  • Someone help me. There's a raccoon with a plastic cup on it's head and it's running around in circles. I went to get a broom and now it's running all over the place. I can't get to it to help it. Do you think it will get that cup off it's head??? I can't stop crying about it...

  • That raccoon looks overfed!

  • Nice caring people.

  • I just love how awesome animals are at adapting - like how your German Shepherd was so gentle with the coon. My black Lab, Ace, was the same way with ours and it brought me so much joy to see them play together. My cat, Wyatt, also loved playing with them. Wish I'd video'd them now

  • I've had 1 pet raccoons that I was forced to take in due to their being abandoned by their mothers at a very young age. Both were given all their shots, including rabies, by my local Vet that agreed to care for them under the circumstances. Rabies vaccinations for cats is what my vet used, after researching it extensively. Both coons were returned to the wild after a lot of rehab - about 2 years. I miss them all the time but know they belong in the wild.

  • @okiefawcett

I do agree also that they belong in the wild. As tempting as it is to want to keep them. This coonie though could not survive the wild, even for a month on her own as she could not climb trees. Her deformity of her legs was most likely the reason my son found her on the ground. I'm sure the mother left her there knowing she was deformed.

  • luv to see cool relation between human n the wild life...thanks for the vid

  • NellyBond, Raccoons really are extremely hard animals to have. You have to really know how to handle them, and even then there are no quarantee's that you will have a gentle coon. Vets do not like to take in wildlife for patients, it only happens when you have special connections. They are better off left in the wild . This coon was left by her mother due to a problem with her front legs. They were deformed and she couldn't climb trees.

  • @MaddyDesr ARE THEY AGRESSIVES THESE RACCOONS

  • i love it-I'm looking forward to have one!!do they sell ??

  • Purchased "shots" at a feed store and gave it to the Raccoon but it did not have the effect you were hoping for. Ask a Vet if you don't believe me.

  • I have to disagree with the comment that says "the raccoon has had all of it's shots"... That's bull... I had a raccoon and took him to 3 vets trying to get shots for it. They said there was no way a Raccoon can have a Rabies shot because it doesn't work on a Raccoon. "Shots" do not work the same way on a raccoon as they do in a canine or feline animal. You have to have shots that are specific with their makeup and there is no company that has made shots for Raccoons. You may have

  • @rmeno

Well, I know 3 coons right now , all have had their rabies shots. They are giving pellets to the wild raccoons in Central park to vaccinate against rabies. So I don't know , but I can't see them putting money into mass vaccinating wilds if the vaccine doesn't work.

  • You know what I find incredibly sad and disheartening?

How 'animals' can get along with each other regardless

of species as we see here with the dogs and cats and bloody

raccoon (??), with no worries -YET we as Human Beings do

nothing but hate one another, sell each other out for the love

of money, and in the end kill each other over something as

simple as a pair of sneakers or difference in cultures and beliefs.

But the raccoon is the one considered a 'wild animal'. ??? = /

  • @British0Pixie the only mistake God has mad was creating human beings, that's if one believes in creation.

  • You are soooo lucky :)) i loved it. Thanx for posting

  • that's so sweet <3

  • Adorable. Love this. :)

  • nice to see that at least some people treat the animals well in America

not like the others purely to make it absolutely stupid videos on the Internet

  • when you become that close to an animal wild or not you take the responsibility to get their shots then their safe around you and all the other critters around. I know that we are suppose to let our wildlife to be wildlife ,but sometimes one needs the other as much as the other needs them, meaning the love between the both just works out perfect and they become bonded for life.

  • @lilnikki347

Yes, This coon had all her shots and she was also spade.

  • @MaddyDesr

Good on you mum! Glad to see that people do in fact care

    about our furry co-inhabitants. Cheers! = ]

  • This coon was found by my son, but I gave her to a woman who is experienced in coons. Coonie was shot though by a neighbor who saw her in the day time and thought she was rabid, but she wasn't. She just lived by day , slept at night . It was a tragedy that could of been avoided had the neighbor been contacted about her.

