  • You have odd taste to me. I understand trend, but I would not make Apple product funky looking. Anyway that's just me. Go on with upgrades. I have replaced memory with some cheap value Kingston for notebooks for $12. HD also twice big... and now Core Duo will get Core 2 Duo at higher clock upgrade.

It will end up as XBMC device next to TV eventually as I do not like Apple account login idea... to get to my own movies and music that I store on my own LAN. That's a weirdest idea I heard of.

  • Cool Mac mini for almost 3 yrs old and why do retards talk bout how cool pc is on a Mac user video it's like the are lookin for a argument.

  • you a funny ass nigga

  • Im still somewhat a noob with all these upgrades but I have the same mac mini model as yours. (Only difference would be the specs) Well, can I shove a 1TB hard drive and a 4gb ram into this mac mini dinosaur?

  • I have had a computer for 10years now i swapped computer a bit now and then I have an Alienware Area 51 gaming computer but i still want a mac

  • Sweet setup you got there, porsche558! I'm just modding my Mac mini a bit and found your vid while searching for servicing videos.

To all the haters: every OS sucks in some way because you always have to compromise between usability, security, complexity, stability and limited resources.

Having done coding/admin work with Linux (work/home), Mac (home) and Windows (work), I'd say that unixoid system suck less, but Windows is better than nothing at all.

    :-)

  • No room on that desk to make love to a woman.

  • @TheTrafficker85 Actually my PC wasn't so bad. This video was made over a year ago. At the time the PC I had was running a 2.0 ghz duel core AMD Athlon processor running 4 ghz of DDR 2 duel channel 800 mhz ram. The Mini was running a 2.0 ghz core 2 duo intel processor with a 4 ghz of DDR duel channel 667 mhz ram. Oh and I later upgraded the PC to a 3.4 ghz with 1600 mhz ram and the mac was faster. You really should have looked up my PC specs before you made a dumb shit comment.

  • @TheTrafficker85 PC sucks. Where the fuck have you been arrogant dipshit?

  • @TheTrafficker85 A G5 would own your gaming PC. Seriously.

  • Right now u can get 1tb of 2.5 hard drive... Maybe even more... And there's a lot of ssd... So u should upgrade it to better ones...

  • @489035002 I would go with an SSD if I didn't get a new mac. I now run a 24" iMac this video is over a year old. I do have plans to upgrade my iMac to 8 GB of DDR3 ram and a 2 TB HDD. I'd love to though an SSD in the iMac but the size I would like is way too expensive.

  • i would have kept the oringinal harddrive cause of the 7.2k rpm

  • @omgDeadbrad I was desperate for more space and at the time they weren't making 7.2k rpm drives that size, this vid is almost 3 years old now LOL! I did later put in a 7.2k rpm 500 GB HDD when they came out. If I didn't need the space so bad then I would have kept the faster drive.

  • Apple released a new firmware update a while back for 2009 era Mac minis... You can now upgrade to 8gb of ram. Also up to 750gb hd. If you're a real badass you can go solid stat

  • I did a similar mod, mine has a 500 GB hybrid drive, and 4 GB of ram. No where near as fast as my I7 desktop... but it's a mac.

  • wow its a decal thats what i call modding!!!

  • @gadgetboy1234 actually if you watched the video the mods are the ram and hard drive...I guess you could count the decal as a mod but I wasn't going there.

  • @porsche558 and you call upgrading modding?

  • @gadgetboy1234 on the mini....ya since there isn't a lot of true mods you can make to it and also since Apple only built this generation of mini with a max HDD size of 160 GB and max Ram of 2 GB. Apple also designed this generation of mini to be "non-upgradable". So by that simple logic I would be "modifying it since per Apple it can't be "upgraded". It's a play on words really, not sure why this is a huge deal to you.

  • @porsche558 I have that mac mini as-well in my car with a screen on it with a battery pack so i can go anywhere with it and i dont recal it being hard to put a 500gb hdd in.Okay, maybe a 1TB but no 500gb and also it came with 2gb of ram anyway

  • This is the GMA950 model? You got 4GB in that? I thought 2GB was the limit? I got a core dup one and put in a core 2 duo - but thought the ram would not go higher? I use it to scan my negs and xpan negs come in at 250GB and they kill the machine when trying to work with them. :-(

  • @sinoperture Apple says the limit is 2GB but they lie LOL!! You can get 4GB in it and it will use it. I am going to venture a guess and say you must be very into photography if your scanning film negatives. By xpan are you referring to the Hasselblad Xpan? It's a shame so many people these days have given up on film photography and moved to digital photography instead. There isn't a digital camera yet that can match the image quality of a film camera.

  • @porsche558 Well that was a waste of time... wrong sodimms. At least I got a lot of dust and crap out.

  • @sinoperture Well I have 2 x 2GB sodimms sitting in boxes as they didn't play nice always with my alu mac book. Going to go and get my shim and open up the mini again. Yes hassleblad xpan. if you to flickr and search for "sinoperture" you should find my stuffs. Hope the 4GB works - big difference it will make!

  • @sinoperture That should be 250MB not GB. ;-)

  • i got an idea for one of them, upgrade the graphics card, then shove the thing into a netbook shell, put the screen on it, and youve got a monster netbook

  • @burn2theground LOL! If only it weren't almost impossible to upgrade the graphics card that would be cool to have a monster netbook....but that is basically what the MacBook Air is.....it's just a really really expensive netbook. The new mini's at least come with a decent graphics card. While my mini has the Intel GMA 950 with 64 MB of v-ram, the new ones have the Nvidia G force 320 with 256 MB v-ram

  • is this a laptop or just a computer!!!?? im so confused :P

  • @facetheGrace the mac mini that you see is what it runs on and has the software but you have to have a separate monitor to display everything. so the mac mini is like the tower on a pc

  • @jfitz7177 Your cup on the car roof vid is awesome....too bad the cops got mad.

