  • Remember as a child Willie visiting our house at home & my Mother asking him to play the Tin Whistle...which he duly obliged. Ní fheicimíd a leithéid ann arís.

  • @clarebannerman Thanks for the note Mike. Tá an ceart agat . I remember being told a story about a piping instructor at Edinburgh Castle who , in a moment of sombre reflection announced "Och Och, all the great pipers are dead "" then added "and to tell the truth I'm not feeling that well myself!"

  • Eh, thanks to uistman, maybe some improvement, with his posts! Love this! Many thanks!

  • A friend told me that a lot of the youngsters who come for lessons (even those who have been at it a few years) have never heard of Clancey or Rowsome or the other old players. It seems unbelievable, but he swears it's true. What's the world coming to?

  • What's the world coming to ? - that's a good question. I can quite believe that youngsters haven't heard of Willie Clancy and Leo Rowsome, there are plenty in Scotland who haven't heard of the great pipers of days gone by - but they probably know of some of the more modern players. Maybe they're going along withe Henry Ford adage "history is bunk" He was wrong though! Thanks for the note :-)

  • @UISTMAN59 i think the ford quote is taken out of context, but the point is well made. It is a shame that they aren't as well known. I recently discovered them myself. As for the quote it refers to history being written by the conquerors, the rich and powerful 'elite'... and in such case he is right on. history is a far cry from what really took place if you do some real digging ( as evidenced by some of the videos on my page) anyway i recently ordered a set to start learning - by S. Gallagher

  • Glorious music. Remember Willie visiting our house as a child & playing the tin whistle in the kitchen.

  • Mile maith agat. "Maidir le ceol na tire tá Contae an Chláir molta dá mbeinn im thost agus a fhearacht sin aig Willie Clancy, an piobaire as Sraid na Cathrach,

beannacht Dé lena anam. Mura raibh an teanga air a thoil aige bhí blas na Gaeilge air a chuid ceol." Im mbliana beidh Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy ar siúl i Sráid na Cathrach, Contae an Chláir idir an 6-14 Iúil.

  • Haunting pipe music , very nice

  • Thanks for listening and adding a note WIlliam :-)
