Hey, my friend insists you had to do major work to get this kind of mileage, but I think it's just a well cared for bike. What repairs and maintenance have you done over the life of the bike?
My friends all think their bikes can only last 20,000 because some suzuki owners manual says the usefull lifespan of the bike is 18,000 miles. not kidding.
@ruckuschannel I had 57,000 miles on my CBRF3 before I sold it and they weren't easy miles either I beat the crap out of that bike every time I road it. I know have a 2005 CBR 600RR. Tis the reason I'll only buy Honda, you won't see other sport bikes on the road with that kind of milage with very little shop time
Got an F4I as my first bike! it had like 40k miles but hopefully it will last forever! anyone know why there is a clocking or rattling sound everytime I turn off the engine?
Props to you brother, for putting 100K miles on one bike! Honda is the best! It's stories like this that continue to keep me sold on Honda. I have a VTX but will trade for CBR this spring....going through a mid-life crisis and feeling the need for speed, ha!
1:16 the fist pump!!! Good job man! Riding smart no doubt was the key! (and just a little luck;) Just got an '01 F4i with 3k on it, we have to store them away for the winter here, can't wait til spring though, and rack up them miles!!! Keep riding man and good luck!
Thanks dude!! Yea I def always try and ride responsibly and make it back home in one piece. Still riding her everyday that I can... did 400 miles yesterday but it's snowing today so she's prob gonna have to rest for a few days
You see my new vid I posted a few months back?? She's up over 200k miles now... 204k to be exact
Nope... most I've ever gone is -1 in the front, but I also had a speedohealer to correct the difference, which actually causes the odometer to read LESS than actual if you set the speedo dead on with a GPS (like I did)
@thirdgenlxi GPS tends to run 3 to 5 mph slower than actual speed. For you people that really on GPS for actual speed or think it's the actual speed do some research it's actually a bit slower because of the comm. lag. Same reason why it's not dead on were you stand it's actually accurate within 3 feet doesn't matter if you have 20 satellites over you or 5. Just an FYI from a USMC Intelligence officer. But there will be people who will doubt the Facts there always will be. Nice bike though
@thirdgenlxi - I think this video is awesome, why?... just bought my first bike and it just happens to be a 2004 honda CBR 600 F4i as well. Got it for $1,500 and it's got 13,800 miles on it. I've been wanting to change the oil in it before I ride it too much more. What kind of oil do you use and how difficult is it to change the oil filter? Thanks!
Believe it or not, they've only needed "adjusting" twice. They've been checked many times, and at 41k 2 valves were nearing the edge of the spec, so they were adjusted to the middle of the range. Then at 100k 5 exhaust valves were just out of spec, so those were adjusted. All been in spec ever since
wow, i have never seen soon many miles on a bike! actually, never seen so many km's on a bike where i'm from. what kind of oil do you use? or did you use, synthetic?
that's amazing! some people have told me that 15-20,000 miles is A LOT for a bike. I guess not! if your bike can go that long, then they should all go that long with the proper care.
last post was 6 months ago... so what happened to your bike? is it back on the road or what?
Yea man... I love to ride!! Absolutely love travelling and taking long roadtrips, and do so whenever I can
Anyways, sorry for the late response... had ALOT going on last couple months... new house, new job, and all the other fun stuff that goes with it, lol. As for oil, I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w-40 (used to use 15w-50 before the 10-40 came out). And yes, this is the car oil... 5 qt jug at wally world for $22
When the bike was new I broke it in using the Honda stuff (GN-1 I think it was) and ran that up until 5000 miles, then switched to the Mobil 1 and have been running that ever since, changed like clockwork every 5000 miles. It's definitely treated me well!
After my lowside, I did end up fixing the bike back up. Had to end up replacing the engine case and crankshaft, and reused all my original internals just as they were. It's still running strong as ever and ridden daily, just turned 193,000!
lowside, man, you should put up some pics or make a video of all that you did. this man found an engine and then put every single reusable part from his original back into the new/used engine and it worked perfect. I think he proved that F4i's are made to last. I will see if I can ever hit 200k on my 03 rr, doubt it though. only at 30+k now. Keep it up bud!
Hell yea Corey, she'll make it there! Just remember... a little care and maintenance will get you a loooong ways down the road!