  • @Stanislav55

I know, it breaks my heart every time I think about it. But, I think everyone feels that a coon in the day is a sick coon, and that is just not true. A coon out in the day hasn't found enough food at night a lot of the time. /they are still searching. But, there are alot of things that people think that arent' accurate. Like squirrels, NEVER has had a documented case of rabies. But people think they carry rabies. They just simply do not carry the disease.

  • @MaddyDesr

Whatever an animal can carry he doesnt have a right to kill it.Call special patrol who do control "stray animals" and they will deal with that in a proper manners :(

  • @Stanislav55

Well, sometime they may, but alot of times, they don't . I heard of a recent young coon in the middle of the road, sick, and proper people were called, but they would not come out to help the baby coon. The coon would have to bite somebody before they would come out. Generally it's the Lay people who will take care of wildlife that is hurt. And your right, the neighbor is an idiot!

  • @MaddyDesr Wrong! THERE has been documented cases of racoons being rabid. I worked with my uncle a vet for 21 years and we saw several that were rabid. Also squirrels, fox, and too many others to name. Did you know that cows can get and carry rabies? What about psuedo rabies? Get your facts straight! THEY do carry and CAN give you rabies.

  • Small rodents (such as squirrels, rats, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, and chipmunks) and lagomorphs (such as rabbits and hares) are almost never found to be infected with rabies and have not been known to cause rabies among humans in the United States.

  • * Raccoons -- 37.2 percent of all animal cases during 2001 * Skunks -- 30.7 percent * Bats -- 17.2 percent * Foxes -- 5.9 percent * Other wild animals, including rodents and lagomorphs (e.g., rabbits and hares) -- 0.7 percent.

Outbreaks of infections in terrestrial mammals, such as raccoons, skunks, foxes, and coyotes, are found in broad geographic regions across the United States.

  • @MaddyDesr

Well, this neighbor is an idiot, how can he knew a coon was rabid? If that neighbor sees people at night time near his house he wil shot em because he thought they were thief? This is something wrong about this neighbor for sure, kill the animal becase you think something weird is retarded.

  • Do you still have your coon? Would love to chat with you.... I'm a new coon mother and have some questions!

  • Hey Maddy..great video..I'm from Down Under and we don't have raccoons down here in Australia but your video certainly made me wish that we did!! And I loved both of your pups too..I'm a cocker spaniel nut!! She certainly grew very quickly from the shots at the end of the video..all of the best..cheers..Matt. PS. Wow..I only just saw your note about Coonie's unfortunate demise a couple of seconds ago, when I was about to send this..I'm so sorry..you must miss her plenty..xo

  • The relationship between this raccoon and the German Shepherd is amazing! I love how gentle the dog is with his/her little friend. The raccoon is sooo friendly. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • what an incredible video, thank you so much for sharing the amazing animals in your life!

  • She was very special girl with loving care...Sorry for your loss & sorry she only had a short time to shine. People are so paranoid about rabies. They just need to use common sense. Rabid coons are super aggressive or look sick.

  • she is cute.. are you keeping her?

  • Whats the name of this song???

  • The first song is Rocky Racoon, by the beatles,

the second song is Living on a Prayer by Bon Jovi, his acoustic version .

  • grreat video, sweet raccoon, very nice, they can live and coexist w/us,f we just love them and not hurt them, maryw

  • i'm so sick of hearing the names bandit, meeko, smokey.

  • I agree, names like Ausupp, Kvtli, or Shaui (native american words for "raccoon") sound so much more "authentic" to me ;3

  • I had a raccoon as a pet when I was a kid. His mom was hit by a car. I bottle feed him. I had him 8 1/2 years before he died. He never became mean to me. But he did not like strangers.

  • Coonie lived for a great 1 1/2 years, she was spaded, due to her deformity of her front legs, she had all her shots, she certainly wasn't a rabid coon, and she lived a life of freedom for the most part. She had run of her property, we understood the risks, but to cage her seemed to be sad. She did end up this summer going onto a deck that was not hers, and the human in charge of that deck thought for sure she had rabies to be out in the day and he shot her. Not always the case. Think......

