  • Wowness

  • he´s drifting through the song

  • you just shot a load on my brain bits

  • hijo de puta

  • Who can negatively rate this. DO YOU NOT HAVE EARS?

  • Snowy plain... fast moving... something? Wolf? Wind maybe?

But yeah... definitely a snowy plain.

  • very good and very inspirational.

  • Thomas Leeb is awesome.

  • Thomas Leeb is awesome.

  • Wow it must be a beautiful feeling to play that song as good as him...

  • @comincoachny9 fishman rare earth i think, with some kind of microphone in his guitar. when i saw him live he had 2 preamps-one for the mic and one for the pickup. cant remember what make they were though-might have been lrbaggs para di

  • Man, Mr. Leeb, you are amazing. I dig this and Desert Pirate especially, very otherworldly sound and heartfelt.

  • You are the man

  • P.S. 3 people need to be kicked in the face by chuck norris

  • класно грає

  • what do you have on the bottom of your guitar that you're scratching? o.O how do you get one/make a home-made one?

  • it needs one more guitar

  • Absolute greatness

  • dude what brand of guitars do you use? =D

  • @heavymetalguitarer Its Lowden

  • amazing:)

  • so i was cruising through the andy mckee playlist, and came across this thomas leeb bloke. after listening to his song desert pirate i relized... i stumbled upon a footprint of a god...

  • The main riff reminds me of Circle by Slipknot. Except not rubbish ;-)

  • Thattttttttt is a groove.

  • oh man, i've only just found you!

and how sorry i am that i missed out that long :)

you're playing is great, just great!

  • Was it trips at 1:35 in the transition? Nice playing trying to realize if I saw the entirety of that passage.

  • that's totally excellent

  • masterpiece.

  • i love it.. i cant stop watching your videos

  • I've been to a number of Thomas Leeb play sets when hes been in my part of the world. Wonderful, inspiring and a true master of his craft

  • his bass lines are more technical than can probably be audit-ably credible

  • wow!! each one of these videos I watch is better than the last. Your playing style reminds me a lot of Don Ross

  • Anyone Got Tabs

  • I do - available at thomasleeb com

  • Just because you don't like the song, doesn't mean it's bad. It's a rhythmically challenging piece and it's very unique.

And just because something is in a different genre, doesn't automatically make it more/less difficult. Music is as hard as you make it; there are some technically demanding jazz songs, and there are some technically simply ones - which is the same with just about any style of music.

If it is so technically easy, why don't you learn it and post a video of it on youtube.

  • Yes I do. This is fairly technical music. That stupid ass techno song was not. And I'd say this is more technical than "almost any jazz song" (though I agree technical jazz is pretty much the most complicated shit ever)

  • first off you have asshole in your name so I can't even insult you there. second, this is 10x more technical than the stupid techno keyboard video you favorited

  • Are you honestly saying that music is mediocre if it's not hard? Also, you have no understanding of melody, or really music in general.

This man can tell stories with music.

  • Thomas-

This song is soooooo fresh dude!!!! Definately buying your CD hope to see you in the midwest soon! keep on rocking man. P.S. your guitar is orgasmic.

  • @GuitarAddict420 wewt came back to watch this video and realized that i had the highest rated comment! lol what a surprise! this song still gives me goosebumps

  • Ah, i see "assholebjorn" is really living up to his name ;)

  • And i guess you cant decide whats good or bad music either....

  • You really are an asshole.... assholebjorn. You can't decide what music is good or not, if you think this is simple, turn on the radio... now thats simple music. Anyway, i guess you haven't studied music history. It's impossible to discuss what the definition "music" means, and what it will express. People have discussed and fought over this for centuris, and im 100% sure that you're lousy intellect will NOT lead this discussion to an agreement. ......

  • could u do this?

    i think not?!

  • Two words for you, man: CandyRat. Records. You are so up their alley!

  • he played at my school

    in northern ireland :O

  • you are my hero

  • This dude played at my school. He was amazing. You're a great inspiration to me.

  • different class thomas!!!! newton faulkner can only wish he was that good!!!

  • hows he doing that scratching noise? some kinda scratch pad? awsome playing btw :)

  • I am loving your unique style of playing!!!

  • I'm planning on (attempting to play) playing this at a concert at school that i'm arranging, but i need to turn my acoustic into an electro acoustic... can anyone help?? i don't really want to have to buy a whole new guitar, but magnetic pickups wont pickup the tapping/scratching etc... or will they?! i dont know. is there anywhere where i can get it turned into an electro-acoustic guitar? help's appreciated, i know nothin about pickups...

