  • i personaly learn by falling at age 4 and then i started hockey at 5 and always learned the hard way now im 12 and im very good

  • watched this year ago and after several hours of practising, this shit is in my veins. thx.

  • Yh that really looked like a forward cross over didn't it -_-

  • @BeatCreator96 Gimme a break, I'm in sneakers on my kitchen floor lol.

  • thats a 4ward crossover

  • @mrgloop53 no its not

  • it's clockwise

  • it's not fair I think it's easier with hockey skates because you don't have toe pick, it gives me a lot of trouble

  • lol

  • hi dan

i have been ice skating for around 7 to 8 weeks now and am getting quite good thanks to you're video's. I can skate forward, backwards, crossovers and working on the straight line footwork. I'd just like to say thanks a bunch for the help and ill be starting xtreme ice skating as soon as i can thanks again

    Jason

  • Ayye(: thanks! This made it look alot easier than all the other videos I've seen for this! Gots to go practice(: lol

  • I skate quite a lot. and I find skating backwards is easier when you get past the little hop. The hop is easier to learn but after that you get into a rhythm of just sliding ur skates and it looks smoother and is faster

  • Been meaning to redo this video to show smooth backwards crossovers but haven't had ice.

  • Hey guys i just stated skating yesterday,

i liked it and fell down a lot.

Can any of you give some tips of skating normally

    without losing your balance?

  • bend your knees

  • If there's lessons in your rink consider going for them, with mine the lessons include free access to the rink for two months (which is a really good deal).

Alternatively ask one of the better skaters to help you, it's very unusal for a talented skater to not offer words of advice.

  • is there a easier to skate backwards for someone learning... thanx

  • huh?

  • Thank you so much for the helpful video!! =D

  • it looks like your running backwards! but rlly cool!! i'd love to skate backwards but im chicken to put my foot up

  • I don't skate backwards like this any more but I could if I wanted to :)

  • You skate like a frickin' monkey! :L

    but still awsome vid

  • Backwards skating was never my specialty. But monkeys are cool.

  • AWESOME! Helps even those skating for over 15 years! Technique is everything.

  • This is good u a great skater but wen I go to do my backwards I got it but wen I do a dime stop how do I get the ice heavier?

  • increase speed. bend knee lower to ice.

  • I can only go one way!! AHH! It's taking me forever to learn this, but it really helped!!

  • awesome!

  • Love the music, what is it?

  • @Sessyliz I want to know as well. I'm pretty sure it was in one of the Badboys movies.

  • @0uSTeR It was from the first BadBoys movie. It's the opening credits song when the camera is panning over the city and the water area.

  • @Sessyliz it sounds like its from bad boys. 1

  • hey your a great sk8er but i wanted to know how to do anti clockwise

  • Thanks for your comment. For the other direction, the same principles apply but opposite.

  • As same as clockwise but instead pushing with the right leg, push with the left leg outside.

  • its harder than it looks but im on the verge of doing a hockey stop

  • sounds funny but i can't spray the ice with my skates lol it doesn't work :P

  • it looks easy when an expert does it

i could go backwards fine doing wiggle and swizzle but somehow my right foot refused to leave the solid ice

  • You have to adjust your balance appropriately.

  • when you start out at the gliding step. Can you start off doing [backward] swizzles? Will it work the same way?

  • Backward swizzle crossovers are good. It's a great way for developing muscle.

  • hi dan! i luv ice-skating. i can go backwards well but when i'm skating fast, (forward) and i turn to skate backwards, i seem to steer too much to the left! any tips?

  • Your hips and shoulders will guide your turn, but your entrance to the turn and how much lean will determine your commitment to a particular edge. Your edge must be known before you commit to it.

  • Thanks a lot Dan! Cheers!

  • Ice skating backwards is better i think because its easier to gain speed if your doing backward crossovers..

  • i don't have the guts yet to make this move... everything inside me screams "dont do it!" :D but i guess it'll vanish within the next time.

When i started going backwards the first time, i was scared and now it feels good :)

  • I can backwards skate but its really annoying wiggling yourself side to side and it gets kinda tiring. this is really good advice and help.

    Thank you! :D

  • i tried this and i can do it pretty good turning right while going backwards, but not left as good... any advice?

  • I have the same problem. It's simply practice.

  • ive been practicing this for such a long time and i still cant get it right

  • I can do this ! xD Hehehe .... But Dime stop... i must learn that ;p

  • i can crossover with my left foot backwards pretty good but right foot isnt that good but forward skating crossovers i can do better with right foot lolz

  • this is an extremely hard thing to teach imo, just kinda gotta get out there and do it!

