This is a somewhat confusing video. Transgendered is an umbrella term describing many different types of cross-gender expression. Transsexualism is a birth condition wherein the person is born with the brain of one gender, and the body of the other gender. A transsexual woman has a female brain and a male body. She was, is and always will be a woman. The process of transition hormonally and surgically transforms the body as much as possible to match the female brain. Hope this helps.

Hun, I don't have to look it up. I've got a degree in psychology, and I'm a transsexual woman. Transsexualism is a MEDICAL condition. It's not mental, or sexual. The term can be confusing because it incorporates the word 'sex', but that's only because it was coined at a time when the difference between sex and gender was not well understood. We know now that transsexualism is a result of an aberrant hormone wash on the fetal brain around 6-8 weeks, and possibly due to androgen insensitivity.

There are dozens of respected websites that support both the definition and the etiology I've described. In fact, the American Medical Association issued resolution 122 (A-08) recognizing transsexualism as a medical condition. Sex is between the legs, gender is between the ears. A person can be transsexual, and experience gender dysphoria without feeling any sexual urges at all. I applaud you for educating people with your videos, but it is important to present the information factually. :)

@Erica2Lives i should've read this before i replied to the previous one! thanks for expanding on the definition... so what is the direct effect that this hormone or androgen has on the person?

@Erica2Lives is there such thing as a "male" or "female" brain? i will be doing my own research on this, but can you expand on that? i am very critical about gender roles so the idea that females behave one way and males behave another way to me is socially constructed and learned, not determined by biology.