For anyone that hasn't seen my rebuild thread, go to the 600rr (DOT) net forum, go to the maintenance subforum, and it's a sticky at the top of the page "thirdgens massive F4i rebuild". Sorry I'd post a link but it won't let me post any hyperlinks here :(
Hey I got a 2006 f4i and lowsided it a few days ago on it's left side. Broke off the gear shift pedal, and scratched the hell out of the engine case and fairings including the headlight. I don't care much about the looks as I do the engine. I ordered the parts for the clutch and mirror but I still don't feel safe riding it.
@gonzoexpress1 There were 3 hoses hanging out the left side which I hope are just gas tank breathers and also feels rough riding. Some rattling here and there. Would you know what those hoses are and the rattle? I say rough because I rode my buddy's 2006 R6 and felt WAY safer. Thanks
Hi i have a question to anyone who can answer it. Do 2001 F4i's have speed sensors? If so where can i get one cheap online? How much would it cost to replace at the stealership? Thx in advance.
Yes they do they are on the crankcase on the left hand side by the starter motor.
In the UK they cost £120 or about $150 in the US. You can fit it yourself if you like, will take about 2 hours and isnt that hard just fiddly. I did a write up of doing mine so if you need it let me know. At a dealer expect to pay around 2-3 hours labour as they take the throttle bodies etc off for easy access, you don't need to but it is easier if you do.
Awesome! I loved my 98 CBR bout it with 13k , I put on over 10k in half a year and thought that was alot, never had a problem with it until someone drove into me! Ready to buy another bike now, what to go for 2001 600 F, or a 2002 600 FS, any suggestions? I love CBR's, now I love them even more after seeing this!!
My bro had an 98 F3 which he bought at 30k miles, rode till 60k, then sold to someone else. Ive never seen so many miles on any other sportbike than a Honda
very impressive, and for a 600 none the less. Do you do a lot of high rpm riding? I just sold my zx9r today with 56,000 miles 2003 model. I sort of regret it, but I want something new...it needed some work and I love doing loing trips....regretting it until i get something new.
thats really intense, i love bikes with high mileage and still running strong, shows how well it was tooken care of, i had a 1984 honda interceptor vf500, they had cam problems when they hit around 30-35k miles, my bike was lucky enough to see 136k miles until i had the craziest idea to race it down the highway and blow a rod right through the crank case =[
Well everyone... I'm sad to report that 'the little engine that could' may have taken her last breath at 177,428 miles :-(. On Thursday morning 12-17, I was on my way to work and hit an oil/fuel spill in the road and went down, lowsided at about 30 mph. Bike slid on the left side and was fine until it hit a curb and flipped over. Stator and flywheel took a hard direct hit with the curb, cracked the engine case in multiple spots, and possibly bent the end of the crankshaft.
As of right now the engine is locked up solid. I'm gonna see what I can do though, she'll be back on the road someway somehow, whether it's a used engine or whatever. Stay tuned... she'll still see 200k even if it is on a new heart (not what I wanted, buuuut....)
Nooooo. Damn that sucks dude i feel you man. If the question came that it would be more expensive to repair the damage would you consider getting another F4i or the CBR? May your bike make a full and healthy recovery :)
Awesome dude.... I love seeing put some miles on their bikes! You're right F4i's are definitely awesome bikes.... built like freakin tanks! It just keeps going and going and going without even a hiccup. You'll be at 100k yourself here before too long! haha
i was thinking of changeing the bike but then i thought why not keep the CBR i need to change the map sensor as the bike has started using alot of fuel but their only 20 pound's on ebay so i'll just put another map sensor on it lol ! my friend all so had an f4i on which he did 64k on with out any trouble !
congrats man. I have a question though. How much money would you say you spent in repairs over the amount of timeyou had it till the 100 000 mile mark. about 1000?
Thanks!! And really not that much in repairs... not even close to $1000. Only things I had to fix outside of regular wear items were: front brake rotors (around $100), OEM CCT @ 32k ($55), clutch cable @ 65k ($18), APE manual CCT @ 100k ($50), and regulator/rectifier @ 100k ($130). The rest was just maintenance stuff (tires/brakes/chain/sprockets/etc).
Oh yea forgot I had to replace the original battery at 80k too. Since the 100k mark I've had to replace 2nd 3rd and 6th gears and a shift fork in the transmission for jumping out of 3rd gear, replace a wheel bearing, replace steering head bearings with tapered rollers, replaced the regulator/rectifier again at 156k, and now need to replace fork seals as my left one has sprung a leak. That's pretty much it though.... really not too bad for 175k miles, hahhah
