Matthew 6:9-13 Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (The Lord’s Prayer)
I am afraid you are mistaken my friend. Read "Wheels on Fire" by Levon Helm.
It explains how they would let Robbie sing with his micropone turned down low so he could not be heard. But the voices on this video are definitely Rick, Levon, and Richard. If you do not know that then you need to listen to the Band a bit more so you can indentify each singer's voice correctly. Robbie is NOT audible in this video.
@z1mtschnecker1ch: well, he did sing from time to time. He sang along to "Slippin and Slidin" and "Ain't No More Cane" and another song from time to time. You can actually hear him ad-lib "alright" during the Festival's Express "Slippin and Slidin". It's on YouTube too!
Imagine drumming and singing all at the same time. Both arms, both legs, remembering lyrics and melody all the while keeping the rhythm and tempo for the band....... awesome!
Levon is one of a kind. Drums the way it ought to be done , not trying to bust the heads off of them.. Got to hand it to anybody who can sing and play drums at the same time, like playing lead guitar and singing. Increadable!!
@kukaburr Yes indeed. Really like his drumming style. The Band were SO talented. I love authentic North American music. The Band epitomises that. The Brits could never replicate this.
@scottyb43 You are correct sir, they never bothered to plug his microphone in during any of the shows but he always mimes it. The harmonies here are Richard, Levon, and Rick and always were. Robbie just liked making himself seem important or something I guess, and when you can't see Richard (he's always hiding) I guess somebody in the audience would think Robbie was actually singing..
But what is so bad about him not singing? Garth didn't sing either and is still considered one of the most amazing musicians. Different people have different strenghts - Robbie wrote a majority of the songs, afterall, and he is talented on the guitar. And why shouldn't he sing along on stage (even if his mike wasn't plugged in, which I take with a grain of salt), the songs are freaking amazing!
It's from 1969.

Honestly I don't think Robbie is that terrible a singer, check out them doing The Weight at Woodstock. Harmonies are great.
Oh, and this is from Pittsburgh 1970.
