The US P-80a began to enter service in late 1944 with 12 pre-production YP-80s they entered limited service but saw no combat duty in europe. Germany surrendered on VE-day May 8, 1945'.

No, you overestimate it. By a good degree, too. Modern airpower isn't in the business of destroying entire cities anymore. A carrier has nowhere near the ammo stores for it.
And, of course, trying that shit with China is gonna be interesting given that they have an air defense network decades in advance of anything the USAD or USN ever actually fought against and an air force that's actually able to give a fight.

Plus Karzai doesn't want us using air power or doing night raids. If the B52' were let loose it would be entirely different. Same as Iraq. Once we found Hussein we should have killed his leadership, got base rights, oil, reparations kept a reaction force in the north and left. No need to occupy for 8 years!