  • Recently fitted a k & k pickup to my daughters taylor. it's just 3 tiny microphones which are superglued underneath the bridge, terminating in the jack plug. this will make your guitar sound much more like its intended to, than any semi acoustic guitar can. Piezo pickups built in give a very artificial sound, Andy Mckee uses the k and k system, hope this helps

  • Try LR Baggs - M1-Active accoustic guitar pickups. Iv found them better in every way than any other pickup iv tried.

  • hes still no newton faulkner

  • This is a good one! I'll make sure to remember to let Newton know you said that.

  • That's pretty awesome that you guys are tight. Did you meet through being tutored by Eric Roche?

  • see you in the blackwood miners institute in november.

  • Comment removed

  • to clarify - somebody initially commented 'good but he's no Newton Faulkner' to which I posted my amused response above. That guys original comment is now marked as spam and now it looks like I'm subscribing to the 'Leeb's much better than Faulkner' school of thought of other people's posts.

What is this, the Olympics? I respect Newton, he respects me and that should be all that matters. To compare us is completely idiotic.

  • Amen, Dunno if you'd look as good with dreadlocks :P

  • Jeez, first all the posters are trolling up on me and then chickening out. Show some backbone, people!

And yeah, he'd still look better than me if he was playing an Ovation with a shaved head.

  • You look like a metalhead playing acoustic, it works bud.

Btw played my first open mic night last night. A cover of Akaskero went down a treat :P

  • thanks for learning that one - I think I'll play that on the baritone on the upcoming tour (UK, Ireland and Germany)

  • I do it a tad different, extra bits here & there & I just use DADGAD (makes a few of the F# pull offs a tad different, but not entirely noticable :P).

Yeh I've noticed alot of your songs are getting lower & lower. Sounding great though :)

  • Oh & strangely enough I had to play an Ovation last night (it was the closest one in standard & I was invited to do backing for a song).

It had a fluffy strap too, bad times!

  • soz for the comment earlier-i was a biut cheesed that they wear ganging up on newton :P

(trying!) to learn grooveyard for my next school concert-might be coming to your workshop in leicster-its gonna be the musical highlight of my year! :-D

  • him and eric roche are one of a kind

  • Hey Thomas, I got 2 questions for you.

1: Don't you get annoyed by all the questions?!

2: Can you read Music? Like Crotchets etc?

  • wow this is amazing! What kind of pickup system is in that amazing sounding Lowden! I can only imagine how awesome this sounds live!!!

  • he didn't call me a nerd he called other people a nerd cuz of him missing notes and they said he sucked

  • What is that thing on his guitar that he stratches? Looks like sand paper or something.

  • Comment removed

  • Thomas - the things you do on acoustic really aren't legal mate.

    Keep flying the flag.

And maybe throw a couple of tips out about what your scratchboard is made from & attached with? :P

  • lmao @ not legal..yea he tears that guitar up !

  • Vicious.

  • bro your awesome..wish i have a talent like yourss..im already 24 yrs old and i started playing only now..god bless to all guitar players

  • Hahaha, killer reply!!

BTW, very impressive piece, the intro with harmonics, melody and percussion is sick!

  • I always miss a few on purpose just so that nerds, geeks and otakus have something to complain about :-)

  • hahahaha

  • i didn't even notice any mistake at all :P

  • he screwed it up ONCE, towards the beginning

  • that must have hurt haha, tom leeb calling you a nerd, no worries man, i only discovered tom a week ago, but he just amazes me, it like opened up new possibilities too me completely!

  • very nice. ( =

  • How does he get the scratching sound? Glueing sandpaper to the guitar?

  • I think it's a scratchboard.... not sure...

  • where could i buy one? or is it possible to construct one myself?

  • I'm really not too sure, but I think it's made of some type of clay. I really don't have a lot of info about this. Sorry.

  • Hey man if you have a look at my friends channel Haggis1990 he does alot of really good covers of thomas leebs stuff. I think he just tapes a bit normal plastic to the gui. Anyway hope that helps

  • But you should be able to get the same sound if you use any sanded down block of wood, as long as you have a decent growth of nail.

  • just get some sandpaper, cut a small square and use light double sided tape. You dont want to use the heavy duty tape or else it will damage the finish when you remove it, or use those plastic cards that have the rough surface, those hologram ones.

  • I don't have anything special on my guitars and i can make that sound so just try scrating your guitar, but not too hard you'll ruin it.

  • it depends to the wood

  • I use a combo of notepad cover - with a plastic mottled texture and some humble pedalboard velcro. This gives me 2 different sounds! Good luck with the experiments!!