  • What a horrible thing for someone to do. So sad.

You did the right thing though, she never would have made it in the wild w/ her bent front legs. You gave her 1.5 years of a wonderful life she never would have had without you. God bless you :-)

  • @MaddyDesr Hi, Maddy Yes people are so ignorant to the fact that racoons feed actually "sometimes" during the day. Terribly sorry for her & the loss of her for you guys. Heart breaking. She was a sweet beautifull litle girl. So sad.

  • @MaddyDesr Wow, that was a drastic measure. That's an old wives tale that a raccoon is rabid if out during the day. They're basically nocturnal but do come out during the day sometimes. That's sad. I'm sorry for your loss.

  • @lovethe1wolves

Yeah, I wish people would take more time rather than pull out the shot gun. I would think a coon out in the day is somebody's pet, but, people that have never taken in a orphan wild animal just don't realize. And coons have such a bad reputation for rabies.

  • @lovethe1wolves Yep, agreed! I am a wildlife rehabber. Get so many calls that there is a raccoon or fox out during the day...omg! Have to explain that it is totally normal. They are looking for food people! And even if you think a raccoon has rabies, a lot of times it can be canine distemper or a virus that mimics rabies. Wish people would educate themselves on wildlife...they are way misunderstood!

  • @ashlanas You're lucky. You must enjoy your work. This afternoon we were driving down a road in a mixed residental/business area and my daughter says "there was a hawk back there in someones yard". I did a quick u-ey to see him and to make sure it was okay [my fav birds]. He had himself a catch. We watched - He waited for a bit and then clutching his rodent, took off. Very young hawk. Just beautiful.

  • @MaddyDesr should've given her a collar?

  • I was suppose to film her again this early summer, but I've not heard from the woman who cares for her yet. I am ready with camera though the minute she calls me. Coonie was spaded though , due to her deformaty with her legs. She has access to vet care though, thank goodness. We did discuss though if we've done her any favors by saving her,. She cannot climb trees, but she can climb ladders. I pray she is well.

  • Don you have any updates on your raccoon?

  • she's just like Meeko :)

  • Thanks for the video; I raised a dear, sweet, baby raccoon too, and then released her. This reminds me so much of my time with Bandit. I miss her so much, but you have to do what's best for them.

  • What a heart-warming video! Perhaps you could give me some advice, we just found an orphaned raccoon, she's about 1 & 1/2 months old, her mother was shot, her siblings were drowned. If I take her to wildlife rescue they will euthanize her. How do you know that your Coon doesn't have rabies or ringworm or anything? No vet will treat her here in Ohio..

Thanks in advance if you have any advice for us... and thanks for posting this video, it certainly brought a smile to my day :)

  • yeah. that really is beautiful. :]

  • thats beutiful

  • Really nice video..really shows how raccoons can be part of an extended family in the right circumstances..certainly not recommended but you have done really well..hope all remains well and thanks for the sharing!

  • This coon was a very young coon when she was found. There is a movie about her, called, a surprise visit. Her eyes were still closed. Her mother must have abadoned her due to her front leg deformity. She knows nothing else other than the house she lives in and the barn she goes to. She cannot climb trees . We aren't sure if this is the best for her, but, we also couldn't allow nature to allow her to die either. Racoons aren't good pets. She very well could become ugly in time.

  • How hard was it to get her used to you and the house?

  • I cannot take any credit, other than my letting her go to a woman who knew how to take care of her much better than I could of. And what a wonderful place it is, with some other great animals in her yard, she really has got a great place to be.

  • What an absolutely adorable girl she is... totally. She seems as gentle as a lamb on one hand and able to hold her ground on the other - she's a real tribute to the hard work and dedication you've shown her.

I hope she lives a good, long and happy life being who and what she is.

    :-D