  • Great job i can do that to its very easy when you know how to do it:D

  • Backwards crossovers are SO much funy once you get them. It took me a while, but now they r a lot of fun 2 me!

  • I know! When im ice skating and im talking to my friends, im just doing a backwards crossover while i was talking for some reason!

  • i teach myself to skate and every1 is like "wow yr good" do you take lessons? and i say no i teach myself without any video instruction i can only skte bakwards so imn try this in a coule days

  • I know, same here!

  • really clear... cant wait till next practice because since a couple of matches im a defenceman and i know the basics but i wanna get more into it... cant wait to try the technique... thx alot!! :)

  • thnks

  • excellent!

can someone please tell me the name of the music to this please!!

  • It's an orchestra song from the original movie, "Bad Boys". Don't know the name of the song, but the movie opens with this song.

  • I always see that ppl doing backwards crossover is skating in circles.

Can u tell me if this can be used to go in a straight line backward?

  • Yes, but no sideways body lean.

  • it can, but thats not really their purpose. plus, it's a bit difficult as you must be on an edge. If you are on an edge, you are leaning, leaning and going straight just sounds uncomfortable lol.

  • if you want to go backwards straight try cutting your skates to the side in large C's. Then again this is how you skate backwards in hockey, if your looking towards figure skating i dont know what to do

  • thanks a lot that realy helped :)

  • i absoulutely love backwards crossovers i did them for 10 minutes before =] but i wus insanley sore after lol.

  • not sure about ice hockey but for figure skating it helps a lot to keep hands raised horizontally until you get the feel of the whole balance. I like the music, can you tell me what it is?

  • It's from the soundtrack, "Bad Boys", the original movie. I don't know the name but it's instrumental only, and the movie opens with this song.

  • now i can i can do crossovers

  • forward ones came more natrualy to me i learnt my self but i want to learn how to mmake it look all slick so il try to learn the back ones any other cool moves?

  • Please check out official website.

  • Check out the official website. Too many moves to list.

  • *update* whoo i can hockey stop!!!!!! thanks to ur vids

  • easier said than done

i been skating 3 years and still cant master them

  • this looks easier than forwards crossovers. am i wrong?

  • Depends on the person. Personally, I hate backwards crossovers. They never feel totally comfortable.

  • ive just learned forwards ones, im hopin to start playin ice hockey but its a hard sport n i think it will take me a while

  • Will not be doing new tutorials until Membership accounts go online and testing is underway. This will carry through until the end of the year. Personally, I don't do the snow plow but suggest learning other stops.

  • Nice Vids man.I tried that and thanks for the tutorial! it rocked,So what level are you in?

  • i appreciate what this vid teaches even though i can already do the move. my problem is that i can only do it against other peoples direction of movement at our rink. i didnt know the technique up till now i just taught myself to do it by watching others so thx for another useful vid maybe now ill learn to do it the right way round the rink

  • hey thanks dan this really helped

  • Sure thing.

  • Men That's cool I can do that too!

  • Wow, thanks a lot!

  • Thank you for requesting this tutorial. Glad I can help!

  • Haha I thank YOU! For being so kind for doing this video tutorial.

  • i can do it anti-clockwise easy and fast but just cannot do it clockwise. With forward crossovers its the opposite its so frustrating i cant do everything both ways!

  • I showed only one direction because doing both would be mundane. Just keep practicing bro.

  • Great Vid Dan...too bad i already know how to do this stuff :p...i got a vid to show u soon.

  • Looking forward to it.

  • ah thank you dan

    this helps alot

  • i'll deffo be trying this tomorrow :-)

  • Thx Dan, I'm sure i'm gonna try this this weekend.

But I tried before with some advice of my friends.

And I just can't stand backwards on my left for some seconds, but i'm gonna try it, same as the hockey stop, which i can do like a 60-70cm high spray now:)

To bad my rink closes this weekend :(

  • Are there any indoor rinks to skate at that are near you?

  • there are but as i already said, it closes today :(

    back in septembre

  • When I was in Belgium, I noticed that only 1 rink was open in the entire country all year round (maybe there are others), and that rink was in Hasselt I believe.

  • Possible, Hasselt aint that far but just to go ice skating, nty :)

As I almost know all people in the rink where I mostly go, it's much more fun. I can go to another rink aswell, this one is open for one more month i think. but that's a small rink

  • you place your foot but i slide them over each other. is that good?

  • Yes. That is good. I tried to present the easiest way to learn backwards crossovers. Try many different ways :)

  • my mate does that and he amazing at going backards

  • Thank you very much!

i've been playing hockey all my life(i even play defense where these are key) but I've never been able to master these

so this will help immensely I'm sure

You have a great day and week my friend :]