  • by scratching the guitar with his fingers n because its an electric acoustic it would amplify the sound

  • w000000000000000000000000t 0.o

  • wow, this man is amazing!

  • awsome! what guitar is he playing?????? i want one.. or does anyone know any guitars that are good for this kind of playing. do u put pickups inside the guitar for the tapping i guess????

  • I would say rainsongs but they are wayyy overpriced for a guitar that doesn't improve with age. However they sound pretty awesome plugged in or not and are practically indestructible since they're made of carbon fiber.

  • You can see his pickup in the hole. Honestly there is a huge variety of guitars that work great for this style of playing. If you're interested go in to a local music shop and try out some of the tapping they're doing. You can do the techniques on any guitar and still hear them so work on them with what you have, then buy a new guitar for it once you're better and can choose what fits your style.

  • It's a Lowden. They're made by the legend George Lowden in Northern Ireland. Starting price is £2,500.

  • WOW!!!!

  • unfassbar schön.. musik ist das schönste was es gibt und thomas rulez earth

impressing rythm and play.. love it

  • great rhythm

  • Hey Thomas, Have you ever or ever thought about singing while doing some of this stuff at the same time? It would be immense if you did.

By the way i really liked this :D

  • He sing with his guitar

  • sick ass shit

  • So many sounds! truely great. keep up the impressive work.

  • hey great video :D

i love your combination of everything that is cool on acoustic: slap percussion harmonic and finger style!

really good style nice too watch and really cool too listen.

thanks you for this piece :)

  • This guy has a genetic predisposition to guitar playing - MY GOD!

    So impressed. Awesome stuff!

  • Hey' Thomas :)

Witch guitar have you ? :)

  • New F Cutaway (Lowden)

    Look at the Lowden website

  • Hey Leeb I haven't heard from you in a while, any new vids coming soon? :)

  • Great job Thomas. I loved the closure to the song.

  • dude! how many hours du you practice?

  • he is undisputively a musical genius.

  • I wouldn't go as far as using the G-word but thanks!

  • I believe it applies; you're welcome. :]

  • he came to my tech today in bangor northern ireland, was absolutely amazing

  • what guitar is that, sounds the fucking nuts

  • Lowden

  • Can someone shut my mouth? My jaw just dropped while I was watching this and I can't seem to close it.

    Amazing composition

  • God I never get bored of all these amazing guitarists, I love this song!

Erik Mongrain, Andy Mckee, Don Ross, Thomas Leeb, I love you all for your music, you are AMAZING inspirations

  • You forgot Antoine Dufour

  • Ah yeah, i forgot about Antoine Dufour.

Amazing. There are a few others i can pull out but i cant recall their names.

  • Like I mentioned earlier: check out Jon Gomm!!!

Also take a look at my Favorites and Playlists, tell me what you think....

    Enjoy!!!

  • You should definitely recall the father of all these players, the late Michael Hedges. He was the first to really start off this trend in acoustic guitar playing, adding percussive elements, using a lot of alternate tunings, making the guitar sound like several intruments and making up new techniques etc... All the good stuff :D

  • SIICCCKKK

  • I've never heard of such an interesting tuning. Sounds amazing.

  • I wonder if I could apply this to Ukulele.

  • haha that made me lol. idk why :) im sure you could apply it to ukulele, and to be honest im sure if you search hard enough someone already has.

  • LOVIN' THE VIBE!

  • This is an amazing piece! Love it!!!!

If you like this and you like Newton Faulkner, you should take a look at Jon Gomm! Prepare to be blown away!!

  • Jon is brilliant! I'm playing in Leeds with him this November.

  • yeah he said before in an interview that he was taught by eric roche, and so was newton faulkner who is also very good

  • I bought the "Desert Pirate" album he made on iTunes... seriously impressive there should be more people in the UK saying how amazing he is!

  • That groove he gets going when he first starts hitting those harmonics is WAY too bad-ass.

  • Amazing song, well-executed and passionate.

  • whoa. very cool.

  • OWNAGE i want to be like him when i grow up thats such a sweet ass sound. BAD ASS!

  • Wow...sounded like the whole acoustic band is backing him.....you're an inspiration...

  • OH MAH GAD.

Dude D: are you coming to portugal? PLACKS

    BRAVO!

  • my gosh, this guy is untabbable! one more to add to add my candyrat playlast, straight 5 stars.

  • Nope, not at all untabbable. I myself will work on it once I'm done with my Justin King tabs.

  • He's already got a tab e-book out though. Rather tricky tune.

  • indeed!

  • excellent!

  • You can see where Newton Faulkner got a lot of his inspiration from, this guy and Eric Roche

    Amazing

  • Awesome! 5*****
