You have to go with the HD2. I've never been so pleased with a phone. You can do whatever you want with an HD2 thanks to winmo 6.5. You can customize it 100% thanks to the registry tweaks. And of course, upgradable to winmo 7.0!

This is what I think and I might be wrong...but in Asia and Europe you have a choice of carriers with an unlocked phone...you just put a Sim card in it and you are good to go...but here in the USA the Nexus will only run on 3G if its with T-mobile...if you put an ATT sim card in it it will run on the much slower Edge network...so in the End you really only have one choice...someone please correct me if I'm wrong about Europe and Asia...that's why unlocked phones in the USA aren't very attractive

A major difference is that Android is open source.... so if you want to write a new dialing app or a new way to organize your contacts and choose how to contact them, etc, you can. iPhone OS is not open source.

Except, in certain respects, they kill the Iphone. Palm has cool, intuitive, multitasking WebOS. Moto Droid has the best GPS software and it's Google syncing ability is just plain awesome. Plus, it's Android, so it's more flexible. And it has a bigger screen and better resolution. Iphone may be best in terms of multimedia and apps, but it's HARDLY best.
You need to get off your high horse and realize that there are phones out there that ARE better than Iphone, despite not as popular.

T-mobile doesn't have near the network..but is backed by Deutsch-Telekom; the third largest in the world behind Telefonica and Vodafone; T-mob US is just their latest market

And I have read plenty of Analysts' opinions on the matter and Android has got a long way to go. They've made a good effort but their is nothing special there and definitely nothing to stop the rolling stone known as Apple.

If you look at which smart phones that generate the highest web traffic/email/YouTube and so forth, iPhone comes in with 55%. Android is second with 20%. The Blackberry comes in third with 12%. Palm's WebOS has 5%. Windows Mobile at 4% and finally the generic Palm OS with 1%. The final 3% are scattered with various no name brands and such.
This shows that even though iPhone only basically has 1 type of phone, with 1 carrier in the US, it blows the entire Android base out of the water.
@nellerboy2000 Why? Because iPhone did it first. The iPhone has been around for 3+ years so of course they will gain that many customers. Android has only been out for about a year and gaining traction. People are just now getting familiar with Android. Time will tell.
I do admit the new Nexus One is probably the closest you can get to an iPhone. In some regards better, in some regards not so close. All the videos seen so far point to it being at least a worthy competing phone, the first to do that in my opinion. Which is good, hopefully it will push Apple to get some more innovative things going too.
The problem is the lack of carriers able to use the Nexus One though. Mostly TMobile and AT&T, latter only with EDGE even.
What I said was this Google phone is not going to be on Verizon. So, the people with Droid are going to either cancel their contract and switch carriers or they are going to be stuck on Verizon.
And I highly doubt they have a bigger fanbase then Apple.

Anyone with EYES can see that the N1 and HD2 look WAY better than the ugly ass grid of icons that plagued the Iphone UI since 3 years ago. When you can't even set a wallpaper w/out voiding warrant, you KNOW there's something wrong with it. All they have a bunch of lame ass apps to hold them over until the next Iphone comes out w/features everyone else already has.

lol all you people saying the snapdragon processor is so much powerful than the 3gs are wrong.
sure it is 1ghz and 400 mhz more than arm cortex a8 but umm that's just PAPER performance.
they both have about the same power and performance on real life. if you do a test on both they will perform nearly the same.
the snapdragon is a little more powerful but not a huge 2x performance powerful.
but i do prefer the hd2 than the iphone.
the bigger screen is win!

depends man. in my opinion i like to see the androids as more of a fun,sleek,sexy average consumer type phones. Blackberrys are the nerdier,business user, email heavy phones. those are generalizations though. i prefer the mytouch over my second favorite the bold 9700

A major difference is that Android is open source.... so if you want to write a new dialing app or a new way to organize your contacts and choose how to contact them, etc, you can. iPhone OS is not open source.

Except, in certain respects, they kill the Iphone. Palm has cool, intuitive, multitasking WebOS. Moto Droid has the best GPS software and it's Google syncing ability is just plain awesome. Plus, it's Android, so it's more flexible. And it has a bigger screen and better resolution. Iphone may be best in terms of multimedia and apps, but it's HARDLY best.
You need to get off your high horse and realize that there are phones out there that ARE better than Iphone, despite not as popular.

The cost is actually $179 if you buy with the T-Mobile network. It's only $500+ if you buy it with no service and you plan to use a SIM card.

I tried both devices and the Hero is not bad... but not even close to killing the iPhone... the platform that is behind the iPhone (Itunes/Appstore) is superior at the moment... you forget what really makes the iPhone great... not just its features... but its whole platform and setup!

i think Android devices will soon be winners, Google is not aiming at hardware market, they just wanted to control the whole user experience (as a test here at Nexus) but their business model isnt going to change, 'Search' and the phone, even Android itself came just to support tht model, listen to press release of nexus..

As far as which phone is better overall.. Droid it has pretty much everything that apple has to offer except for a few exceptions (iTunes, Compatibility) also the droid with the hardware it has, has better performance. THATS THE BOTTOM LINE. But the IPHONE is prettier.

More apps doesnt make them better apps. Android is the fastest growing type of phone, and will overtake Blackberry (#1) by the end of 2010. It also has a strong homebrew, developer and customization base, and is open source. AT&T is hurting iPhone by being unprepared for the massive data consumption that the iPhone utilizes. T-mobile doesn't have near the network..but is backed by Deutsch-Telekom; the third largest in the world behind Telefonica and Vodafone; T-mob US is just their latest market

If you look at which smart phones that generate the highest web traffic/email/YouTube and so forth, iPhone comes in with 55%. Android is second with 20%. The Blackberry comes in third with 12%. Palm's WebOS has 5%. Windows Mobile at 4% and finally the generic Palm OS with 1%. The final 3% are scattered with various no name brands and such.
This shows that even though iPhone only basically has 1 type of phone, with 1 carrier in the US, it blows the entire Android base out of the water.

I do admit the new Nexus One is probably the closest you can get to an iPhone. In some regards better, in some regards not so close. All the videos seen so far point to it being at least a worthy competing phone, the first to do that in my opinion. Which is good, hopefully it will push Apple to get some more innovative things going too.
The problem is the lack of carriers able to use the Nexus One though. Mostly TMobile and AT&T, latter only with EDGE even.
