  • dick.

  • Is the husband suppose to be playing the part of a hunchback or what??

  • his wife is much prettier !!!!!!!!!!!

  • the cinematography is amazing for its time!

  • 1 YouTuber is a cynical, xenophobic Woman of the City

  • LOL! I bet the wife was like, omg...my husband's crazy, rowing the boat like some psycho. Oh, and look! All the animals are running away. Greeeaattt :P

  • That's my favorite movie baby ever!! So stinking precious!! :)

  • George O'Brien's back acting is so phenomenal, I actually wish people acted with their backs more, a lot of people over use their hands and their faces, and forget simple things like posture... it's a surprisingly emotive part of the anatomy...

  • that with the dog was genius...

  • Well, they say actors should never work with children and animals, but both are really good in this...

Is this the first example of 'doggie-dar' in cinema history?

  • This film is incredible. The sequence on the boat is so powerful it's amazing. This wasn't the first silent film I ever saw, nor is it the last, but I still am in awe of how powerfully conveyed and expressed the emotions are through pure images moreso than music and dialogue.

  • This scene reminds me of 'Snow White' when the hunter is about to kill her, but then stops. The Wife's facial expression matches Snow White's exactly xD

  • I wouldn't be too surprised if Disney was inspired by that scene, salty. Murnau's "Faust" was the major inspiration for the Bald Mountain scene "Fantasia".

  • The Sight and Sound Poll 2002 taken every ten years where all the world's greatest film critics and directors each make a list of their top ten movies and then all the most repeated ones are put on a list. You can search on Yahoo.

  • Actually the film is pretty highly rated. It's considered one of the 10 best movies ever made. Doesn't get much higher rated than that!

  • By who?

  • most underrated film ever made most enthralling and thrilling also! :)

  • this makes me so angry! lol i hate the husband!!!

  • it's the power of the pussy

  • but the wife has one too. why isn't it powerful?

  • not as fresh

  • johnmair, that was such a crude answer...but it was so funny !

  • WOW!!!! What a powerful and affecting scene! It's amazing that something could still be so potent after all these years. Murnau is a masterful director. The way the husband transforms into a dark brute when he rises in the boat while the wife remains a white light of virtue. The characters are alive! The actors are brilliant and the director is a genius. Thanks so much for posting this!

  • I absolutely love this film. Thank you so much for posting it. Ms. Gaynor's acting in this particular piece - especially when she's waiting for him to return after bringing the dog back, is incredible.

  • Ms. Gaynor won an oscar for this film :)

  • Up to tears...

  • Redeeming Light, I'm curious, since you're

a Chaplin fan. Did you like City Lights?

The mood - tempo- milieu, whatever you want

to call it, is similiar to this.

  • You suck.

  • blow it out your ass

  • Haha, I totally agree!!

  • Haha, I totally agree!!

  • thanks for the upload!

  • Dogs always seem to know when humans are up to no good.
