How does Imelda May make it quite big when much better *billy groups remain relatively unheard of. The Coffinshakers, Hillbilly Moon Explosion, Zombina and the Skeletones, The Creepshow, Frantic Flintstones, The Hormonauts etc.

We like Imelda but just wondering why other bands are not making as big as she has... there is a lot of good *billy bands out there that deserve more recognition. You might like KC and the Moonshine Band too. Kitty in a Casket is also worth checking out. The Hell Freaks are visually stunning but the vocals are not as good as Hellcat and the Prowl
I just discovered Imelda May and her great band. Just off the top of my head her voice reminded me of Janice Joplin,early Amy Winehouse,and early Gwen Stefani, I really enjoy Imelda's non mainstream style.I live in Southern California. I don't listen to mainstream music.Country and folk ,old outlaw country , old blues ,ska ,swing .some rockabilly ,jazz, rock ,metal and punk to name a few LOL.I really like Imalda and band's style.Keep up the good work.I look forward to seeing y'all live.

i remember in Dublin in the 80,s there was a scene with rockabilly or pyschobilly bands such as those handsome devils and sharkbait..does anybodyknow if Imelda Mays musicians had any part to play in that era?
@dickpox9 I think as her band are English, they wouldn't have been in the Dublin scene, but I think some of Imelda's siblings were very much involved in the scene.

@flesh86 but the world was waiting for a bluesy type jazzy singer to come along and fill a whole. amy winhouse came and used this kind of appearance then just ruined herself with drugs and lost all respect. another one going down these lines has to shake off the "just another amy winehouse" label.
If emlda may was found instead of winehouse, id be seeing her in concert about now.... dont think my has any lined up some how.

@Lycan510 What a load of rubbish, Amy may have been a mess and an addict but she could definitely sing!!! Imelda May is brilliant I love this but I really find it, " bad taste after her death" to even compare or whatever these two artists. Saw Imelda on Jools Holand live that night and was so happy to have seen her.

@EkkoZero ...instead of amy winehouse. I meant that amy winehouse was the first to bring soul and jazz into the mainstream for a long time. Everyone ate it up, she became massive very quickly but then lost it all because of drug abuse. I think if imelda may was in her place she would of honoured the attention given and show to tours to do perfect performances instead of being stoned and forgetting the words like winhouse. Because she is now second she will not recieve as much attention as amy.