your bike soudnds like shit at that many miles , did you not take care of it , or WTF ? it sounds horrible , or is that just some bs sounds effect in the background
wow it went back to 000000, i have a question . i ride a f4i and was wondering whats a normal temperature for the bike? and what temp does your fan come on ,thanks
That noise wasn't actually the bike. It does indeed sound exactly like a CCT, but that's actually just my crappy camera. The bike wasn't making any such noises at all (I did replace my CCT with an APE manual some time prior though). For whatever reason the microphone on my cam just doesn't like the sound of my bike. Sometimes it'll make a high pitch squeal, and it's not the bike, just the camera. If I plug in an external microphone it's perfectly fine
Yup still running strong as ever! It's just over 166,400 miles now - 100% original engine, no rebuilds. Still ridden daily and on long trips. Just did a cross country trip and back in early April.... done 17k miles since beginning of April
Recently did a compression test and it was damn near spot on perfect. Only thing throwing it off just a hair was the fitting I was using wasn't quite long enough so I was getting a small leak from the hose during the test. Still though there were all nearly perfect, even with that
lol, I have an 03 f4i with hardly anything done to it and I can outrun many stock 1k's... I bet you are one of those kids with a GSXR1000, torque yeah... high speed. meh.
This is more of a testament to the rider than the bike. As good as Honda's are, the reality is that most bikes can hit 100k these days with regular maintenance. What's rare however is the commitment to actually make it happen. Saw a '99 Yamaha R1 with 100k on the clock, but that took close to 15 years. What's more impressive is that this happened in a fraction of that time. Well done and congratulations
Correction to above post. The referenced R1 hit 100k in closer to 7 years, not 15. Still mighty impressive though since you typically see this type of miles on Goldwings or other touring bikes, not sports bikes. Ride safe.
Really just regular oil changes and scheduled maintenance. I switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic at 5000 miles, and have been using it since, changed every 5000 miles. Then just keep the valves adjusted properly, all fluids changed regularly including fork oil. Pretty much just take care of it and don't beat it into the ground, and it'll last you a long long time :)
Ive got 30K on mine and she still held her own very well against everything at the Dragon. Dont care about the bike comes down to rider when it matters
Yup 100% original engine.... never a problem there. Only major issue I had was a trans problem at 114k (after this vid), jumping out of 3rd gear. Had to split the cases and replace 2nd, 3rd, and 6th gears along with a shift fork, but she's all good now. Other than that, just regular maintenance (oil changes, valve check/adjustments, fork oil, all other fluid changes) and a couple little things here and there, and that's been it!
...I hope my f4i lasts that long. HONDA RELIABILITY FTW!!!! I had a quick question, other that oil changes/brake pad changes...did you do anything to help keep the bike healthy.
yea man a honda is a great bike i want a f4i bad but 100k miles! if that's not honda passion i don't know what is.. let us know what mechanical issues you've had for us noobs under 50k miles ha.
an i thought that my gs500 03 plate with 42,000 miles was bad lol good vid keep clocking up them miles just got a CBR600F3 early 99plate with 18,000 gona put some crazy mile on this 1. safe riding :0)
ive got an o5, best bike ive ever had. not quite as fast as the others, but with my power commander 3 and scorpion slip on, shes no slouch. my first bike.... the honda cbr hurricane 600 1987 model. and ive had 5 crotch rockets since then.....all hondas. red wing 4 life!!!!!
Great job on the bike! And that's a ton of riding you are doing too :)
Is the bike stock? Any tips or tricks you have on what it takes to makes these bikes last as long as yours? I've got a new 08 and would love to put 100k on it :)
Recently turned 123,000 miles and still running strong! I did have a transmission problem not too long ago (115k) and it was jumping out of 3rd gear, so I had to pull the engine, split the cases and replace 2nd, 3rd, and 6th gears along with the shift fork. She's shifting good as new now though and no other problems.... running like a champ!
What up?? NextYearCubFan from the CBRForum. I love people that are that passionate about whatever....and you obviously like to ride a little bit. Keep it goin homie and stay safe
well done matey, love my one too, just come back from 2500 miles in france in 4 days, and was happy to go for a blat the next day, all refreshed gotta love the big honda.
It's new again! Wouldn't it be cool if all the paint peeled off and there was a new paint job underneath after you surpassed 100k, dreamer of dreams...
I only had 7k miles on my 06 f4i, but then I crashed it lol. I sure miss her

