days without learning brazilian jiu jitsu, But you can fight without learning Judo, maybe all you need is wrestling, but once it gets to the ground there are thousands of ways to submit, get dominant positions and escapes.
NEWAZA is very basic compared to brazilian jiu jitsu
Lesnar doesn't have a BJJ black belt. Also if you want to see Judo beating BJJ, watch Yoshida vs Gracie.
Newaza is just Japanese for ground technique, it's not a martial art. To compare judo to BJJ is meaningless if you're not more specific. Most of the techniques in the BJJ canon are present in judo as well. Of course, many schools don't focus on them these days, but there are several schools of judo that focus heavily on newaza and have little practical difference in approach from BJJ.
Those are only 2 examples. Very rare, but you dont see any judo blackbelts holding a title.
Again i am not talking bad about judo, i have a lot of respect for it, but to say brazilian jiu jitsu has little practical difference in approach from bjj is not correct either in my humble opinion.
BJJ has revolutionized the fighting world, judo has not had that kind of impact on fighting.
That is why bjj has done very well against all other martial arts

traditional bjj doesnt start adult belts (blue, purple, brown and black) until you are 16. The gracies got there black belt when they turned 18 because that is the lowest age. Some school practice different belt systems.
Being a black belt in anything doesn't help in a "bite the bastards ear off to live" type of fight. Marshal Arts are too disciplined to be much use in brawls.

At a tournament I was at the jr black belts were as young 12... and some were damn good... all depends on how early you get in and some kids are that natural to learn fast and the school you are at.
To be fair though... he's probably full of shit though...
And no style is better guys... there are pros and cons to all styles

@dardrex777 @dardrex777 Yes in other styles sure. I acknowledge that. However no legitimate school gives a person under 18 a black belt no matter when they started. Also my bad, when you said junior black belt tournament I assumed it was BJJ since that is what the discussing is about on this video.

@madax132 not fully true either. Plenty of people I know got their black belts in their teenage years and they had the skills to prove it.
Most people don't get their black belts young because they choose not to stick with it. Most people hardly commit to a school.

I understand that but NEWAZA is very basic for ground grappling.
Brazilian jiu jitsu is specialized on the ground. That is why you see a lot of begginer jiu jitsu guys do well in Judo tournaments
I am not knocking Judo, i love it. But to say its better than Jiu Jitsu, well i dont see it because i have done both and there is a lot more techinique and controling ones opponent with jiu jitsu

where have they been succesful against BJJ guys? Currently in the UFC all the Champs hold a black belt in Jiu Jitsu.
You cant even think about fighting now a days without learning brazilian jiu jitsu, But you can fight without learning Judo, maybe all you need is wrestling, but once it gets to the ground there are thousands of ways to submit, get dominant positions and escapes.
NEWAZA is very basic compared to brazilian jiu jitsu

Lesnar doesn't have a BJJ black belt. Also if you want to see Judo beating BJJ, watch Yoshida vs Gracie.
Newaza is just Japanese for ground technique, it's not a martial art. To compare judo to BJJ is meaningless if you're not more specific. Most of the techniques in the BJJ canon are present in judo as well. Of course, many schools don't focus on them these days, but there are several schools of judo that focus heavily on newaza and have little practical difference in approach from BJJ.

Those are only 2 examples. Very rare, but you dont see any judo blackbelts holding a title.
Again i am not talking bad about judo, i have a lot of respect for it, but to say brazilian jiu jitsu has little practical difference in approach from bjj is not correct either in my humble opinion.
BJJ has revolutionized the fighting world, judo has not had that kind of impact on fighting.
That is why bjj has done very well against all other martial arts

@Galicia1981 I agree judo in a rounded combat sport has very little merrit. I have trained with judo black belts and if you drop your center of gravity real low like a wrestler its hard for them to do throws. Not saying the can not of course.

indeed! that said, all bjj practicioners should take judo to learn more about throws/takedowns. But yeah, the BJJ practicioners tend to be better at newaza. This is mainly because BJJ utilizes Judo newaza techniques and CONCENTRATES on that single aspect. hence better ground fighters.

traditional bjj doesnt start adult belts (blue, purple, brown and black) until you are 16. The gracies got there black belt when they turned 18 because that is the lowest age. Some school practice different belt systems.