  • @porsche558 haha thanks man it was funny to see people chasing us we thought about a baby crib but thats a little far lol. but the cop came up next to us driving and he was way serious but idk if its against the law though.

  • @kuza261 Good for you man, good for you.

  • @kuza261

Does your "insporon" know anything about grammar or punctuation?

Once I learned to spell, my computer became MUCH faster..

    I'm just saying...

  • @kuza261 y must u post a damn hater comment here? hav u actually used one ? if u hate macs dun need 2 comment on some1 vid...=_=|| its rlly stupid

  • @kuza261

Fantastic for you! Congratulations to your awesome PC :)

  • @kuza261 lol...no one is forcing you to like a mac....geez...talk about nerd rage lol.

  • @kuza261 your just ticked because every one is switching to apple and theirs nothing your pc can do to compete hahahah

  • @kuza261 You have a Dell. Enough said.

  • pff only 2ghz you just paided $599 for a desktop without a monitor

  • @bestgamer2112 You must be a windows person LOL. Yes Mac's aren't cheap; this is nothing new however. With a better OS you don't need crazy fast hard core hardware.

  • lol 2ghz of ram

  • @arthcronos not sure why everyone thinks I said 2 Ghz of ram. I said 2 gigs of ram...which it actually has 4 GB

  • @porsche558

    look @ your discription ;)

"It came with 2 Ghz of ram and a Hitachi 160 GB 7200 rpm hard drive"

  • lmao 2GHz of RAM xD

  • @benneb07 huh? 2 GHz of ram and it's a 2.0 Ghz cpu.

  • 1:22 you started sounding like yoda

  • @MrJufrow LMOA!! I don't hear that at 1:22 but at about 1:34 I did.....Just need to say things backwards I do...yes. LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • I don't have it anymore actually it belongs to my neighbors now

  • you and me both

  • Looks like a lunchbox...

  • only thing missing is the handle

  • Shweeeeet!

  • You look like a Windows user with so many folders and shortcuts in your desktop. BTW, your mini looks really nice.

  • Thanks and I know....I have way too many icons and folders on the desktop. Right now I only have a few....for some reason I seem to collect them on the desktop then I get sick of looking at the mess they make so I clean them all off LOL!!

  • your pc won't suck so bad with win7. a lot of people are saying that it's as good as os x

  • Actually I have a new PC since this vid was made and I have been using Win 7 Ultimate....it's not as good as OS X. I have it on my laptop and my newish desktop. I will say that I like a lot of the features in Win 7.....but it's still not OS X.

  • Your mini will run cooler if you put it on its side.

  • I agree the mini would run cooler on it's side.

  • did the exact same with my mac. Love it. Did you use super duper! to format the hard drive???

  • Nope I didn't use super duper to format the hard drive. I used OS X's disk utility instead.

  • i upgraded the HD from 120 gigs to 320 7200 rpm... It makes a slight hum.... is it because the HD is spinning faster?

  • More than likely the noise your hearing is the faster HD, also I find some brands of HD's make more noise than others.

  • Nice video mate :-) Some nice upgrades for sure!

  • Thanks Danny, the boost in performance I gained from those upgrades made it all worth it.

  • ssd wasnt in my budget but my hitachi seems to be doing pretty well. Why did you get me started again? Dam you, just kidding.

  • place looks a mess

  • Actually there was only a minor temp rise of just 3 degrees F.

  • How does the mini handle the extra heat from a faster drive?

  • my mate put in 4gb and an SSD drive..much better

  • Thanks, just did and also put in 4 gigs and external drive for dedicated audio, you know how it is, leaving it stock will drive you crazy because you will always wonder if you could have made it faster. Lets face it we all have techno disease. I'm running Cubase I was able to record 40 simultaneous audio tracks, not sissy midi tracks, with about 17 real time cpu hungry pluggins, reverbs, delays, compressor's, filters etc. It crashed at 19 pluggins which is many times more than ill ever need.

  • Sorry the ability to give a rating is disabled. If it weren't I'd give it 4 stars. It's a good video, and you have to like someone who's come over from the dark side but not quite enough info for 5 stars.

  • dat is what u call lazy... getting tired of moving your arm around the mouse mat.

  • rofl, you could fit the mac mini in a 5 1/4 drive bay.

  • damn straight macs are better than pc's

  • Mac Mini is the smaller than my PC's power supply. >_>

  • It looks like the alien from Independence day LOL! I've upgraded my pc to a 3.2 Ghz AMD X2 64....but the mac still seems quicker. I would love to slap in an SSD but they are still expensive and have a small capacity. =^(

  • Beautiful!!! how much did all the upgrade cost? (not more than $200 surely) Great computer GO MAC

  • it was about $200....the hard drive was $109 and I forgot how much the ram was but it was a cheap upgrade and well worth it.

  • fuck , the mac min is the size of a cd drivefor a pc!

  • ya it's tiny LOL!....guess it's not the size that counts....it's how you use it? LMAO!!

  • looks kewl!

  • wow ..cool

  • The mac mini looks ok i mean if you put like a better pic on top it woud look sick

  • kind of reminds me of the starship enterprise.