Stator and flywheel took a hard direct hit with the curb, cracked the engine case in multiple spots, and possibly bent the end of the crankshaft.
thirdgenlxi 2 years ago
As of right now the engine is locked up solid. I'm gonna see what I can do though, she'll be back on the road someway somehow, whether it's a used engine or whatever. Stay tuned... she'll still see 200k even if it is on a new heart (not what I wanted, buuuut....)
thirdgenlxi 2 years ago
Yikes, that's sad to hear, hope she keeps on going.

did u use the motorcycle or automotive synthetic oil? motorcycle oil is putting a dant in my wallet =(
GuitarDude1 2 years ago
Nooooo. Damn that sucks dude i feel you man. If the question came that it would be more expensive to repair the damage would you consider getting another F4i or the CBR? May your bike make a full and healthy recovery :)

moguls914 2 years ago
congrats man. I have a question though. How much money would you say you spent in repairs over the amount of timeyou had it till the 100 000 mile mark. about 1000?
Turk435 2 years ago
The rest was just maintenance stuff (tires/brakes/chain/sprockets/etc).
thirdgenlxi 2 years ago
Oh yea forgot I had to replace the original battery at 80k too. Since the 100k mark I've had to replace 2nd 3rd and 6th gears and a shift fork in the transmission for jumping out of 3rd gear, replace a wheel bearing, replace steering head bearings with tapered rollers, replaced the regulator/rectifier again at 156k, and now need to replace fork seals as my left one has sprung a leak. That's pretty much it though.... really not too bad for 175k miles, hahhah
thirdgenlxi 2 years ago
thanks for letting me know...

awesome congrats again! Every time I watch this it's better then the last time :)

ron.............
ronaldsmusicfactory 2 years ago
Absolutely true!!
If I plug in an external microphone it's perfectly fine
thirdgenlxi 2 years ago
Yup still running strong as ever! It's just over 166,400 miles now - 100% original engine, no rebuilds. Still ridden daily and on long trips. Just did a cross country trip and back in early April.... done 17k miles since beginning of April
thirdgenlxi 2 years ago

If you have a chance check the compression that is usually a give away that the engine has a lot of wear
otoole420 2 years ago 2
Recently did a compression test and it was damn near spot on perfect. Only thing throwing it off just a hair was the fitting I was using wasn't quite long enough so I was getting a small leak from the hose during the test. Still though there were all nearly perfect, even with that

AIpha0mega 3 years ago
This is more of a testament to the rider than the bike. As good as Honda's are, the reality is that most bikes can hit 100k these days with regular maintenance. What's rare however is the commitment to actually make it happen. Saw a '99 Yamaha R1 with 100k on the clock, but that took close to 15 years. What's more impressive is that this happened in a fraction of that time. Well done and congratulations
marksamuelcohen 3 years ago
Correction to above post. The referenced R1 hit 100k in closer to 7 years, not 15. Still mighty impressive though since you typically see this type of miles on Goldwings or other touring bikes, not sports bikes. Ride safe.

holy crap man...i just turned 39000 on my cbr 929rr and thought that was high...great job man...thats taking care of your shit

I just bought an 04 f4i. How have you maintained this bike to last this long?
bartmane 3 years ago
Really just regular oil changes and scheduled maintenance. I switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic at 5000 miles, and have been using it since, changed every 5000 miles. Then just keep the valves adjusted properly, all fluids changed regularly including fork oil. Pretty much just take care of it and don't beat it into the ground, and it'll last you a long long time :)
thirdgenlxi 3 years ago
Thats amazing, great job! and i was worried about having 15,000 on my bike,lol...
lilloo31 2 years ago
Ive got 30K on mine and she still held her own very well against everything at the Dragon. Dont care about the bike comes down to rider when it matters
shieldsm 2 years ago
what kind of maintenance have you done to this? is it the original engine? thats awesome!
Balkan890 3 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
Yup 100% original engine.... never a problem there. Only major issue I had was a trans problem at 114k (after this vid), jumping out of 3rd gear. Had to split the cases and replace 2nd, 3rd, and 6th gears along with a shift fork, but she's all good now. Other than that, just regular maintenance (oil changes, valve check/adjustments, fork oil, all other fluid changes) and a couple little things here and there, and that's been it!
thirdgenlxi 3 years ago
thats sick haha, now ucna sell it nad just tell people its got no miles on it at all lol
steacy91 3 years ago
...I hope my f4i lasts that long. HONDA RELIABILITY FTW!!!! I had a quick question, other that oil changes/brake pad changes...did you do anything to help keep the bike healthy.

kennyb010 3 years ago
Recently turned 123,000 miles and still running strong! I did have a transmission problem not too long ago (115k) and it was jumping out of 3rd gear, so I had to pull the engine, split the cases and replace 2nd, 3rd, and 6th gears along with the shift fork. She's shifting good as new now though and no other problems.... running like a champ!
