I liked this movie, BUT....

It would have been INCREDIBLE if Matthew McConaughey would have played the lead and Stiller the agent.

Stiller in the lead just undermined the amazing performances of the other actors and turned a potentially timeless movie into just another Night at the Museum.

And Downey should have won the Oscar!

I don't disagree that Stiller "plays" a great stupid person, but I think you're overlooking the fact that everyone else was playing it straight in this movie, as it was "about" Vietnam...still a sensitive subject in today's American society. (Check out some of the pre-release interviews with the cast for verification.) Sure McConaughey was a great agent, but he was playing it straight & Black's character quirks were due to "drugs". All were great but Stiller was the stinker.
