wtf happened to the live music videos of slave with Steve Arrington, Buddy Hankerson et al. filmed on a stage wearing matching red outfits. There used to be at least 4 vids posted ????????
@iiiiixxxx Steve ARRINGTON just played Chgo w/ his New Band. It was Incredible. He sounded Great! Can't wait to see them again. House of Blues, Chgo. 4/9/2011
When Steve made the religious conversion and abandoned secular music in the mid-80s I thought for sure he'd never sing a Slave song again. But I'm glad to hear that he has worked it out within himself and is back. Man, he could do things with his voice that no one else could. The range. The unique delivery. The way he closed out "Watching You" is simply unforgettable. He really put the finishing stamp on the Slave sound. Who could forget those roaring bass licks? Glad to know Steve is back.
@zzzddd7 Please I beg of him to come thru Boston. I love him from way back. The long version of 'Snapshot', is just too much. I still play 'Stellar Funk' and all the rest. He's the man!!!
No, this is not the original lineup. I think the only original band member in this version of Slave is Mark, Drac, Hicks, the lead guitar player. Steve Arrington, Stevie Washington (the Fearless Leader), Floyd Miller, Mark Adams (the greatest bass player in the world!), and Danny Webster are NOT a part of this group here. I applaud Drac for keeping the music alive, but the original group needs to get back together and do the damn thing for real! Sorry I missed Steve Arrington in NYC.
Steve was awsome @ the Park Central Hotel in NYC 11-13,. I told him my grandma would put me on punishment for playing Slave so loud and he was so humble!!!
For more clarification, check the clips here that feature his CD from last year "Pure Thang". You'll see that this guy sounds & looks nothing like Steve. As far as Steve being upset with anyone, Slave was a long time ago & Steve had left all of that behind back in 1982. Steve's a preacher, is back recording & is doing Steve. He'll be here in N.Y. next month, I'll ask him what his disposition is about all of this. With that said, I miss Slave circa 1979-83, they were my favorites!
@Mr. Nathan. Who told you that that was Steve? That is NOT Steve. For one thing, Steve still sounds the same. There's no way to confuse this guy's vocals with Steve's. Secondly, Steve DOES NOT perform with any Slave aggregation. If you need confirmation of that, pick up the issue of Marc Taylor's "A Touch Of Classic Soul" magazine, that featured an interview with Steve. Trust me, if you saw a line-up billing themselves as Slave, rest assured that Steve was no part of that.
@DatSoulBoss i stand corrected. i thought it was ,but man it's been so long and until i saw this you tube video,i really had forgotten about this band. thanks.
i don't know about the rest of the band, but the lead singer is steve arrington. this was as very cool and hip song back in high school, but with the horns it's been watered down alot. the funky edge that's on the original isn't there. anyway it's good to see them performing though.
@jpsmart59 yes he is steve arrington, but the music is as funky as the original.and i don't think this is the orignal bass player either, because that guy was real funky playing these bass lines.
These guys were tearing it up last month, sharing the stage with Morris Day, Lakeside, Bar Kays and Klymaxx at San Manuel. I got more than my moneys worth.
Drac is the only oringinal Slave member on this video... Mark Adams has his version of slave touring, now thats who you should see.... Mark Adams still has it, and the music is alot better than this mess..... This is drac version of slave....
@Shnegeler , I'm friends with a couple members, and actually talked to steve once and it was early last year before his new cd came out. Steve is doing pretty good, and is out touring on his own, and i seriously doubt he would ever tour with slave again. Drac is pretty much the only original member touring, and he has diffrent off brand people touring as slave. At one time there were 3 groups touring as slave. Which u will get alot of this with these old groups.
@mitzlerdub Steve is singing some OLD SLAVE hits. Where r u getting your information?. I know my info is more current and accurate than yours. and THE NEW STUFF. WHAT band members do you know?
@zzzddd7 Did you read my last quote, i talked to him before his latest CD came out, he is on my page.. He was focusing on his material new, and old...But by popular demand, maybe he decided to sang some old Slave songs.....I'm not on here to debate...
I know people cant live forever but to me it totally changes the identity of a group when you lose the lead singer for whatever reason. You can replace a band member but NEVER the lead singer.Just as Earth,Wind & Fire without Maurice White. Its just not the same.
No. Stevie and Keith (Sweat) voices is unique and discrete; necessary for the type of music they were doing. Remember we all are diversified with uniqueness from our maker. Enjoy the beauty of different tanlet.God bless
